So, what do you think? Who is the most progressive interesting outside the box producer/studio/banner in Hindi film?
No Koffee post of Kapoor siblings? I thought one of Rhea’s answers was a potential winner of the Audi as answer of the season.

Im really sick. Kwk requires being awake and upright (so i can take notes) for 48 minutes. Ive written the last few posts in 5 minute bursts.
But yes, im not ignoring it, just putting it off.

It’s an interesting year for them, starting with a thriller and ending with an action film, and only one romance in the middle.

Anurag Kashyap for me, followed by Panorama. The most interesting and innovative films this year.
Meanwhile, Yash Raj needs to go to their room and think about what they did this year.

Yes! That was my reaction reading the Yash Raj list too. Every other studio had failures and experiments and so on, but Yash Raj was the one with the definite across the board failures in what they set out to do.
Panorama is an odd one, I can’t find any information about them, I’m not clear if they are a studio that finds projects and supports them, or one that is just sort of a behind the scenes matchmaker type. Looking at their list of films, I would have expected more information about them.

I’m very undecided between Colour Yellow and Anurag, with Ekta Kapoor in the middle too.
I will vote for Colour Yellow, second Balaji, and Anurag will be my director of the year. But it’s all very subjective e.g Ekta is on my list because of Laila Majnu. It’s the last movie from my “must watch” list which I wasn’t able to watch and now I’m obsessed with it.

But you love Mukkabaz! You have to go with Colour Yellow.

Yes, and Manmarziyaan too, and I didn’t mind Happy Phir Bhag Jayegi, I’m watching Meri Nimmo now and I prepare myself to watch Tumbbad (and Zero).

Hard decision but I think I’m going with Colour Yellow

They really are impressive, right? Aanand is a decently successful director, but as a producer he is lowkey changing the industry.

I haven’t seen enough of these to comment, have seen one or two across each studio. Enjoying the discussion though!

I will cheat and say Junglee Pictures because they produced both Raazi and Badhaai Ho, both script driven and sleeper hits of a kind. Plus they are young and are picking interesting content so far…
…and yes the YRF polish is wearing thin

I would’ve Said Phantom Films and Colour yellow productions. But Phantom got caught up in the #MeToo movement, and got disbanded, I actually have a lot of respect for Anurag for pulling the plug on the production house because I don’t think any other Indian production company would have done the same (No one knows what kind of sexual harassment skeletons are hidden in closets at YRF and Dharma). Colour yellow productions under Anand L Rai took some awesome decisions this year wether it be Mukkabaaz or Tumbbad. I hope Anurag is able to band together a replacement for Phantom films maybe with people like Sri Ram Raghavan, Varun Grover, Anand L Rai, Vikramaditya Motwane. Because Phantom films was the only ray of light in terms of quality cinema especially in the genres of True Crime and Horror not to mention how they had nurtured a set of talented outsiders. (With these posts continually praising Anurag, I think I may have become a MASSIVE Anurag Kashyap Fan Boi, lol!)

I would say that Aanand L Rai challenges Anurag in his willingness to think outside the box. Full credit to Dharma and Yash Raj for nurturing new talent as well, but they aren’t as willing to jump out of genres, Colour Yellow and Phantom really try everything.

This has to go to Phantom Films and Colour Yellow. Yash Raj was the biggest let down I guess.

Yeah, I can forgive Yash Raj for Thugs, because I’ve been disappointed in their big tentpole movies for a few years. But what happened with the others?
