Saturday Small Talk: I Got No Sleep, Expect Weird Posts

Happy Saturday! I had big plans to be productive today, and then things went kind of heywire (sp?) last night and I ended up with no sleep. So instead I am going to try to finish writing the posts I promised you, forgive any sleep deprivation weirdness, and otherwise just sit on the couch.

Things to talk about! Kirre requested a 101 on Waheedaji, which sounds really fun, so I will probably do that. Is there another person you want a 101 on? An old classic heroine, or a modern hero, or a modern heroine, or anyone you just want more info on?

I’m already planning a post to explain Ranveer Singh to the world

This is kind of random, but I usually do a Giving Tuesday post. Are there any organization you recommend and I add this year?

This is one of the ones I suggest giving money too, yes Nestle is kind of evil, but look at these little girls!

And finally, an unreliable rumor of the type I don’t usually report, except this time I want it to be true so much that we must all focus our energies on making it happen: Shahrukh is rumored to have signed a Raj-DK film. Picture A Gentleman (greatest film of 2018) but starring Shahrukh. For once, his incredibly sharp wit offscreen can get a match with his script onscreen.

They also made Stree, but I don’t love that movie nearly as much as I love A Gentleman

  1. If Sidharth was charming enough in A Gentleman, SRK would probably charm the pants off the entire planet if he did something like that, and I would lose my mind and be first in line for it.
Also didn’t it come out in 2017? Still one of the best of whatever year it came out.

    • Agreed! Whatever year it was, it was the best of that year. And take Rajkummar Rao in Stree, and Sidharth in A Gentleman, and replace either of them with Shahrukh and I will DIE. It will almost certainly be another flop, but who cares, you and I will be happy.

        • No one likes Shahrukh, and I can’t imagine a weird sarcastic comedy will make him more likable. Although maybe the overseas box office would make up for it? Or if he can attract the sarcastic smart college boys who made Stree such a hit? A Gentleman deserved everything in the world! And then it was out of theaters in 4 days 😦

          • So what kind of movie should SRK do to get people to like him more? I don’t want him to pander to what’s popular by doing a historical epic or a biopic, but I also feel like he’s been trying everything under the sun these last few years, and nothing really seems to be working for him.

          • Well, in a generalized comment way, not in an official article way. I just can’t picture a movie he could make that would combine the critics desire to see him do something “different” and “play his age”, with the audience’s desire for him to be a star.

But hey, maybe Raj and DK and their sharp humor is the perfect solution!

          • I ask, because you are voicing my worst fears and I suspect, his worst fears. There is a reason he hasn’t signed anything…does he just stop and go away? NOOOOOO. But he can’t bear to be trashed again…

          • I am hoping he will just reach that place of perfect peace where he expects hatred and no longer lets it bother him.

          • Can he ‘hatred’ and minor box office success? I think he’d be content with Raes success or Dear Zindagi success.

          • I think so too. And it’s also about disappointmented expectations. I think DZ made about the same as Fan, but Fan had higher expectations. If he makes small movies just to please himself as an artist, a small box office would be expected.

          • So, what kind of movie will this new rumor produce. By the way, since we seem to be chatting, I have been reading ALL of your posts. I loved the analysis of Luck by Chance and all of your Shahid entries.. I was overwhelmed with with Thanksgiving prep for the hordes to reply properly.

          • So glad you have been reading and enjoying!

My hope would be, if he does indeed do a Raj and DK movie, is that it would pick up on the sense of humor he showed in the AIB episode. The “so sharp you could cut yourself” kind of wit that sometimes turns off viewers. But might attract him a new audience in the young college crowd.

          • There is a new newspaper article claiming that he is doing the Raj and DK movie. I have no idea what I hope!

          • I still selfishly hope for it to happen! Because I love Raj and DK films and I want to see them work with Shahrukh.

  2. The Zoya Factor is now on Netflix, and I started watching but it’s so fake. It looks like who wrote it had a list of “must include” scenes and just followed the list without adding some soul. Also Sonam is miscasted (but it can be said about every movie of hers)
I’m not sure if I will continue πŸ€”

What can we read into your sharing your age with them? It’s so weird that the three of them were all born the same year, share the same surname and have become this powerful triumvirate. What are the chances?

  4. I had the same reaction to the rumor wishing it be true, though I know not to take them seriously! For me it’s Stree and Family Man that made me appreciate Raj-DK for different reasons. I did watch A Gentleman but I just couldn’t get past the bad acting of Siddharth and Jacqueline to appreciate the story. Maybe I’ll give it another chance since I see so many people loving it.
Also how do embed tweets in comments? Last when I copied and pasted the code it didn’t seem to work.
