Saturday Small Talk: Happy Saturday! Let’s Chat!

Happy Saturday!  I am (hopefully) going to have a very productive day today.  If not, I will just sit here replying to comments with lightening speed instead.

Stuff to talk about!

What are we all going as for Halloween?

I am considering options, but I am strongly leaning towards going as Dog Hazel.  Which basically just means wearing a dog ear headband.

How are we all celebrating Halloween?

Baring a last minute party invite, I will celebrate by wearing dog ears to work, and then enjoying watching all the little kids in costume when I walk Dog Hazel at night, and then perhaps enjoying a Halloween themed sitcom episode (Sabrina the Teenage WitchBrooklyn 99Frasier?) before going to bed.  Wild times!

What costume would you like to see your favorite Indian stars in?

I want to see Prabhas dressed up as Bahubali basically all the time, Halloween included.

I want to see Nivin dressed as a farmer in a lungi

I want to see Shahrukh dressed like a Vampire.

Okay, that’s all I can think of to talk about in this mostly newsless time before the big Diwali releases!  If I have missed some fun news item or anything else you feel like mentioning, here is the place!

  1. Halloween has turned into a fun holiday now that our kid is old enough to go trick or treating with her friends. We’ll go hang out with other parents, eat pizza, drink beer, and hand out candy to cute trick or treaters. Then we’ll watch our kids do their traditional candy sort and swap afterwards.

I like the idea of you dressing like Hazel and her dressing like you. If you were to dress Hazel up like you, what would she be wearing?

Did you see that Bauaa Singh has his own Twitter account now, and has had an exchange with Shah Rukh? What do you think of this as a marketing strategy for Zero? I guess it depends on how it plays out over time.

    • I hated trick or treating as a kid, I was much happier once I got older and would stay home and hand out candy instead. Way more fun.

I think I could make Hazel a blond wig out of yarn, which is really all she would need to look just like me. I will have to experiment. Obviously, if it works, there will be photos to share with you all.

I think the twitter idea might be really clever. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen this before with other movies, and it’s a nice lowkey way to get us engaged with the character. It might even work as market research, let them see what tweets get a response and what kind, and that tells them how to promote the film in trailers and itnerviews and higher profile ways.

  2. Damn! I wish I knew Hindi! I bought the book and all the easy tapes, but aside from a few tiny sentences and actually a lot of individual words, the language so far defeats me. I came to this country at 14 speaking almost no English and learned it in what seemed like weeks, with hardly no accent. Oh well, the brain power of youth. For Halloween, I’m taking my 2 youngest trick or treating. The 8 year old is going as Asoka and the 10 year old as Baahubali. Their parents are, like, “Mmmm…”

  3. SRK as vampire… reminds me that I’d add “internal quiet brooding intensity” and “introspects and feels things deeply” to your “things i love about SRK” post. It’s not just brainy intelligence (which can be quite airy and detached on its own) – it’s the passiom and intensity to go along with the intelligence. It makes him a typical Scorpio and a perfect candidate for a vampire. I’m a Scorpio too so i can totally relate (unless that’s just me projecting lol).

    • Yes, absolutely, he thinks things through not just because he enjoys thinking as an intellectual exercise, but because he cares intensely and wants to think things through in order to make things better.

  4. For Halloween, I’m going to pop out my false teeth, scruff up my (very) white hair and cackle a lot, as I hand out candy to the kiddies. I’ll probably scare a few trick or treaters away, leaving more candy for me! My dogs, dressed as each other, will be attending a Puppy Party while the cats stay home and luxuriate in the quietude.
I want to see Ranveer Singh dressed as a mild mannered librarian – dark suit, white shirt, dark tie and glasses. NOBODY would recognize him!

    • Ha! about 7 years ago my Grandmother fell down and hit her face and ended up with an impressive terrifying collection of scraps and bruises on her face, plus the white hair and false teeth and so on. I was working at the movie theater at the time. my parents had printed out a photo of her, I took it in to work, and somehow it ended up mixed in with the Halloween decorations. 3 years ina row we hung it right by the register. No one ever believed me when I said it was my grandmother, not some scary witch picture from the internet.

  5. The only thing I’ll do for Halloween, maybe, is set up a Halloween doll display somewhere in my house. It isn’t such a big thing here and we generally don’t get trick or treaters calling on us.

BTW, thank you for the Halloween card, it is currently a bookmark in ‘Pyjamas are Forgiving’ 👧🏻😀👧🏻😀

    • Google “Koffee With Karan Aamir” and look for Dailymotion links rather than youtube or hotstar.

Or, just get a hotstar trial and watch it and then cancel.

        • You might want to try again, I don’t understand how these things work but I have noticed a steady improvement on the app function as time goes on.

          • I have a basic Hotstar sub (which I think was free??? – I don’t have premium) and I used to be able to watch on my PC – very buffery though. But then they changed the geographical permissions so I couldn’t watch it at all even though I still have the account. They don’t have an app for the Australian Roku, drat. However…I’m now using a VPN and I can watch KwK once again 🙂

          • For me, the basic Hotstar was free for about 3 months, and then it was impossible in my region so I had to use a VPN, and then they finally created us.hotstar.com which was super buggy at the beginning (sometimes would just spin and not open) but has rapidly gotten better and better.

    • I was able to watch the first two episodes on Daily Motion. Not sure how long they stay up before they are pulled down, I’ve watched both episodes on Sunday morning after they aired Saturday overnight in India.

Just did a quick search on DM, both episodes are available but on different channels than I originally saw them on.
