An Important Question For Our Time: What is the Sexiest Scene in Indian Film?

I don’t think anyone has formed a definitive answer to this before?  Or, perhaps, even been brave enough to pose the question!!!  But I feel like if anyone is qualified to answer such a vital open research topic, it is the DCIB community.

This is of course subjective, what is sexy for one person may not be sexy for another.  And on the other hand, the data set is so massively large (including the entire history of film from all languages) that it is a daunting consideration to even begin.

But you have to begin somewhere!  And so I shall take a random stab at a beginning giving us a first few scenes to consider, you can jump off from where I started with your own opinions:

Gazebo Scene

JHMS Kiss Scene

Jodha-Akbar “In Lamhon” song

Awara slap scene

Mughal-E-Azam feather scene

“Pavizhampol” from Namukku Parkkan Munthiri Thoppukal

“Roop Tere Mastana” from Aradhana

Dil Se almost-kiss scene

“Kadhal Sadugudu” from Alaipayuthay

Devasena walking on Bahubali

“Aga Bai” from Aiyyaa

As I said, that is just to get us started on this monumental task.  Are there any options above that you would immediately reject from the running?  What needs to be added to consideration (post link in comment if possible)?

  1. I’m curious what others will say but for me JHMS kiss was more romantic than sexy. And Aga Bai, is very, very sexy but in a exaggerated way, so I don’t know if I would count it.
Do old Emraan Hashmi films and movies like Hate Story count?

      • -As I said yesterday stable scene in Mirzya is one of the sexiest scenes ever for me
        – I love KKHH gazebo scene
        – Race is very sexy, but I don’t remember one exact scene
        – And my newest favourite: Kartikeya and Payal Rajput enjoying the pool in #RX100

    • Right, and one of the sexiest not only in Indian movies!
Anushka and mostly SRK, guided with a subtle hand by Imtiaz Ali managed to cross the tight rope between the surge of desire and its suppression. In that gap the spectator is glued to Harry’s and Sejal’s feelings which build the sensuality of the scene.
Damage it was not included in the film, maybe it would make JHMS better understood.

  2. Dostana, just the whole movie in my mind. That movie of those I’ve seen is a goldmine for fanning oneself on the beautifully sculpted spectacle that is John Abraham. And it is so shamelessly and aesthetically pleasing that it beats out Magic Mike (I’ve not seen it, but my friend who has said Dostana beat it out of the water in terms if fan service and I take her at her word from what little I remember from the trailers a hundred years ago)

My friends quotes when we watched the movie together who hopefully won’t mind because they are good and I’m paraphrasing from memory anyway:

‘Could that V-neck come any lower!’

‘They are using every excuse now aren’t they?’

    ‘His body practically repels clothes!’

‘Sam’s clearly the woman in the relationship.’ (nothing to do with the above, but just so good I had to add it)

  3. I’m 100% biased but the Raja Hindustani kissing scene. Wasn’t that kiss a very big deal when the movie was released?

I don’t think this belongs on any lists, I just like it a lot: the dancing in the rain scene between Akshay and Kajol in Yeh Dillagi.

Of the options you listed, Jodha Akbar is #1 for me. Scorchingly hot after all the buildup.

    • Yep, that kiss was a VERY big deal.

Jodha-Akbar is pretty good. And it also gives us the most beautiful people to see onscreen together.

  4. Whose voice is that in the Dil Se scene?? If I was voting on the sexiest scene in JHMS, I’d opt for the scene after he’s been attacked by the gangsters and they almost but don’t kiss on the couch and then in the bed…that is really sexy. And then there is the scene in KANK when they are actually supposed to be having sex, but of course there is no kissing (before his kissing on screen days) and it keeps cutting to Priety and Abishek dancing. That scene gets me every time. And every other scene in Asoka…..

    • The best Dil Se clip I could find came from the Tamil version, didn’t think about it but I guess it probably is dubbed instead of his voice.

I just do not get the Asoka love! His hair looks so oily and yucky and horrible, ruins the whole thing for me.

    • I love that scene in Asoka after he and Kareena are married, in the forest, with the horse. And, Margaret, it’s after he’s cut his hair–I can’t stand the long wig either, but he looks just fine to me once he’s back in short hair.

Him: “I love you, I’ll give you anything.”
      Her: “Give me your horse.”
      Him: “He’s yours.”
      Her: “Give me your clothes.”
Him: “Not in front of the the horse.”

It’s so sweetly teasing, and all about prolonging the anticipation of consummation.

Having said that, the all time sexiest scene for me is the almost kiss in Dil Se. Again, it’s all about the anticipation.

  6. The post-gangster almost sex scene in JHMS is my sexy favorite, surpassing my previous fave, the hotel scene in KANK. And oh, yes Jodha Akbar, which made a true convert of one of my Indian movie newbies.

  7. No disputes with your starter list here!

Here’s my list…I may have given this too much thought in the past!
    In no particular order…
    1. Jodhaa- Akbar – the sword scene and the moment when they almost kiss

    2. Arjun Kapoor kisses (of basically any kind, though his best are by the pool in Aurangzeb & in the abandoned building/barn in Ishaqzaade)

    3. Lots of little moments in Ajay and Rani’s Chori Chori…like when she tries to help him button his shirt or when she falls into his arms accidentally…their chemistry is so sexy in a Mills and Boon sort of way…wasn’t there something about them not starring together again?

    4. The confrontations between SRK and Shilpa Shukla’s characters in Chak De India! I’m not a fanfic person, but I’ve definitely written some in my head about them!

    5. Sid tying Parineeti’s choli in Hasee Toh Phasee

    6. John and Vidya’s wedding night scene in Salaam-E-Ishq

    7. Amitabh and Zeenat’s first meeting in the police station in Dostana and the looks he gives her

    8. The motel scene between Priyanka and Ranbir in Anjaana Anjaani

    9. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil – Bulleya song scenes with Ranbir and Aishwarya

    10. Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola – Imran and Anushka’s kiss

    11. D-Day – first scene with Arjun and Shruti

    12. Prithviraj and his co-stars kiss in Anarkali (which makes me feel icky too because of the age difference in the script!)

    13. Vidya’s cameo song in Urumi (Malayalam)

    14. Sanam Teri Kasam – just about every scene with Harshvardhan Rane, but definitely the tub scene

    15. Agneepath with Hrithik – O Saiyyan, the love scene song; is this in the final cut of the film, I always forget?

    16. The water slide scene in Ohm Shanthi Oshaana

    17. Ram-Leela – their first song

    18. The tentative love scenes in Raazi, even the scene where they are listening to the record together…it’s very old school classic Hollywood noir to me

    19. Anushka and Diljit’s love scene in Phillauri

    20. Kaun Kitne Paani Mein – the “angry” kiss scene…there just aren’t enough in Indian films

    21. Inkaar – any scene where Arjun is being brooding in this problematic but sexy film

(I just scanned my shelves and wrote this without too much thinking…I’m probably missing some!)

    • Seconding number 4 and number 9. Ranbir’s and Aish’s chemistry was off the chain, and the kind of almost exhibitionism in that song is much hotter than the over the top stuff in Befikre.

Glad I’m not the only one that, while wanting Kabir to take the high road in Chak De, found their scenes steamy.

      • So, I’m guessing the one’s you might not have seen are

        1) Chori Chori with Rani and Ajay (along with Mujhse Dosti Karoge this is peak 90s Mills and Boon alpha hero/sweet heroine goodness and their chemistry is so good!)

        2) Hasee Toh Phasee – you know how we feel about the fact that you still haven’t seen this (though you did try that time!)

        3) Have you seen Salaam-E-Ishq? Such an underrated film.

        4) Dostana with Amitabh – it’s worth a look

        5) Anjaana Anjaani? It’s a weird set-up but it has its moments and one of the very few PC roles I can take

        6) Anarkali and Urumi (two Malayalam films with Prithviraj that are completely different…Anarkali is a love story that seems to make the female lead all but unnecessary for the emotion of the film…it’s weird and I think Urumi was my first Malayalam film and still one of my favorites for the music, the dancing, the cinematography)

        7) Would love your take on Inkaar someday…it’s a good idea with a misguided script, but Arjun Rampal and Chitrangada Singh burn up the screen

        • Seen Urumi and Salaam-E-Ishq, but otherwise you got it!

I have the same vague feeling about some kind of rumor or something with Chori Chori, but I can’t remember any details.

  8. I think this scene where Saif and Vidya Balan get married in Parineeta is sexiest.

Also this song from Nagarjuna’s Gitanjali is the most romantic!!

I prefer kadhal sadugudu for playful romance though 🙂

-Cookie in Main Yahaan Hoon, SRK is the king of romace for a reason
And I agree with many filmilibranian votes: Arjun K kisses, Anushka and Diljit’s love scene in Phillauri, tub scene in Sanam Teri Kasam
-Dholna (Heyy Babyy) is very sexy too, but I feel guilty I like this movie, when I think who directed it.
-Ram-Leela, the scene of their “wedding”

    Liked by 1 person

    • That scene in Ram-Leela really is tied with their first meeting…basically every time they are on screen together is hot. Weird that in Bajirao Mastani, that sexiness is not there for me.

“Aur Paas” moment in Dil To Pagal Hai

The song with that damn glass wall in Zemana Dewanna

No wonder he’s such a popular chap. 🙂

  11. Since we are talking about Indian films, let me add some true Indian flavour. As preteens,we would wait for Independence Day because Roja would play on TV and the whole first half and Pudhu Vellai Mazhai was truly the gulity pleasure. This scene is still too hot

Also while there were always subtly erotic movies and songs in Malayalam, there’s one true sexy movie from 80s that doesn’t get talked about often. Young, exploratory love never looked so good.

    Liked by 2 people

    • Oh oh! Paper thesis! The purpose of Roja was to make a movie so explicitly blatantly patriotic that Doordarshan would HAVE top show it, and thereby also allow millions of pre-teens across India to have a sexual awakening to Arvind Swamy.

  12. This is such a great discussion. In addition to the scenes people have already listed, I would add the preintervel double kiss in Khoobsoorat. It is just so lustful. They know this is a bad idea but just can’t help themselves because they are inexplicably attracted to each other.

    Like

  13. Hmmm me too. I don’t remember the scene in Khoobsoorat. That’s Fawad isn’t it. He is the sexiest in Humsafar and Zindagi Gulzar Hai. Both are 26 episode Pakistani soap operas. While a bit repetitive as soaps tend to be, they are excellent and way better than their American counterpart. It is on television in Pakistan so you can imagine the restrictions there are strict. There is no kissing, little hugging, minimal hand holding, bodies covered head to toe and some of the sexiest scenes you’ve ever seen.

    Liked by 1 person

    • Being a shallow person, I distracted myself while watching Humsafar by obsessively wondering when it was that they actually had sex. Remarkable that I felt like I could figure it out, based on the very very chaste fully clothed bedroom scenes, but they still managed to convey through smiles and glances when things shifted between them.

      • There are so many chaste yet super sexy scenes in both series. In Humsafar when Fawad sees Mahira in the black salwar and takes her hair down or when he tells her that he isn’t going to let her sleep all night. In Zindagi Gulzar Hai, the whole texting scene when he comes to get her from her mom’s house and of course the scene in the last episode when she finds him sleeping next to her. I may have watched certain episodes of both series a few too many times. Basically, Fawad can make any scene sexy, even a completely chaste one!

        • I’m glad I’m not the only one. I watch that scene in Zindagi Gulzar Hai when he ends up in her bed all the time, its sweet and sexy. I wish we could see more of Fawad.

I’d also like to add Sanam Teri Kasam to the list. Can’t think of one scene, but Harshvardhan was just hawt in the movie and the smouldering looks he gives Mawra!! They had amazing chemistry!

  16. So I had always thought of suggestions like Kadhal Sadgudu,Humsafar, Zindagi Gulzar Hai,SRK scenes- especially the dhoti scene in Swadesh- etc as being romantic than sexy. A sexy scene has to have some physical aspects to it rt?like the Parineeti scene is definitely sexy, not merely romantic. So what exactly is the difference between a sexy scene and a romantic scene?

    Like

    • I guess it depends on your personal taste, whether you find romance and the implication and waiting for sex sexier, or the actual act. The Dhoti scene was all about them touching and exchanging looks and all of that, a physical flirtation teasing the way for sex.

  17. I am so happy I’m not the only person to find Inkaar sexy! Except for being sexy the whole thing was a snooze-fest and I can’t even remember what happened. The takeaway for me was: these are two extremely attractive people. The same director did Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, which tried to be sexy, and the Chitrangada part is sexy, but she’s pared with Kay Kay Menon who is just not sexy in this although I can see him being sexy theoretically. There is even sort of a sex scene in it, observed through a window, and all you can see is Kay Kay but it’s really awkward. I can’t really describe it, but it’s like someone suddenly yelled “Fake an orgasm!” at him. We talked about this before with respect to Raajneeti, some directors really can’t direct sex and it ends up making you cringe. Which may actually be a good thing, judging from the number of people on this thread who found sexy scenes where nothing is shown or even implied.

  18. Maybe romantic warms the heart while sexy warms the nombril? 😊
Sexy is many times very chaste because you fill the gap between what is seen and what is suggested: in that gap all of your emotions, fantasies and dreams are thrown in. That’s the emblematic case of “Only Look No Touch”
Romantic is the scene you see together with your family, and all, starting with grandma, smile and maybe hold back a little tear; one scene for all is in DDLJ when SRK and Kajol break the fast together, alone in the terrace under the full moon.
    Romeo and Juliet laying in her bed are definitely deadly romantic;
SRK riding his bike alone in the desert of JTHJ is the epitome of sexiness…

I’m a little late , but I want share my thoughts. Here we go:

    – Gazebo scene. Hand’s down.
    – Ashoka in so may ways. I fancied SRK during all the movie. Even with the wig. I’m weird.
    – Charlie wrestling in Happy New Year: my first Shahrukh movie. I googled him some time before and I was like “He’s just a regular guy, uncle like, nothing special, I don’t get the hype about”. And then, the movie starts and mud, water, TEN PACK, and I was like “WHAAAAAAAAAAT? WTF is happening????” *faints*
    – Dard-e-Disco: “I’m laughing my *ss off, but maybe I will replay…”
    – “I don’t want these friendly hugs” in JTHJ.

    – “I want you and not you mom” in JHMS.
    – Sofia moaning to make fun of Ethan in Guzaarish. It’s funny, sexy and sad at the same time.

    – Same couple: Jalaluddin sword training in Jodha-Akbar
    – Umraao Jaan’s first night with Nawab Sultan in the 2006 movie. It’s beautiful.
    – Ang Laga De in Ram-Leela (God bless you, Ranveer. And thank God Leela didn’t burn the bed)
    – Nobody remembers Paheli, but I do. I still remember it very clearly.
    – Don 2, when Roma is handcuffing Don and he calls her “kinky”. A entire movie about “slow burn”.

I’m done. And I’ve been so Shahrukh-y too. But, anyway, what I like most about some o those scenes is that they are subtle and amusing.

And Dil Se got me triggered. She doesn’t want you, Amar. She’s traumatized. Respect her. Get out.

        • Of course if you like, but I will say that personally I don’t find anything that disturbing between Khulji and Malik. He was a “slave” (as it was understood then which is different from the modern meaning), yes, but he rose to be Khulji’s most trusted military advisor. From what I have read, the story of their romantic relationship may or may not be true, and original was spread by jealous rivals who thought the only was an outsider “slave” could rise to such a high position was through sexual favors.

But they say that Khilji was even a pedophile, rapist, that Malik was given to him as a child, it’s too much for me. Although the film tells their story in a romantic way (and that’s how I saw it), for me it is difficult to separate the real from the film. So, while I’m looking for more information, I prefer to take back what I said earlier. Thanks for understanding!

    – When he is staring at Juhi while he’s biting his lip in Ram-Jaane
    – When he sucks Raveena’s fingers in Zamaana Deewana
    – When he’s kissing Deepa’s hand during the auction in Oh Darling Yeh Hai India
    – When Don bites the air to call Roma “jungle billi”.

    Ok. The end.
