You know how there is this crazy terrible extreme weather all over the world right now? Well, in my little part of the world, all that is happening is that we have a freakishly hot spell. Like, literally hotter right now than it was in July. Which is really nothing in the grand scheme of things, but still, I’M HOT!!!! And therefore, I am looking up songs to cool me down.
This song not only has cooling visuals, but through some kind of crazy Rahman magic, it SOUNDS cool, right? Like, you listen to it and it is as though a chilly breeze swept past you.

That’s the romantic version of cold, let’s look at something that’s a little more on the emotionless and powerful side of things. I hate the official promo version of this song, so I am using a nice internet persons version with the film opening credits.

And then a sad one, but one in which for once they are actually dressed for the code! And which makes me want to visit Russia. Or else re-watch Dr. Zhivago, one or the other.

And finally a classic, which was just mentioned in the comments, and proves both that snow is sexy, and that Arvind Swamy is the perfect husband (as if we needed any more proof of that).

Lucky is a nice little film, I’d like to read your thoughts on it. While I certainly wouldn’t call it a “classic”, I also wouldn’t apply that label to several other films you’ve already reviewed in your Friday classics, so you may as well go for it. 🙂

It’s such a great snow song! Captures the wonder of it all, without making it unrealistic seeming to people who actually live in snow.

I haven’t reviewed any of the big 3 Ratnam crossover hits yet, partly because I know them too well, I’m not even sure what I would say. But maybe some week when I don’t have time to watch anything new Tamil and need to dip into my memory.

This is probably a wrong comment for this post, but I am excited to tell you that hotstar is currently available in US, and they have the movie Chenkol (sequel to kireedam), with so accurate subtitles. Please watch and give a review of it, and especially mohanlal’s acting. This movie showcases predicaments that mohanlal’s character goes through, thus Mohanlal’s acting is soaked in emotions; emotions, that an human being doesn’t face in his/her life.

I am so excited about HotStar! I’ve been watching all kinds of thing. I saw Chenkol was on there, but it was such a BIG movie, I didn’t want to watch it unless I could really focus. So I watched c/o Saira Banu instead.

I wouldn’t say that film is so important compared to better movies of mohanlal, but acting-wise alone, this is a rare movie, because mohanlal is in his absolute best throughout the movie. It is so beautiful to watch him act; it has a scene similar to robert de niro’s ‘you talking to me’, in which mohanlal talks to both a mirror and another character at the same time.

I am glad that ShahRukh ‘made’ Maya Memsaab…and yes, in retrospective it was his pairing with Deepa (again in ODJHI), the clearly older and more experienced women that was something special in his career. I like his weakness and passion (in that movie and in general).
