Happy Wednesday! I finally got around to making this week’s box office video. Not anything really different from the box office post I already put up, but with hand gestures and stuff to make it more interesting.

Wouldn’t Secret Superstar’s mediocre box office be a really big deal, given that Aamir’s last 3 movies each set box office records? Or does the release strategy of SS show that Aamir was expecting much more modest box office from SS than his previous 3?

I think it’s the release strategy, and I believe he even was careful to indicate it in interviews, saying that he was really in a small part it wasn’t “his” movie, they knew it would never find a big audience, etc. etc. He did the same for Talaash and Dhobi Ghat and Tara Zameen Par. And Shahrukh did it for Dear Zindagi. Making sure that the films weren’t counted as “failures” because they should be graded on a curve and not as real “Khan” films.
However, just by me, I think it is a bad sign for the Aamir Khan style of film. To me it looks like people are getting kind of tired of the more preachy films. But then maybe he knows that, and that is why he is making Thugs of Hindostan next.
