TGIF: Star Wars Themed! Strange Braids

Happy Friday!  And Star Wars Day!  Maybe no one else cares, but I think the whole Princess Leia look is a good start for a post, Best Braids!

Shahrukh Khan.  No.  I hate it, it is the worst thing ever.

Sridevi. Now this is classy!  And elegant

Kunal Kapoor.  Yes?  No?  Maybe?

Kangana.  Doing the full Leia!!!  But kind of messy, not sure if I like it.  And the whole outfit is odd.  But the Madhavan accessory is ON POINT.

Ranveer Singh.  Not sure what he is going for here, but then I never am.

Hemaji!  Kind of love the many little braids.  It’s also a semi-sensible hair option for a female warrior.

Prabhas.  I’m sticking with my original reaction to this hair of “I hate it”.

Alia.  Simple, cute, maybe too cute?

John is pulling this off?  Yes or no?

And then there’s Jaya, with the classic look.

Oh Shahid!  I think there are braids in there, and I also think I would have liked more braids to counteract the messiness of the rest.

Sonakshi, giving us a practical option that also kind of works with her face.

And finally, Rekha!  Showing us that simple is sometimes best.

Strangest braids/outfit

Kangana.  What is even happening?  I’d say it was some kind of theme event, but Maddy looks normal.

  1. I knew Kunal would be in here! He is the only man I enjoy seeing in a man-bun, with or without braids. It just works! So, he gets my best braids, male. Sonakshi gets best braids, female. I’m going with Ranveer for strangest braids. Guessing he was in hair/makeup for Padmavaat and whoever was doing the photo-shoot just decided to go with it? And, I have to say that it one of the cutest photos of Prabhas I’ve ever seen. It has the ultimate lazy weekend morning, just heading out to grab croissants, coffee, and a paper to read together in bed kind of vibe.

    • Sonakshi and Kunal both have great braid heads. Like, the line of their skulls is very pleasing, and the braids just serve to highlight it and make it even easier to appreciate

  2. Best braid man – Kunal is not bad but I don’t like braids on men so nobody
Best braid woman – Sridevi, because I love this hairstyle, and the second Rekha because I have very thin hair, and look ridiculous with braid and I always dreamed about having two thick braids like her.
Bonus – I like Anushka’s hair on this pic:

    • This should please you, I tried to include Maddy in braids and I couldn’t find a single picture of him braided. So he must agree with you.

Anushka is wearing the “messy braid” everyone talks about! I have seen so many elaborate lessons on how to achieve that look, but that’s what my braid always looks like after I sleep on it. So maybe people should just try that, skip the elaborate professional hair stylist and just take a nap before the event.

      • My hair always look like after the nap 😉

Thank you for searching Maddy 🙂 I’m glad he doesn’t have photos with braids.

And I have idea for next’s week TGIF, how about Telugu men appreciation post? While watching Magadheera, I was surprised how perfect Ram Charan’s face is, and I started thinking if telugu industry has the most handsome men. Or maybe hindi? I think we should discuss it.

        • A worthy topic of discussion! I am landing on Pakistani for most handsome of all time, but if we limit it to within the boundaries of India, then I am not sure where I would land.

          • I know only Fawad Khan from Pakistan so can’t say, but within India I can discuss for hours 🙂

  3. I didn’t even think about men when you said “best braids”, so that was a shocker. I’m with Angie that I don’t like braids on men. Man “buns” I have no problem with, as that’s a traditional look for Indian men.

Is it supposed to be “strange braids” (per your headline) or “best braids” (per your intro sentence)? While all the looks qualify for “strange braids” I’m surprised that you haven’t included the classic single braid for a grown woman, which would be my definition of “best braid”, something long and thick, for which you can find many examples, from before the 1990’s, from any Indian industry. Probably the most recent example would be Sridevi in English Vinglish.

    • Must be self-blindness, the long single braid is how I wear my own hair.

    • She does! And I am an anti-sucker for a ponytail, I will never accept Shahrukh, or any other man, wearing one. Including my father, thank goodness he cut his hair before I was born!

  4. Prabhas doesn’t have his hair in braids. That’s a wire hairband he’s got on.

Jaya’s do is basically the standard schoolgirl braid. Or was. I actually had to tie my hair for school Rekha-style till I chopped them off in the 10th standard. That was depressing!

    • You want depressing? After my aunt got to high school and cut her hair, my grandmother sentimentally kept the schoolgirl braids in a box in her room. And then my father, the much younger little brother of the household, was playing in his mother’s room one day, found the braids, found a pair of scissors, and cut them all up.

        • Excellent point! A much more evocative way of remembering childhood than the braids themselves.
