At one point, Shahrukh was rumored to be coming. But it looks like they scaled back after Shashi’s death. Which is good, because if Shahrukh had come, I would be SO JEALOUS! What does that baby have that I don’t have? Why would Shahrukh go to his party and not mine?
For my first birthday, my grandparents came and my Mom made a cake that looked like a balloon because I really liked balloons. We didn’t go to our family palace, we didn’t ride horses or have a carousel, there were no movie stars at all, it was all pointless! I wasn’t even as cute as Taimur (now wait for my mother to read this and call me up and say “oh you were so cute! you were the cutest baby in the world”).
Anyway, spoiled little fat cute Taimur got a super super big birthday at the family palace. And his Daddy has a mustache! I’m not sure how I feel about that. I mean, I’m okay with the big birthday, all babies are special and blah blah, it’s the mustache I’m uncertain about.
Birthday cake! Guess his mother didn’t make it for him herself. Also not clear on the theme. That looks like Tigger at the top, but then all the others just look like regular animals, not Winnie the Pooh animals.
Baby with maternal cousins! Karisma’s kids. I find it charming that her daughter wears glasses. No reason, I just always find little girls in glasses charming.
Okay, Taimur got balloons too, just like I did at my first birthday.
The birthday boy! In his little royal Pataudi suit, babysized.
Birthday carousel! Taimur may not be into it.
This he is in to! A born horseman, so long as it is a mouse-horse made of plastic.
Not so much with the real horse. Also, love that Kareena has a coffee cup with her. Parental realness!
Speaking of parental realness, this has very much a look of “do you think we should movie him?” “No, he seems happy” to it.
We’ve seen Pataudi prince styling, now check out movie star style Taimur from the other side of the family!

Another look at the mustache. And glasses. I don’t think I like either of them. The baby accessory is good, but I would get rid of the rest of it.
Remember Armaan Jain? Who we HATE because he is forcing himself down our throats with all his “I’m a Kapoor!” stuff? Does this make you like him more or less? I think more because it is being cute with a baby, but a lot less because it is him posting this photo on twitter in order to, once again, remind us he is a Kapoor.
Tractor! Baby on tractor! Okay, I did that. Me and Taimur don’t have a completely different childhood, we went to a family farm and climbed on tractors around that age.
Okay, cute family photo and all that, but WHOSE HAND IS BABITA HOLDING???? It’s like some disembodied ghost hand or something! I can’t make sense of the space of it all.
And the poster shot for the TV miniseries about their life in which Saif is the dastardly land owner having an affair with his own sister-in-law and someone tries to murder him in the first episode, and the rest of the show is unraveling the mystery. I would watch that miniseries.
Finally, the custom light display. Which, again, my parents didn’t get a custom light display for my first birthday! My babyhood was worthless.

My first birthday had a patriotic theme. My brother got the big formal party at home. Where my mom dressed to the nines. Which is what I absolutely hate about Kareena and Karisma in these pics. The baby is mote formally dressed than the two of them!! There better be a series of pictures with Nawab and Begum Pataudi dressed to fit the occasion. Nobody cares about them being “real”. We have Facebook and WhatsApp and real life to see what real people look like! Stars need to act like stars. Royalty even more so! Where are the vintage sarees and family jewels??!!

That hadn’t even occurred to me! You have much higher standards for parents of a one year old than I do. I was looking at the photos thinking “Hey, they got out of PJs before noon and Kareena’s wearing make-up!” But then, that’s my standard for middle-class parents, if you have a nanny and a cook and a cleaning woman and someone else doing all the laundry, you’re right, why can’t they dress up a little?

That estate probably has a staff of at least 20+. Kareena has at least one dedicated nanny and they could have easily flown a stylist down from Mumbai for the event. Do they dress that casual for their own birthday parties or that of their friends’? No they don’t! So why not make the effort for their baby! Hell they even dress up for paps at the airport so not buying this entire “we couldn’t make an effort” thing!

The actual tradition is no celebrations of any sort till the first death anniversary but most people get the barsi puja done with the post funeral rites. So auspicious events can be held and don’t need to wait for the barsi.
And they’re celebrating anyway. And making pictures public.
I guess them keeping it a low-key affair takes the shine off the entire nawabi aura. There are such few good looking nawabs now. I guess that’s what’s bumming me out! Lack of nice looking royals! 😂

Yep, there’s a really interesting combination of babies right now! Babies and slightly bigger. AbRam, Twinkle’s daughter, Aaradha, Azad, Taimur, Karan’s twins, and Ahil from Salman’s family.
