Sorry, another descriptive post! But you still have the tuxedo post from yesterday to dream over if you want.
- The moment in Baadshah when he learns Twinkle’s brother died and suddenly changes from the humor and action of it all into sincere sympathy and love for her.
- The moment in Chalte Chalte when he looks up and sees Rani waving to him from the balcony and throws his jacket in the air.
- The moment in Chak De India when he can’t stand up any more after they finally win.
- The moment in Dilwale when Varun tells him that Kajol will approve the marriage if he leaves Shahrukh and he braces himself for Varun to go.
- The moment in DDLJ when he tells Kajol he won’t be coming to her wedding and walks away.
- The moment in Fan when he says “you wouldn’t understand” as he falls.
- The moment in Fan when he asks Gaurav to think of his parents and we suddenly know that Aryan (like Shahrukh) must have lost his parents at a young age.
- The moment in Jab Harry Met Sejal when he says he might start shouting “Sejal” to the sea, just to have someone to call.
- The moment in Kabhi Haa Kabhi Naa when he watches the heroine at the carnival
- The moment in Kal Ho Na Ho when he puts turmeric on Preity
- The moment in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai when he walks into the barn to see Salman with Kajol.
- The moment in Om Shanti Om when he dies
- The moment in One 2 Ka 4 when he “marries” Juhi
- The moment in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi when he offers his hand to Anushka to dance with him.
- The moment in Raees just before he kills Atul Kulkarni
- The moment in Swades when the farmer offers him half their last roti
- The moment in Yes Boss when he looks at Juhi during “Jaate Hai Tu Kahaan” and begs her not to go with his eyes
- The moment in Dear Zindagi when he talks of his father and we know somehow that his father is dead
- The moment in Zero when he refuses to answer Anushka’s question if he would have stayed if she had asked
- The moment in Chalte Chalte when he shows off his watch to the guard at Rani’s family’s party
- The moment in Luck By Chance when he tells Farhan to appreciate his friends
- The moment at the end of Jab Harry Met Sejal when he is suddenly overcome in the with Anushka at the end of “Butterfly”
Okay, those are my 22 moments of heart stoppingness! What are yours?
That last moment in JHMS where he holds her hands up to his eyes and then hand on the head – I literally have my hand on my heart and a lump in my throat every time (and it’s been a LOT of times.) These are great moments. I’ll add in KKHH when he ‘notices’ Kajol for the first time when her sari flies up and he turns away.

I think of the KKHH moment as the “hiding my erection in the fence” moment. But your description is a lot classier.

All your examples made me feel like watching these moments again (which isn’t possible because I would continue to watch the movie after the scene (except for JHMS…there I would watch the whole movie to count all the heartstopping moments …*chuckle*).
Strangely, I thought the same thing (KKHH, last scene of what the kids call summer-camp-song…only in other words …*chuckle*).
What are mines??? Ha ha ha! Already in KKHH, I would pass 22) But I’ll give you three:
one…from Zero…Bauua with Aafia on the not-Nasa terrace understanding that he just ‘made fall a star’ again.
two…from MNIK…on the hill showing San Francisco to Kajol…and she says “marry me” (actually the whole sequence from the moment he knocks at her door to fetch her).
three…One2Ka4…when he comes back to the kids to say sorry (with the song after that)

Oh yeah, that Zero moment is amazing! I don’t like the movie, but that moment is so good, his true surprise and awe at what has happened.

Towards the end of Rab Ne when Anushka tells him that she has changed her mind and won’t run away with him. She thinks he is Raj overcome with emotion and sadness, but we know he is Suri overcome with emotion and joy.
Love that scene at the train station in DDLJ!

Want to know something shallow and funny? For a moment I thought this comment was on today’s “gun” post. Because for me, that moment is all about “wait a second! Suri’s arms are so large they are almost bursting through his office worker shirt, how is that realistic?”

I love all the ones people have mentioned. There are so many. Here are just a few that came to mind, in no order:
–in Koyla putting salve on Madhuri’s burn
–marriage proposal scene from Kajol in MNIK
–when he takes Sam’s hand to run into the house in MNIK
–Ram Jaane when he looks at his (jerk) friend before he writhes on the ground pretending to be scared
–Pardes when he first says “yes” when she asks him if he’s abandoning her, and walks away, then puts his head back around the corner, looks in her eyes, and shakes his head, “no”
–Pardes when he says to Am Puri “people looking for the truth don’t come with a gun in their pocket”
–Bauua when he gets upset at Kat’s parable about her parents in Zero
–Bauua from when Aafia kisses him on the hotel balcony to when he pushes her wheelchair into reverse and follows her into the room
–in Dil Se when he walks past the open door as Manisha’s bathing, looks at her, then walks on
–the whole scene in the hallway with Manisha in the radio station in Dil Se
–the hamburger scene with Preity in Dil Se
–every time he betrays Deepa Sahi in Maya Memsaab, first to her face, then to others–he’s too good at being a moral coward in that movie
–in Chalte Chalte when Johnny Lever puts his hand on Shah Rukh’s cheek and Shah Rukh doesn’t do the normal trembling lips and tearing up eyes–rather looks like he’s having a hard time not breaking out into ugly sobs
–in PBDHH when he asks Juhi if she’d rather he be a man or a monkey
–Suri and Bobby drunk dancing together in RNBDJ

Oh my gosh, that Chalte Chalte scene! It’s the one I always think of with Jonny Lever, because Jonny brought such honesty to that moment, I legitimately believe Shahrukh was about to start crying just at his performance.

Yes. They connected so beautifully there. It somehow tapped into a need both of them had at the time, or just showed a bit of their real relationship and affection, maybe.

Karan talks about that in his commentary on K3G with Shahrukh and Jaya. There was something he doesn’t define going on in both their personal lives at the moment and it lead to these lovely moments of Jaya expressing mother love to Shahrukh.

I think that Jaya has a very motherly feeling for ShahRukh. One can notice that also in KHNH although it’s less pronounced as ShahRukh has another mother character at his side.
Well, I always have the feeling that those playing mother to him in the movies are giving him a lot of warmth and genuine feeling.

wonderful scenes, procratinatrix…they all would be on my ‘list’, too.
Like that you mentions Maya Memsaab. He played coward so, so well. It’s a pity that a part of the movie and the Maya actress did not match his performances.

Meanwhile I am stuck with Margaret O’Brien, Princess Margaret, and Margaret Mead and I don’t much like any of them.

Yes, Shah Rukh and Deepa have good chemistry, but she really can’t act. Same issue in ODYHI.

Dil Se when he gradually becomes aware what his attempted assault might have brought back up in Meghna. The moment in Dil Se where she says she wants a tea and how his face changes. The moment in Dil Se where he sees the car with Meghna’s “husband” approaching. The moment in Dil Se where he finds her taking a bath and the hesitation in his face and body language. The moment in Dil Se where she says she is married. The moment in Dil Se where Preity asks him if he is gay. The moment in Anjaam where the girls leave him standing alone after the chase and the look in his face while trying to control his cigarette. The look in Anjaam in the airplane when she tells him to shut up and he puts a finger to his lips. There are a hundred moments in Darr I would like to list too but it would get out of hand.

Ha! so happy about this topic! Yes, one could go on and on…so much intensity, so many hearstopping moments (or moments that give a hot jolt to your heart)

I agree! I love that Margaret created this post!

There are also many moments where tears still well up or I even run down my cheeks, even at the nth watch. KKHH (21st years yesterday) has many such moments, DilSe, too, Paheli…and so on.

Love the Maya Memsaab mentions too! Some fantastic scenes in that film. My only complaint is that there just isn’t enough SRK in it. I absolutely love these two leading actors together. I know they also star together in that Darling India film but, darn, that’s such a strange movie…
