Shahrukh Summer/Happy Birthday Kareena: Which is Your Favorite Kareena-Shahrukh Song?

They are an okay onscreen couple, although I still find them more like brother and sister than a romantic couple. However, they are really well-matched in songs! Both with moderate dancing ability but a lot of hard work and energy onscreen.

First movie together! Asoka, with Kareena still in baby fat and Shahrukh playing the dangerous warrior brought in by her spunky innocence. They have a sexy in love song, “Roshni Se”.

And they have a flirty in the market place song with bright colors and eyes meeting, “O Re Kanchi”

And of course there is the stalkery first meeting! “San Sanana”

This was followed by Shahrukh playing her big brother in K3G. Only one song together, the big family number “Bole Chudiyan”.

Next time they were together, it was very much NOT a family occasion, Kareena seducing him in “Yeh Mere Dil”. Kind of a weird redo of the Asoka songs, once again she is the innocent sexy young thing enticing the dangerous Shahrukh, only it’s much darker from both sides.

I must not be the only person who likes Shahrukh and Kareena in songs together, after the one off in Don they have another one off Billu, “Marjaani”

And then a return to being official co-stars in a movie with a really great dance soundtrack, Ra.One. Before the movie came out, “Chammak Challo” was the biggest news, and it is great and fun.

But “Criminal” was the little surprise bonus treat, a dangerously catching little tune.

And when I listen to the soundtrack, it is “Dildara” that I love the best.

Huh. Looking at these as a whole, there is kind of a pattern to them. It tends to be a dynamic of Kareena dancing harder and more while Shahrukh admires. And there is still the feeling of her being fresh and young and him being enticed, even in “Marjaani” she is the enthusiastic actress while he is playing the somewhat blase but hard working actor.

Anyway, my favorites! Ranked in order:

“Chammak Challo”

“Bole Chudiyan”

“Yeh Mera Dil”

“Criminal”

“Dildara”

“Marjaani”

“San Sanana”

“O Re Kanchi”

“Roshni Se”

Now, what are your favorites? What feels special to you? What do you like?

      • Chammak Challo is something special. Even just the trailer I remember watching on constant rotation, that alone was special.

    • Awww, Bole Chudiyan is so low! But glad to see that you also put Chammak Challo and Yeh Mera Dil high.

What makes Roshni Se better than the other Asoka songs for you?

      • I LOVE Bole Chudiyan! I posted it lower because when I made my “chart”, I was more thinking in the lines of Kareena / SRK chemistry in the song and since they don’t really dance together, it’s lower. The song item is so good, it almost tells the entire story of the film.

Roshni Se feels very artistic to me. The scenes and how they were made have a certain kind of visual sensuality. I think I just really like the composition and I find their “chemistry” the best in that song. And it’s better than the other Asoka songs simply because I haven’t fully seen the other two, so they have to take a backseat (for now).

Mera Dil is #1 because it has the most “dangerous” appeal to me. I like the dynamics between them in this song so much. The constant push and pull and shoving away. It’s a game. I like seeing both play it in the way they do. I buy it.

Buuuuuuut, Chammak Challo would have normally been #1 simply because I just love, love, LOVE SRK in it. I love how he dances, love the girl getting shocked by him, enjoy the elderly gentleman “hip-thruster”, really like Kareena’s dancing bits and facial expressions, just everything about this video, really. The choreography is different than most of what I’ve seen with SRK in it, not better or worse, just different and cool.

        • I love Shahrukh in Chammak Challo too! We were just talking on the other post about how Hrithik has a kind of ease to his dancing now that he is older. That’s what I feel in Chammak Challo too, Shahrukh isn’t leaping around any more, but it’s fun to see him just grooving along.

  1. I love all ShahRukh songs with Kareen – for different reasons (a already talked about here). At the end of the range would be Bole Chudiyan because it is more of a Hrithik-Kareena song, then I would ‘rank’ all the Ra.One ones (because of their relation ship) and then the Asoka ones (because of their attraction to each other)…and after that the Billu one as it reflects the star power ShahRukh has to convey in this movie.
As I could watch them both together at the Temptation Reloaded 2008 show in Dubai, their dancing together – I feel – is more of transporting sexuality than love.

    • There aren’t as many songs with them as I thought, but they are all really good! I don’t know if it is their chemistry, or just that they are both good at picking really good songs.

  2. Chammak Challo is by far my favorite, and the K3G one is my least favorite, partly because I hated Kareena in the movie, and partly because I find that particular female singer’s voice grating. I accept that this is probably because I’m a westerner, but I can’t really help that.

  3. Marjaani is far and away my favorite. Just so much fun, and they look like they’re having fun together.

After that I’d say Roshni Se, then Chammak Challo, then all the others are kind of at the same level. Pleasant, but not amazing.

In my house we call Ye Mera Dil “the flappy duck dance”. I know the choreographer was going for Helen-ish moves, but they really don’t work for Kareena. And I don’t think Shah Rukh is that great at songs that are aggressively sexual. He’s so much better at gently or playfully seductive.

    • Well, now all I will be able to see with “Yeh Mera Dil” is flappy duck!

I need to rewatch “Marjaani”. I haven’t watched it that much because, for me, I usually enjoy songs if I enjoy their place in the movie, and Marjaani is so removed from the film that I don’t really rewatch it.

      And yaaaay! Another Chammak Challo!

  4. I love Yeh Mera Dil, because for one thing she looks super hot in it, but also because she somehow looks like she could break SRK in half, which is great. None of the others have this element, even though I think they pair well together.

    • Now I’m trying to think of other songs where the woman seemed tougher than Shahrukh. I can’t remember any, but this is my favorite non-Shahrukh option for that feeling:
