It’s the end of theme weeks! Along the way I managed to catch up on some movies which means I now have enough to write a new Malayalam, Tamil/Telugu, and classic film review for next week. Woo-hoo!
Wednesday Malayalam 9/18: Uyare (Netflix)
Do you want to see a movie about an acid attack survivor? Probably not. But if you do want to, you can watch this movie. Or, just read my review.
Thursday Telugu 9/19: Nenu Naa Rakshasi (Hotstar)
This is a weird weird movie! I can’t honestly recommend it, and yet I find it fascinating to think about. Don’t watch it, but check my review and tell me what you think.
Friday Classic 9/20: Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani (Netflix)
I was going to do No One Killed Jessica, but then I decided to take pity on us all and actually do a FUN movie for Friday! Be grateful!
Sunday ReRun 9/22: Jodha-Akbar (Netflix)
It’s just such a lovely movie! Lovely message, lovely to look at, you should all watch it. Or rewatch it. And I am giving you an excuse to do it!
Great choices! Can’t wait to hear your take!!

Why would i *Not want to * watch a movie on acid attack survivor? That is a rather harsh assumption that I woud probably not want to watch it.
And I did watch it and it is a movie that got its feminist politics nailed.

I think you misunderstood. Many of my readers here spend their days actually working on social issues full time one way or another. They look for escape from that in their fiction, it’s why they gravitated towards the light-hearted world of Indian film. With a movie like Uyare, I’m not going to tell anyone to watch it if they don’t feel up to watching it and would rather watch something fun.

Oh… Then I am sorry for taking offence on the behalf of uyare. ..
I am on a mission to make maximum people see Uyare, not because of the acid attack story line but because of the govind character. Most of us here have a govind in our lives

YES! That whole Govind relationship is the main reason I want to write about it. Her father’s line of “I’m tired of watching my daughter’s smiles go away”? That was spot on.

Govind is Asif Ali character?

Yes, and Asif does his usual excellent job performing whatever the film demands. And this time, it demands him to be extremely unpleasant.

I don’t know why Tovino’s movies are so hard to find. He is doing one movie after another. In the last 12 months he released 10 movies. I managed to find only 4 of them (Maari 2, only because it was Dhanush film, Lucifer because it has Mohanlal, Virus and Ente Ummante Peru). Where all the other movies go? There aren’t even on Einthusan. I want to see Uyare but italian Netflix nor Einthusan don’t have it 😦

I think einthusan might be DVD based? Wouldn’t be surprised if fewer and fewer movies are getting DVD releases. And let’s be hopeful, maybe it’s also because Italian Netflix is holding off a bit but will suddenly have it to surprise you one morning.
