And a 3rd review!  Which I did first, and then wrote the other two (no spoilers and spoilers) while the video processed.  And I did it in one take (oooo!), because there was no way I was putting my hair back up again.

After basically everyone commented on my 3 test reviews saying I needed to include a video of myself, I went ahead and did it this time.  A very very tiny video of myself in the corner.  And I also went heavy on the powerpoint, because that way I can include written words, my favorite thing.

    • Well, he’s only sexy if you fall in the “he doesn’t get older, he just gets better” camp. Leans heavy on the scraggly beard, sad eyes, bitter mouth kind of sexy.

      Oh, and shirts so tight it looks like the buttons are going to pop off. Bless you, costume director!

      • The screening I attended — 11:30 AM on a workday — had about 30 people on the audience, all women except for one guy who was there with a sister or girlfriend. For Baahubali 2 (same show, same theater), I was there all alone, and for other Indian films there are usually fewer than 5 people in the audience. There was a lot of laughter, audible moaning (the good kind) during the sexiest scenes, and the queue in the ladies’ room afterwards was happy and chatty. (This is a multiplex in northern Virginia, very close to Washington, DC.)

        • This is definitely a movie where I will be watching the per screen closely. And also the number of screens. It seems like if they focused on just the adult female segment of the audience, the per screens should be pretty decent. But if they did a really wide release like you would for an all ages movie, it could be embarrassing.

  4. I pretty much learned to take social media “reviews” with a huge grain of salt. So many haters out there; probably also liars who did not see the movie. I am willing to bet that some of these are trying to get revenge for Tubelight.

      • Good point. But then there are the ones that begin with “this is the worst film in Indian film history”, which indicates they have seen even fewer films than I have. Most of the really negative reviews I have read have seemed shallow, mean-spirited, or both, and I just don’t get it. It’s not a terrible film. I am actually going to see it again tomorrow.

        • I guess those really bad reviews are from regular SRK fans that have been watching the same SRK film for 20 years and are just tired of it. Plus he’s pretty much the same everywhere- in interviews, in promotions, in launches, in ads on TV, in award shows that he hosts, in comedy shows he appears on as a guest. and he IS everywhere. He’s overexposed.

          People are tired of SRK being SRK everywhere and all the time and when he does that in a film, they feel cheated. Because the SRK film is again overpriced because of his name than the other similar small-budget film. Do not let the reviews influence your fandom though. The rules of the real world don’t apply to fandoms. I recently did the entire Prabhas marathon because i’m in that fandom now. And I did sit through some really bad films there! LOL

          • Now you are making me think that lot of might be, for those of us in America without satellite TV, we are kind of insulated from the SRK-dom. We only see him in movies, not in ads or interviews (unless we hunt them down). And we only see his old movies if we track them down on DVD, not constantly streaming on TV. So if I watch something like Jab Harry Met Sejal, it’s the first time I’ve seen him onscreen in 3 months (since I re-watched Dilwale with a friend). Well, plus my weekly DDLJ posts. But it’s all a very different experience than someone who is waiting for a totally new and different Shahrukh than the one they have been putting up with all day every day everywhere.

            The funny thing is, it’s all those ads and public appearances that are probably paying him enough that he can do these really odd non-commercial films, which then fail even more because everyone is sick of him and feels he is over-exposed from all the ads and public appearances! Might be time to take a page from Aamir’s book and make himself less available so his real film work can stand on its own. Well, and also insist on regular ticket prices and smaller releases, so we know it’s going to be a funny little romance movie, not GREATEST MOVIE OF THE YEAR. So, do an Akshay.

          • It’s not so much SRK overkill as it is SRK being just one version of himself overkill.

            Like Amitabh at this age, he’s sort of gotten stuck in this one image. But after the experimental phase (cheeni kam, nishabd, etc) Amitabh has really found his niche. And ironically the niche is that he’s THE Amitabh Bachchan. His recent films and voice acting stints have him as him and he’s not trying to be someone else at all. In Bhootnath, Shamitabh (which I loved), piku, wazir, ki and ka, pink, in all these he’s never really broken out of the Amitabh persona but at this point we’re so used to his versatility that it doesn’t seem forced or put on. And what does it say about this legend that of his recent films, people like me, who are constantly torn between watching a film in the theatre or working through the weekend to have a less stress start to the next work week, have seen almost all of his recent releases. Amitabh has almost gone beyond the point of having expectations on him. If amitabh is in it, the film will be worth watching in the theatre. That’s the standard. You can always watch an Amitabh film. ALWAYS. his name is a guarantee of quality.

            I guess what works for him and what doesn’t for the khans plus the others is that they’re mostly working with home productions so the pressure of their home banner getting a massive hit perhaps pushed them to stick to what’s worked for them before. Amitabh though, works purely on a story basis. He’s done that his entire career. He doesn’t shy away from cameos, he isn’t into the BO numbers game. He’s the baap of them all and he doesn’t need to prove anything to anyone.

            SRK is somewhat close to this model story wise. He only needs to diversify his portfolio, do lots of cameos and favor films and make multiple smaller budget films each year. He needs to take himself out of the rat race. Amir has.

          • Agree totally about the Amitabh-Shahrukh discussion. More Dear Zindagis, that’s what he should be doing.

            Disagree slightly with Aamir. He doesn’t do as many films, but they are all BIG BIG films when he does them. Like Thugs of Hindostan coming up. I want him to go back and make more Talaash films, interesting smaller films. No more Rajkumar Hirani or Yash Raj blockbusters with high concepts.
