Sonam Wedding Part 2: The Big Day! Amitabh is There

More photos!  And Ranveer finally makes an appearance.  Question, how horrible is it for Dips to be in America at the Met Gala while her boyfriend’s cousin is getting married?  Is that like an acceptable thing for a girlfriend to do, pick a work event over a family wedding?  If the wedding is just your boyfriend’s cousin?

Rani, again, looking great.  But not as great, this outfit looks ever so slightly too tight, both the waist and the top.  But the style is perfect for her, and the make up and jewelry are perfect.

Bachchan kids, looking very nice and appropriate.  They came with their Dad, but no Jaya or Aish.  Which is fair, Shweta was there to represent the female side of things, Abhi was there to escort them, and of course Amitabh was the important piece.  I forget, but Abhishek actually co-starred with Sonam twice.  Or maybe 3 times?  Anyway, he knows her.

Karisma came with Kareena and Saif, I love the skirt and hate the top.  The high neck fashion should shrivel up and DIE.

Jhanvi and Khushi look very sweet and very age appropriate in pastels.

Karan also looks very sweet in pink.  Although I really hope the venue is air-conditioned because that looks HOT.  In the literal sense.

Jacqueline looks good too, I wonder if there was a subtle “wear pink if possible” message sent out by the bride to her besties?  Or just that pink is in this year and they all know it even if I don’t?

And Sonam, the perfect Punjabi bride.  I appreciate that she managed to be formal and traditional without feeling like she wasn’t herself any more.  That’s a lot of jewelry and henna, but she can still move and I can still see her face.

Swara Bhaskar, love the design, hate the cut.  If the neckline was just about 2 inches lower, I would love it.  Oh, but her jewelry is awesome and I want it.

Sonam Kapoor – Anand Ahuja wedding LIVE updates: Groom’s look out, Anil Kapoor, Jacqueline Fernandez ARRIVE

Anil, very happy.  And very dashing!  My goodness, he looks better than the groom, and all the bride’s brothers.  Right?

Although Arjun is looking pretty sleek.  Definitely lost a little weight, and the blue is great on him.

This is just a good photo of Ranveer.  A good photo in general too, but also the best shot I can find so far of Ranveer.  Love the white on white embroidery.

And finally, the venue!  Looks nice, I’d get married there.

Now, final section, the most “awwwwww” worthy photos!

Bride and groom smiling at each other!

Taimur!!!  He just has to show up.  Oh, and also Kareena looks stunning in pink.  If it is this year’s color, she is going to have a good year.

Sister’s!  Rhea helping Sonam get ready.

Junaid casually putting his arm around his stepmother.  So sweet! It kills me.

aamir kiran ndtv

Ranveer and Arjun giving Anil kisses.  Obviously I love this.

All the many many men in Sonam’s life carrying her veil.  I recognize Harsh and Arjun up front, not the others.

And of course, Ranveer and Arjun’s friendship will always make me smile.

But somehow, this is the most “awwww” photo for me.  Love the way Shweta is leaning p against Amitabh.

  1. As I say earlier, I love Anil photos, and you are right, he looks soooo good. Even better than Harsh!
    Sonam – stunning
    Arjun- very handsome
Shwara – good, not perfect, I love the colour, very peacock’y, my favourite kind of desing
Karisma – I think I like her outfit the most, yes, even the blouse.
Kareena and family – I hate their look, and what makes me angry is that everybody is like: aww how beautiful they are. The boy is ok, but Saif looks like somebody who just woke up, and didn’t have time to wash, brush the hair and change the clothes. Kareena’s dress is not bad but too fair, and her hair looks like mine when I don’t have time to wash it and have to go out. They didn’t won “the worst dressed” only because Aamir and his son look worse. Like really, it’s the wedding of the season and you come in crumpled cotton kurta? C’mon

And is my impression or all the photos from inside the venue look claustrophobic?

    • See, what I am wondering about is if this really is the wedding of the season. It’s really only a day and a half, the evening Sangeet after (I think) a day time family mehndi party, then the wedding, then a western wear reception this afternoon. And the wedding itself was just at her aunt’s house. Which, I am sure, is a very nice and large house, but it would be more of a lowkey vibe than if they were at some massive hotel ballroom.

I agree about Saif, and also Shilpa, not feeling fancy enough. But I can kind of see the feeling of “oh well, we just got the invitation card a week ago, it’s at her aunt’s house, I’ll grab my nicest clean outfit out of the closet and not necessarily get something new”.

Oh, and ditto on the claustrophobia, but again it is just at her aunt’s house, so they probably had to squeeze in a bit.

  2. Love Ranveer and Arjun…their friendship makes me happy, too. Totally agree about the Aamir Khan and family…they are trying too hard to be the intellectual snobs that they are.

Shwara’s outfit is probably my favorite of the guests but I like Rhea’s too (same designer/line maybe). I think I lilke Shwara’s outfits better than Sonam’s even.

Agree about Saif and Kareena. She always looks beautiful but this look is a bit boring and Saif looks too rumpled, too.

I love how the Bachchans always coordinate their looks and so did Boney and his daughters and that’s sweet.

  3. Ranveer is Sonam’s second cousin so it’s not such a close relation that his girlfriend would be required to be there. Also, she’s just a gf, not his wife.
I love Karisma’s outfit the most. It’s so pretty.

    • Well heck, I went to my second cousin’s weddings! Although, we are also a super small family so it would have been noticeable if we skipped, not so much the case here.

I love Karisma’s skirt, but the top just bothers me, both the strong color contrasted with the light tone skirt and the cut of it.

  4. Ah I have been stalking insta and twitter to get updates on this mehendi/Sangeet/wedding. So good to have it all under one roof. The best part about this wedding was, even though there are a bunch of stars and upcoming stars, it all seemed intimate and loving. Like a family wedding with a lot of good looking people rather than a lot of important people show up because it’s an important wedding style. Close friends of Sonam are there supporting her, but so are close friends of Anil & Sunita (I have no idea about Anand but his friends were there too I guess). So it’s just laughing & dancing & cheerful leg pulling. As a South Indian who got married in our understated (read – boring) way have serious wedding envy. (Atleast I married my best friend). It’s lovely to see Sonam wearing traditional clothes. Her smile & glow just warmed my heart. I have a friend who is a huge fan of Sonam’s & she in return has been lovely to my friend so I feel really happy for her.

    • Yes! That’s how it felt to me too, intimate. I keep comparing it with Virat/Anushka, they seemed to have opted for a super tiny overseas wedding, and then MASSIVE receptions. Whereas this seems to be treading the line between, it’s not tiny, it’s still a fun big party, but it’s also not showy and public, just fun and pleasant.

I’ve been wondering if it was trimmed down because of Sridevi’s death, but I don’t think so. It feels like the wedding Sonam wanted, she kept their relationship so quiet, it makes sense that their wedding would be small and intimate too. But at the same time, the Kapoors are so liked in the industry that they would want to have a real party in Bombay, not just sneak off to Italy to do it. Sonam still got her big dress, and Ranveer and Arjun sang to her at the Sangeet, and all that fun stuff, but there wasn’t a red carpet, and it wasn’t a “must attend” event with a bunch of strangers you need to be formal with.

I’ll be curious about the reception this evening, if that is where they will pay their dues and invite absolutely everybody and be on their best behavior for the cameras, or if it will just be the late night drunken version of this family party.

Also, marrying your best friend is the best possible thing. Even if the wedding is boring, at least you have someone to joke about it with.

  5. I forgot to mention my fav looks. Anil Kapoor 💕 & Sonam of course. Ranveer looks great in his white Rohit Bal too. Everybody else has something or the other off about them. I really don’t enjoy the way kareena’s shawl is draped. Karishma’s blouse is umm. Rani’s blouse too 🤔 I liked swara’s look but loved her mehendi look more. Same with Jackeline. I’m generally happy to see Kiran with Junaid.
Also I think it’s ok for Deepika to not attend because they haven’t always been on best terms. Also nobody minds it for a reason like work event I feel. It’s not just vacation either.
Poor Varun after enjoying the sangeet he went to shoot through the night. Which leaves bro Arjun with Ranveer.
Arjun is everybody’s brother or what 😂

    Liked by 1 person

    • Starting 2 months ago, all of a sudden it feels like Arjun’s primary identity for the rest of his life will be “brother”. Kind of like how Abhishek is a bunch of other things, but at events like this suddenly drops into “good son” role above all. Seems like a good fit for Arjun though, he always had a kind of feel to him that I could quite identify, but suddenly “reliable kind solid brother” feels perfect. I love the idea of all the Kapoor women taking off and being successful and glamorous and hard working, and Arjun just running around between their houses, escorting them to events and zipping up dresses and generally being around.

Agree about the something or other off, and everyone looking better for the Sangeet. Maybe the Sangeet dress code and stuff was spread around among the friends far in advance? So they had time to plan and pick out something really nice? But then the wedding was just a “whatever, Indian formal” sort of event? I’ll be really curious about the evening looks, if people step it up again there.

Or heck, maybe Sonam’s request to everyone was “can you please make one thing about your outfit not quite right so I can look even better by comparison?”

  6. I am with Divya, as a Keralite I have major wedding envy too! Malayali weddings are b-o-ring! The wedding looks like so much fun! It just feels like a family who’re really close to each other. Having this many cousins who’re so close in age is perfect! Sonam looks gorgeous!
Best dressed: Karishma ( i just looove the high neck blouse, its beautiful if you’re able to carry it off) and Khushi – what a pretty color and Ranveer amongst the men
Worst-dressed: Swara – loved her sangeet outfit but this one doesn’t look weddingy, and Rani – the color doesn’t suit a day event and its too tight for her. Men – definitely Aamir, like what is he thinking???

      • Evening event photos are trickling out, Jackie Shroff, Rishi and Neetu, and Uddhav Thackaray are all there. So, I’m guessing that is the “we are inviting everyone in the world, and it’s insulting if you have a family connection and don’t come” event. But the Sangeet and ceremony both looked like “we are only inviting people we really care about and it’s not insulting if you skip it” kind of events.

Btw I meant Jacqueline and not Shroff, he is weirdly dressed as always 😀 Jacqueline has brought her A-game to the festivities!

          • Maybe it’s some sort of “no one related to my exes” situation. Or, just that Rishi and Neetu had something they couldn’t skip during the day. Or, looking at the guest list for the day events, maybe it was just “close friends of Sonam and a few friends of our parents”. I somehow feel like even Amitabh was there more because Shweta is Sonam’s friend so Amitabh came along with her.

    • But the southern weddings always look so fun in movies! Religious and family oriented and no alcohol, but still fun.

Aamir’s long hair and headband just looks messy. I hate it and I can’t wait for him to finish filming and go back to a clean mature look.

Ranveer looks good, but I would still give the edge to Anil. I love the simple cotton outfit with the statement necklace.

Agree about Rani, still way better than she has looked in the past, but not as good as it could be. Her evening outfit looks nice though. And just generally, I think she is more beautiful now than she was even as a young woman, she is really coming into her own as a mature woman.

Oh I just saw photo of Arjun with all his 3 sisters. It’s sweet and sad at the same time. And I don’t know if I like the fact Sridevi’s dauthers came to this evening party. I mean, it’s not my business, but stil it’s been not even 3 months.

        • I was going back and forth too. But they are teenagers (or close to it), it would be kind of cruel to have this big fun evening party that everyone else in their family, and all their friends, are going to and they have to stay home. Hopefully it is also kind of a cleansing thing, the whole family getting together for a joyous reason after getting together for a sad reason.

If they didn’t get the “Teenagers can do anything pass”, I would have a harder time with their outfits. Very sweet pastels, but also kind of tight and revealing. But they are teenagers! I’m not going to tell Boney he should be policing his daughters outfits while he’s still mourning his wife, and I’m not going to tell Jhanvi and Khushi they can’t wear something that makes them feel pretty. I just have this vision of Internet Boys seeing these sweet sister photos and making gross jokes about threesomes and stuff.

          • Maybe stupid question: If Sridevi hadn’t died would she have been invited with her daughters at this wedding? How were their relations at official events in the family?

            Like

          • I think it would have been half the coverage of the event, “will Sridevi come????” And I don’t know if she would have or not. I mean, she was at a family wedding in Dubai when she died, but then that was a really really big wedding. I could go either way, I could even imagine that Jhanvi and Khushi might have come with their father but no one else.

The Kapoors were very inclusive and I don’t think it was a big problem since Mona had died a while back. If she were alive, maybe it would be difficult.

  8. So much pretty and so many d’awwww moments in this post. Looking forward to evening photos/post if you have time. Anil, Sonam, Ranveer, and Arjun look great. I’m not loving Karan in the pink–just that particular shade is kind of pepto-bismol-y. Though up close the embroidery looks nice. Those long jackets over longer cotton shirts do look super hot. I want Anil’s necklace!

My faves are Abhishek and Rani. Abhi looks so relaxed and happy here. Love the texture on his jacket and he looks surprisingly good in the turban. I love everything about Rani’s outfit. From the angle in this photo I don’t think the outfit is too tight. For example you can see a gap between the sleeve and her arm. I just think she has little rolls of fat/some slightly saggy skin around her middle–as most Moms and/or women over 30 have–that she is not hiding. Would have to see other angles to be sure though. I super duper love the colors, the patterns, and the bling.

    • I do love Abhi in the photos, you are right, he looks really happy. Considering this was more of the “family” event, it made me wonder how close he is to Sonam. Like, did they know each other growing up? Or is it just that they co-starred in some significant films together and it formed a bond?

I might agree with you on Rani, but I would still slightly lower her waist band, and give it a dip in front, that’s the best way to make a woman’s natural curves look good and it would have really emphasized her lovely figure.

      • Agree with the dip. Maybe the tie/ornament thing on the side of her skirt could also go in the middle to accentuate the dip? Or just a plain waistband that dips down in front a bit.

        Like

        • Yeah, any of those would work. It’s a much more graceful line, on any woman, to have the waistband sit at the hip and naturally dip down under the belly button instead of straight at the waist.

  9. I hope none of you have lost a parent very young, but I am close to people who have. Jhanvi and Khushi should be applauded for putting one foot in front of another day after day. Boney as well. That they dressed up, smiled and celebrated their cousin speaks volumes to their courage and fortitude. Please, please do not judge them for the “its only been three months”. Believe me, the easier thing to do would have been to stay home. Not marring Sonam’s wedding by publicly showing their grief was the bravest, kindest thing they could do.
On a lighter note. Sonam is a control freak (see how much instruction she was giving the groom during the ceremony!) so I’m pretty sure she sent out the directive to wear pink.

    Like

    • Somehow Aamir and Kiran feel like last minute people to me. Like, they weren’t planning to come and then suddenly changed their minds. I don’t think they are that close to the family either. Maybe it was that they planned to go to the evening party and a conflict came up so they decided to go to the day time event instead? Which would explain why their outfits are fine, but not spectacular, and also why they stand out a little as the family that is least close to the bride.
