Really? no True Stories at all?
And now you are making me want to watch Simmba! Some day, when I’m not super sick again and can spend more than 45 minutes out of bed.

Haven’t watched any of the true stories! (Yet)

I have watched so few in each category that I am reluctant to opine. I just watched Adhadhun yesterday and really liked it, but need to watch a few more, too.

It’s handy having this list, isn’t it? I just went through the wiki page on every Hindi film of 2018 and pulled out all of them that I remembered in particular.

Ha! I’m planning to vote for Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi too! When I finished watching it I was sad it’s over, and my brain was like: why are you sad, this wasn’t a good movie at all!? But still it was crazy and ridiculous and I wanted more.

I’m gonna put
Bhavesh Joshi Superhero
under Thrillers
and call it the Best Thriller of BW 2018,
with Pari a close second.
I’m also gonna say that Thriller was BWs strongest Genre this year, by a mile.
Were there any true conedies this year? Maybe a franchise comedy? I vote for Stree otherwise.

There were many unknown comedies this year (Shaadi Teri Bajayenge Hum Band, Khajoor Pe Atke), but from a little more famous only : Welcome to New York, Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi and Yamla Pagla Deewana: Phir Se. Bad year for comedies in hindi.

I was gonna say Golmaal Again, but that was last year. I guess Sonu Ki Titu Ke Sweety could be considered a comedy, it’s not really a romance so comedy is the genre it fits in best.

I listed all 2018 movies I have seen (11) and I realize I saw one or max two of every genre.
Best Action Movie – Bhavesh Joshi & Race 3 (Bhavesh wins)
Best Thriller – Andhadhun
Best Romance – Manmarziyaan
Best Comedy – Stree and Happy Phirr Bhaag Jayegi (Happy wins)
Best Inspirational True Story – Mukkabaaz (maybe not exactly true story but kind of)
Best Family Movie – Badhai Ho & Angrezi Mein Kehte Hain & Meri Nimmo (Badhai Ho wins)

I have seen October too, but it doesn’t fit in any category.

You’re right, the closest would be “romance”, but that isn’t quite right either.

Objectively Stree is much much better movie, I know that, but personally I enjoyed Happy much more, even with all its stereotyping and bad writting.

Best Action Movie – Simmba (but didn’t see TOH)
Best Thriller – Raazi but all the others are great but more drama, horror, and noir/black comedy respectively
Best Romance – Manmarziyaan but haven’t seen the other three
Best Comedy – haven’t seen Veere and Stree yet, DNF Sonu, so definitely Badhaai Ho for this category
Best Inspirational True Story – saw them all and Gold is just slightly better than Soorma
Best Family Movie – Badhaai Ho here as well and I have seen the other two and liked them as well

Says something about 2018 just in terms of what you watched and didn’t watch. Only one romance was worth seeking out, and only one action, but all the thrillers and true storys and family movies were worth watching.

Yes, but remember I still really want to see Namaste England (just like Angie:)! My love of Arjun and Parineeti could still blind me to how terrible the film is. But yes, the state of romance in Hindi films is a constant source of worry for me!
I want to see Stree and Veere and some others but they just aren’t coming to streaming fast enough and I’m trying to watch films legally. Plus I’ve read more this year (I think I saw 36 Indian films total last year?)
Did make it to the theaters to see Simmba!

Yes #TeamNamasteEngland ! Will it be as bad as people say? I can’t wait to know it. I’m watching Loveyatri now so I can compare it with NE later.

Haha! I thought the music was good from Loveyatri but I just can’t bring myself to watch it. Good luck getting through it!

Aw. I’m glad Mulk got a vote! That’s part of the reason I split up the genre categories, so the less spectacular and popular films would have a chance.
