My Mercury is Out of Retrograde!

Thanks to Asmita, we all learned the valuable lesson a few weeks ago that Mercury was in Retrograde, thereby causing all sorts of minor inconveniences and mistakes to all of us here in BlogWorld.  And also Alia Bhatt who broke her shoulder.  But now, it is out of retrograde!  And I don’t know about you, but my life is suddenly locking into place.

The last few days of Mercury in retrograde were pretty horrible.  Friday I got a massive migraine while driving home from the movie theater, which is a bad time for that since I get visual auras and can’t move my eyes.  Saturday it rained AND there was a Cubs game, two things that are not supposed to happen simultaneously (since in theory the rain would cause the game to be canceled, only this time they just decided to play wet and make my life miserable), and I ended up in the car for 4 hours in horrible rainy game day traffic jams, rushing to complete church responsibilities and dog paperwork and GAH.  Sunday I only got 5 hours of sleep (because new dog in a new place) and then had to go down to church for 4 hours, came home desperate for a nap but couldn’t because my parents and then a friend came over.  Just horrible.

(Cubs traffic is essentially the same as regular Bombay traffic for the mile surrounding Wrigley Field, and unfortunately my church is within that mile.  I’m not used to regular Bombay traffic!  I like it when the car can move for a quarter mile without stopping, and there is 20 feet between me and all other vehicles, not when I am being honked at by cars an inch from my back and front bumpers and drunk people are jaywalking all around me.  Cubs fans are the worst)

But, starting Monday, life is so much better!  The dog slept through the night, first of all.  And I was able to go to the doggie store on the way home from work and get her a bright pink dog bed and a halter and dog food and all the other doggie things she needed.  And the store accepted all my coupons and I found everything super fast and there was no traffic on the way home and I got back with plenty of time to walk and feed Dog before my friend came over.  And then my friend was there and we watched a songs DVD that happened to have all her favorite songs on it, and life was pretty perfect.

(She loves this song.  Which is really not a common one on songs DVDs)

And then she left and I was able to finish a blog post before going to bed at a reasonable hour and sleeping like a log with Dog snoring away at the foot of my bed in her new doggie bed.

(Kind of looks cozier than my bed)

Tuesday, my boss wanted to take us out for a work dinner event thing, and I realized that poor doggie would be home alone.  But my Dad was able to walk her last minute, and the work dinner ended early, so it all worked out.  Plus, I got to make faces at my boss’ adorable 2 year old daughter all through dinner, which is just a fun time.

(Back to Jaanwar for an example of adorable fathers and babies)

Wednesday (last night), the Internet Man came over to my apartment and was FINALLY (knock on wood) able to fix the thing that has been broken since I moved in.  And confirmed that it was, indeed, their mistake and I should not be charged for service calls.  This will truly change my life.  I am very excited.

(INTERNET MAN!!!!  A far superior hero to stupid Krrish)

Also last night, my friend came over to meet Dog and brought me cookies.  And the minister called to tell me how wonderful I am for half an hour (she really likes me).  And I discovered the vegetables I bought a week ago have not gone bad and I could have them for dinner (with cookies for dessert).  Oh, and I got a coupon for a free Vet visit, so Dog gets to see a doctor tonight.

(another Dog.  Well, “Dogg”)

I don’t want to jinx anything, but today is shaping up pretty good too.  Got good parking in the garage, will be able to leave a little early to get to the Vet tonight, and I just got confirmation that I was able to schedule a doctor’s appointment for myself at the exact day and time I wanted too (I figured if I am willing to pay for the Dog to see a doctor once a year for a check-up, I might as well give myself that luxury as well).

(Hopefully not a doctor who is distracted by trying to heal a broken heart)

Oh, and this morning it stopped raining and the sun came out for the first time in 8 days.

  1. I have been so busy, haven’t been replying to posts here even when I wanted to . And I just hate when that happens cos I write all these posts in my head when I’m doing something or driving but then it’s just there unwritten. So it’s wonderful to hear things are going well for you and hoping to get some of that luck rubbed on by virtue of association.

    • I can’t decide if this is me being lucky, or just be being back to normal and no longer unlucky. Like, “oh wow, the clerk didn’t completely mess up checking me out!” may be a sign of how low my standards have fallen.

Anyway, yes! Take my luck! Enjoy it! Well, not all of my luck, but some of it.

  2. I’ve had a pretty rough time too, had been sick in bed for almost a month, and things are looking up now for me as well. Except the part where I have exams study for exams :/

  3. I love how you find joy in the small things like ‘veggies not gone bad’ & ‘store clerk checking you out without messing up’. Hope the good luck continues. And good news on the doggie. Did you decide on the name yet?

  4. Always wonderful when people appreciate also the small good things which happen to them 🙂 … well, to answer your question, I would say that you’ve left a phase of living in a trough as I’m not someone who cares for the movements of our planets … I just believe that undulation is something universal/Universal.
Your dog seems to be a smooth one…why Hazel? Because of this?

    • Not because of that, but that’s perfect for her! Very shy, very sweet once she gets to know you.

Her name from her original terrible owners (I say “terrible” because they gave her up when she was a year old and never got her spayed, that’s really all I know about them) was “Pistol”. Which is a terrible name for a sweet shy girl. The shelter renamed her to “Petal” because it sounded similar and matched her personality better. I landed on “Hazel” because it was a nice name and sounded similar to “Petal”.
