Happy Saturday! I have no clean clothes. So I will write this thingy, then throw on sort-of clothes and walk the dog, and drive to the laundromat.
There are three stories out there that I don’t particularly want to write a whole Thing on, but I think we can still talk about!
Arth Remake
Remaking Arth is a terrible TERRIBLE idea! How can you remake a sensitive autobiographical story? On the other hand, Revathy is directing, and I love her. And her National Award Winning movie was all about women’s desires and quiet lives and stuff, very Arth-y. But still! Remaking Arth? Oh, and casting Jacqueline Fernandez in the Smita Patil role? Ayushmann Khurranna in a Same-Sex Love Story
Well, this is fun! Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan is supposed to be about Ayushmann falling in love with a nice young man from a village. I am hoping for hijinks as they return home and his family tries to organize a traditional wedding for them. This is the plot I have been waiting for someone to make, just because it is such a great twist on the traditional “wedding” story.
PC and Nick Announce Talent Contest Show
“One Week to Sangeet”, supposedly. I’m not even sure I am understanding the concept, something about finding all the talented people by seeing what they would perform at a Sangeet? And I am also not 100% sure this is a real story, it is popping up in the oddest places. Oh well, talk amongst yourself and decide what you think.

I think you should spring for that clothes washer that hooks up to your sink. Laundromats suck! Just my opinion, with no idea of your finances or the layout of your kitchen. 🙂

My big concern with the washer that hooks up to your sink: getting it up 3 flights of stairs!!!! My friend who has it was very casual about the UPS guy surely being willing to bring it to my door, but I am less casual.
Anyway, today was lovely because I am at my family place in the country, the laundromat is really really nice (clean, good machines, nice people, lots of chairs), and the house has a drive way and a first floor and a clothesline, so instead of parking a block away and lugging a big bag of clothes down the street and up three flights and then draping them on every available surface, I just drove into the driveway, carried it 20 feet into my bedroom, and put the wet clothes right from the car on to the line. HEAVEN!!!! I may do laundry two or three more times before I leave, just for the joy of it.

Did you or anyone happen to see Gordon Ramsay’s Great Escape? It’s a series of shows where he travels to foreign countries to study their cooking to duplicate it in England. It’s on Amazon and I accidentally ran into it last night looking for something else. I watched the three India episodes like an accident on the Thruway; horrible but riveting. When they were over, I sat back in my chair downright pissed. The show is supposed to be about indigenous food, but Ramsay hogs the screen and makes it about himself. He hugs and tries to kiss embarrassed Indian women in their homes, going so far as to remark on one’s anatomy. He shoots off condescending one-liners to men who don’t speak English and disingenuously asks his so-called good friends, Indian food writers, chefs and one “high-class nawab” to praise his food. He commandeers services (cars, restaurants, home kitchens) as if he has the right, and then complains about them. He’s boorish, condescending, and generally behaves as if the Brits never left India. I’m not a fan of Gordon Ramsay so I guess that colors my review. I was also in a bad mood because I couldn’t find the show I wanted, and the subtitles they have for Aurangzeb still belong to Ek Tha Tiger. But really; Ramsay’s cringe-making is epic.

Oh, yes I watched it some time ago, but I completely ignored Ramsay and only looked at food 😉 and while we are talking about it, I once made Kerala Fish Curry and it was delicious and I’m still so proud of me 🙂
For Bharat, I checked and it’s in 22 or 23 cinemas in Italy.

And yes, that sounds just awful. That’s kind of what I am worried about with the (potential) Letterman-SRK special. I don’t think he will be rude and boorish, but I don’t want to waste a lot of time getting situated in India and having the country explained to me/Letterman instead of just getting to the meet of the show.

I read Bharat is screened in major italian cities, and not in some odd, little cinemas but in multiplexes. I was super excited and decided I will go, but unfortunately sicilian theater doesn’t show it 😦
But the good thing is, this is second big Indian movie after TOH to be screened in important cinemas here.

That’s really interesting! I wonder who has the European rights? I was surprised when I saw it that the distributor wasn’t a name a recognized, seemed to just be a smaller company.

I think Letterman in leagues away from Ramsay. For one, he’s not a Brit with all the Sun Never Sets baggage to deal with. And he’s intelligent.
