Monday Morning Questions: What Do You Want to Ask Me Independence Week?

Happy Monday!  I have a wee bit of a crazy week, so posting may be the slightest bit erratic.  But today at least, I am at work with nothing else to do but respond to comments!  So, lay your questions on me!

You can ask me anything from the personal (“are you watching Gold or Satyamev Jayete this weekend?”) to the specific and factual (“when and what is Indian Independence Day?”) to the general discussion (“is Gold or Satyamev Jayete going to be the better movie?”)

Only rule is, you have to let me answer first!  The discussion just goes better that way.  But once I answer, please feel free to leap in and join the conversation.

Now, question for you!

We already recommended songs to each other for music.  Now, what are some lessor known (can be popular, just not like “Chaiyya Chaiyya” popular) songs that just have great visuals?

This is my pick, I was just looking at it to remind myself of how awesome Tabu is.  Nothing fancy, no special effects or anything, just a standard dance with chorus, but really well done.

  1. Who’d you pick for a qawwali face-off? Rishi vs Rekha would be my choice.Since you are familiar with all the songs from 90s onwards I’ll delve back and pick Mumtaz’s amazing dance in a casino. She’s grabbing all the eyeballs and diverting the attention while Pran and Sunil Dutt are dealing with the competition.

And for some pretty fancy Latin dancesteps check out Asha Bhosle’s One-two-cha-cha-cha remix circa 2000. The song was originally sung by Usha Uthup for Shalimar and picturised on Aruna Irani. You can compare both versions if you like.

      • Mumtaz is adorable with that cute tip-tilted nose. And her dance moves are amazing. And I love her being a vamp. Here in Bhai-bhai she’s paired with evil Sunil while Asha Parekh gets good Sunil in the next song. And how often do you get Sunil Dutt,Pran and Madan Puri working together? That calls for a selfie in itself.

        • Each time I watch Mumtaz dancing, I imagine young ShahRukh initating her dance moves…

For me, a stunning song but not known as much as Chayyia and Mare Dala ist Saanson Ki Mala Pe (Koyla). The video starts with the dancing but should start with Madhuri’s arm getting burned by vicious Amrish Puri…

          • I love that song number!!!! It’s also one of the best “duets” with a dancer and a drummer. Something which you really don’t see as much as you would think, considering it is a classic Indian performance style (I think).

    • I want Rishi versus Ranbir in my Qawwali face off. I don’t like everything about Ranbir, but by golly he is great at lipsynching!

    • We were all set to see Gold, and then Dina saw the SJ trailer and fell in love with the total ridiculous over the topness of it and kind of wants to see it. She’s the one who’s also in love with Tiger Shroff.

  2. You know which song has great visuals? Yeh Kaisi Jagah from Hamari Adhuri Kahani . I rewatched it now and I almost started crying. This video, the song and the movie are too beautiful. Oh and I should have mentioned it in your Ugly Cry Movies list!

I like Ishq Mubarak from Tum Bin 2. I know, it’s not like the most imaginative video ever, but it has pretty people in pretty clothes dancing in beautiful places and Aditya Seal shirtless
