How I Spent my Morning, Followed By Important Streaming News!

Have you noticed I’ve been doing slightly more of those “this is my life in song form” posts?  It’s partly because my fall is getting busier and busier and there are some days when all I have time to do is tell you all what I have been doing instead of blogging.  And partly because I’ve been blogging for almost 2 years now and I feel like you are all my friends, so why not tell you about my life?  Anyway, if you are bored by these posts, just skip to the end for the streaming news you should know.

This was the first Sunday of Sunday School, which is always both the slowest and fastest 50 minutes of my week.  11 kids, only 3 teachers, we were outnumbered!

(Maybe Sridevi could have handled it, but we can’t all be Sridevi)

The calmest time was when we taught them all a song.  Just like Shahrukh!

And then briefly at the end I had them all tied in yarn, that was kind of calm, but also slightly dangerous (we had to cut them loose).

(One Saif tied up by many women is a lot easier to control than 11 kid tied together by 3 adults)

Oh, and 4 of the 6 boys kept wrestling each other.  Question for you in the comments who are boys/parents of boys: is the rule “don’t bother stopping it unless there are tears or blood” still good?  Or should I try to progress to “no jumping/tackling/wrestling/slap fights/light punching AT ALL”?  Because that last seems a lot harder to enforce.

(This is essentially what happened for 50 minutes straight through various combinations of 4 different little boys.)

Anyway, we survived it, and then spent an hour trying to figure out what we can do better to keep them from killing each other/us and possibly actually learn something sometimes to.  So next week, MORE RUNNING AROUND ACTIVITIES!!! Wear them out so they can’t hurt each other.  Just like Chak De India.

Oh, and then we met with the kids’ parents who all said “They love coming to church on class days!  They used to complain and now they are so happy and excited and beg to come to church!”  Which I guess means we should just let them all keep trying to kill each other, because apparently they like that?

And then I went to the grocery store because I was out of milk, and then to the bank to deposit my paycheck to pay for the milk.

And now I am home and sitting on the couch watching a Malayalam movie on my TV instead of pirated from einthusan on my laptop because…………………HOTSTAR IS NOW AVAILABLE IN THE US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just go HERE to sign up.  And there is even a 30 day free trial available.  AND it is available as an app on smart TVs and TiVos and blu-rays and stuff!  Not just through Chromecast.

This is wonderful news firstly because it means there is a new high quality legal streaming source for Indian films.  And secondly because Hotstar has bought up all the “good” films and made them unavailable through any other source unless you were in the Hotstar market.  But now I AM in that market!  No more “this is not available in your region warnings!”  WOOT-WOOT!

And, it’s $10 a month.  But SO WORTH IT.  Based on their selection, if you are interested in Indian films, this is the one streaming service you should buy.

    • Looks like! Which means I can FINALLY watch Malli Malli Idi Rani Roju! Plus all kinds of other films that were only impossible to find because HotStar had the rights and wasn’t letting anyone else stream them. Like, for instance, Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha.

        • Just finished it! And immediately recommended it to Filmilibrarian, who is very unhappy with the lack of swoony romances in Hindi films. And this is the swooniest!

          • Right! This is one of my most favorite romances! It’s one of those movies that I love but I don’t talk about much because I end up forgetting about it.

If you want more Nithya or Sharwanand movie recommendations, let me know 🙂

          • I am SO EXCITED about having access to Hotstars 400+ Telugu films! You can give me recommendations, and I can actually watch them! Oh, except for that Suriya Gautham Menon movie. STILL impossible to find with subtitles unless I do einthusan.

          • Omg, there are so many movies! Just from looking at the first few rows on the list, I already have some suggestions!

            – Bhale Bhale Magadivoy: a fun rom-com starring Nani and Lavanya Tripati where Nani plays a guy who’s really forgetful.
            – Kanche: a romance/drama set in the 1930s and 1940s with a WWII backdrop. It stars Varun Tej who was in Fidaa and it’s really interesting.
            – Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu: a family drama starring Mahesh Babu and Venkatesh. Really nice and pleasant movie. It was the first multi-starrer in Telugu cinema in a long time.
            – Anand: a really nice romance made by Shekar Kammula, the director of Fidaa.
            – Julayi: a fun action-comedy starring Allu Arjun. It’s directed by Trivikram Srinivas who also made Athadu and Attarintiki Daaredi which you liked.

This is just for now, I’ll be back with more suggestions in the future 🙂

          • Yaaaay! The one thing I don’t like about Hotstar is that they have a terrible search function. I can’t look by star, I have to look by exact title.

    • Orders of magnitude better. Really, don’t even waste your time with the other services. 478 Hindi films, 317 Telugu, 813 Malayalam (!!!!), 93 Tamil, that’s the weakest. Compared to, what, maybe a few hundred total on googleplay/Netflix/Heera?

  1. Interesting! Does Hotstar also have the Star Plus tv shows, too (and with subtitles)?
I’ve been doing fine with Netflix, Einthusan, Shemaroo on youtube, torrenting for new releases and then purchasing DVDs of favorites. But this sounds worth it and I refuse to give more money to Amazon!

    • It does! at least, it does have a ton of TV shows, can’t promise subtitles for sure. But really, it’s an amazing library, highly recommend signing up for the 30 day trial at the least.

Oh! And I was just thinking of you! I was finally able to watch a Telugu movie that had been recommended to me, and about halfway through I thought “boy i hope filmilibrarian comments soon so I can tell her to watch this, because this is her jam!” totally ridiculously unbelievably romantic. and the hero is cute too. Malli Malli Idi Rani Roju. Oh, and it’s impossible to find anywhere else, so don’t even bother looking, just sign up for the trial, watch the movie, go “oh my, this is so worth $10 a month’, and live a happy life.

  2. I’m browsing hotstar library now (just for curiosity because it’s not avaiable in Italy) and their offer is indeed great. A lot of movies, even from 60′ and 70′ and there is a malayalam movie about Jesus too. I mean, where else you can find a movie like this?

    • No where! They aren’t on DVD, they aren’t streaming anywhere else, thank goodness Hotstar is available here because it is literally the only place to see these movies.
