Happy Birthday Hrithik! Which is Your Best Dance/Sexiest Song/My Favorite of Your Songs?

This seems like a happy and fruitful discussion topic, right? Especially since Hrithik has an oddly short filmography so you can watch all the songs right now in order to refresh your memory.

Okay, we are voting in 4 categories!!!!

  1. Your favorite of these songs
  2. The sexiest of these songs
  3. The best dancing of these songs
  4. The worst costume of these songs

Are we all ready? Are we prepared to be objective and serious and analytical?

Or, to put it another way, “Can you feel it? Are you with me? Then let’s go for it!!!!”

After all, he does have the “vibe that you need”

And is somehow impervious to gravity?

Club Indiana!!!!! In case you were wondering, this is not at all what Indiana is like. It is a very boring state.

He’s not even pretending to play that electric guitar. But boy those random white ladies are selling their back-up dancing!

Bumbro! That’s all, I just can’t watch it without singing along.

It’s not the best song in, really, any way. But I cannot resist the visual of Hrithik dancing in corny cultwear t-shirt.

The moths! The moths have destroyed his shirt! And then glued themselves to Kareena’s right breast and died!

I assume this is what all college proms are like, complete with the skin tight leather wear.

Amisha Patel might look better in Hrithik’s shirts than Hrithik looks in his shirts.

Have I mentioned how much my brain hurts at the idea of Hrithik-the-character dancing to a hit song introduced by Hrithik-the-actor? How does that work in this universe??? Is there an actor that looks exactly like Hrithik-the-character and no one talks about it?

Prabhudeva and Hrithik, together at last.

Aish and Hrithik, together at last.

Aish and Hrithik, sex at last.

And Hrithik being Hrithik, in the middle of the giant carnival that is fame.

His only recent big dance number, so many leaps! So much silliness! And Katrina.

Why are his leather pants falling down?

All right, ready for my vote for each category?

  1. Your favorite of these songs

“Tu Hai Meri”. I have a soft spot for all of them, but “Tu Hai Meri” is my absolute favorite cheer up song.

  1. The sexiest of these songs

“In Lamhon”, not even close to the others.

  1. The best dancing of these songs

Ooo, tricky! I’m tempted to pick “Tu Hai Meri”, but I think I have to go with the classic, “Ek Pal Ka Jeena”.

  1. The worst costume of these songs

Definitely the Yaadein eaten-by-moths shirt. The loose leather pants in “Bang Bang” may be objectively ugly, and the cult-shirt in Mission Kashmir may be funnier, but it is the eaten-by-moths shirt that somehow just INFURIATES me. It could have been a perfectly fine black tank top!!!! Why would they mess that up?

What about you? What are your votes?

    • I can’t remember if it was you or Filmilibrarian that floated the injury theory, but now I am thinking it is more and more likely. He had that head injury on Bang Bang and he hasn’t had a really spectacular dance number since then. He was holding off on releasing a film while the Kangana story was simmering (I think), and now Super 30 is just turning into a disaster on multiple levels (director was a rapist and had to be replaced, subject of the biopic turns out to be a conman, etc.). And he seems to be giving his all to Super 30 to the degree that he isn’t signing or promoting any other films until it is done.

Although there is still talk of the Hrithik-Tiger dance film, which would be fun.

  1. You know I was going to be one of the first commenters on this one!

    Your favorite of these songs
Hard choice…none of the older ones for sure…I only take the cheesiness from The Medley onwards…I think I like The Medley (of this list) the best because I have a soft spot in my heart for this film and it’s Hrithik dancing in traditional dressy clothes, which I always like and there aren’t enough of those songs. Plus he smolders, it moves the plot along, and it’s awesome dancing by everyone! I probably like the Dhoom 2 title track the best of all of us songs.

    The sexiest of these songs
“In Lamhon” of these, but I think he’s sexiest in Dil Laga Na hands down, plus the clothes aren’t egregiously bad and his chest is partly bare:)

The best dancing of these songs
All are great, of course, but I’ve always loved the dance moves in “Baawre” the best, despite the terrible white sheer thing.

The worst costume of these songs
Most of them are terrible…his personal style and his film styles are usually bad, either so 80s rapper/Vanilla Ice light or cheesy Jersey rolled sleeve awfulness (Kites!), but I really thought Bang Bang was a lost opportunity because the dancing is good and sexy. The baggy pants were silly.

    • Thank goodness you give this the thought it deserves.

You can pick the Dhoom Again track! It’s there! It’s just the freeze frame that for some reason makes it look like it is the other version with Aish.

Really? Dil Laga with the sunstreaked hair look?

Hmm, with your expert opinion in mind, I think I need to take another look at “Baawre”.

I forgot, it’s not just the baggy pants, it’s also the “I’m wearing a vest but it is falling off the side of my chest” look at the beginning. Agree about the missed opportunity, especially because he and Kat have decent chemistry.

      • He’s at his peak sexiness in in Dil Laga (I think Tu Hai Mera is actually trying to recapture the magic of that song). He’s the perfect kind of buffness in it and I think the sunstreaked hair was one of his better hairstyles. Now that I think of it, I really liked him overall in Senorita…he should do more songs that have Latin rhythms.

        Just look at him here…https://goo.gl/images/Zxyfs5

        • Plus in this song you have the added bonus of Abhishek looking completely awful opposite Hrithik (at least he got the girl off-screen) and Uday and Bipasha are having a fun time, too. Aishwarya’s outfit is terrible but her dancing and posing is, as usual, just as good as Hrithik’s.

        • Presumably Kites also had Latin Rhythms, but I don’t know of course because why would I have ever watched Kites?

  2. I have seen only few Hrithik movies in my life so I don’t know much but my favourite is Medley and I think Hrithik is very sexy in Dhoom Again.
Worst costumes – so many but I personally hate his look in Ek pal ka jeena (I’m so glad those days of ugly western costumes and terrible overacting are gone)
Best dance – Being honest I’m not a big fan of Hrithik’dances. I know he is one of the best dancers, but I think choreographers don’t know how use his talent and it’s always the same routine for me: rubber-man moves, some jumps and hips forward. Maybe that’s why I appreciate Mein Aisa Kyun, because it’s little different.

  3. I mean, sexiest Hrithik is Hrithik covered in tomato, obvi.

Worst costume goes to Baawre because not only the see-through black shirt with the shrug and the weird baggy pants, but then they go through the trouble of a costume change to…see-through *white* shirt with white pants and now a spangly shrug (I had a sweater like that). I hope that’s self-aware parody on some level!

He is a good dancer, but I agree with Angie that his gifts are not well utilized most of the time. This is a weird choice but I’m going to go with Main Aisa Kyon Hoon for best dancing. If you can get past the hair, the Bob Fosse/mime vibe works really well with the physical expressiveness and crazy flexibility of his body, it shows off what he can do that almost no other star could pull off so well. Dhoom Again would be second choice, it starts off well because it uses the some of the same vocabulary, but then it’s back into repetitive thrusting and posing with a bunch of back-up dancers.

    • Agree about Sexiest Hrithik, in that I think he has a hard time playing with his scene partners some times, gets too far in his own head. And for “sexy”, you really have to be present and interacting. Kat is one of the actresses that seems to be able to break through with him somehow, so Ik Junoon is good not just for shirtless Hrithik in tomatoes, but because he seems truly excited to be with the woman he is with.

What I love about Main Aish Kyu is that Prabhudeva can also tend to get into a limited group of dance moves, but here we have Hrithik doing the Prabhudeva dances in a Hrithik way, and it is something new for Hrithik, and also something new for Prabhudeva.

      • Part of the disengagement with scene partners looks like the other actors not being able to keep up with his dancing. You can see in Dhoom Again the moves get simplified once Aish joins. Shahid is maybe better at sublimating his moves to blend with partners, Hrithik is so tall and long-limbed it’s like he struggles to make himself smaller and to contain his energy and expressiveness. This can come off as overdoing it when he’s next to other actors. Katrina comes closest to matching him in size and skill. Her style is a little more elegant but she can keep up with his pace.

        • I feel like Hrithik sometimes has the opposite problem in dialogue scenes. Maybe because of his stutter, he is very slow and careful with dialogue delivery and if his scene partner pushes to fast, he gets left behind. With Kat’s language problems, they kind of meet in the middle.
