I just wrote an insanely long and detailed and analytical post on male actors of the 2010s. But I am guessing this post will get twice as many comments and three times as many views. We all care about Hair.
No “regular” haircuts here, only wigs or things that are so extreme and different they could be a wig. And you can decide which is “worst” and which is “best” based on whatever random subjective measure you want!
Salman-Veer
Akshay Kumar, Action Replayy
Aamir Khan Delhi Belly
Shahrukh, Ra.One
Shahrukh Don 2
Saif Go Goa Gone
Hrithik Krrish 3
Shahrukh Happy New Year
Anushka PK
Anupam Kher Baby
Ranveer Bajirao Mastani
Amitabh Wazir
Shahid Kapoor Udta Punjab
Harsh Kapoor Mirzya
Anushka and Ranbir ADHM
Ranvir Shorey A Death in the Gunj
Aamir Khan Secret Superstar
Saif Ali Khan-Kaalakandi
Ranveer Singh-Padmavat
Amitabh and Rishi 102 Not Out
Ranbir Kapoor-Sanju
Anushka Sharma-Sanju
Vicky Kaushal-Manmarziyaan
Katrina-Bharat
Hrithik Roshan-Super 30
My best/worst? I’m going for Hrithik in Super 30 and Katrina in Bharat. Which is best and which is worst? That I leave up to you to figure out, although it should be obvious!
What’s yours? And who am I missing (if anyone)?
Best:
Vicky Kaushal in Manmarziyaan
Katrina in Bharat but if we are counting her, how about Jacquline Fernandez in everything but especially Race 3?
Worst:
SRK in Ra.One
Anushka and Ranbir in ADHM

I decided to make my rule be only if it is such different hair from the normal look that it could reasonably be a wig. Jackie’s hair always looks natural and great, but Kat tends to keep it straighter and shorter and darker. I don’t know if Bharat was a wig, or extensions, or just not putting in the relaxers she usually uses, but she looked strikingly AMAZING.
I was positive this would be a blow out for Anushka in Sanju! Really? That’s not the worst for you?

Anushka looks bad in every wig, but the ADHM look not only is bad, it also ruined the movie and that’s why I chose it.

Yeah, why is Anushka in so many wigs???? PK, Sanju, and ADHM.
For me, I could handle the ADHM look because it was so brief. But Sanju, it just kept coming back onscreen to assault my eyes over and over again for 3 hours

It’s so bad! It’s just so sooooooooooooo bad!!!! And Anushka is our entry character, a present day reporter interviewing Sanju, so we keep coming back to her and her horrible horrible hair and inexplicable blue contacts.

I’d never seen Shahrukh’s Ra.One hair and HOLY SHIT THAT’S TERRIBLE. Anushka’s is pretty bad too but sorry, SRK’s wig is a hate crime.
Katrina’s hair in Bharat is so pretty that I wish she’d wear it like that all the time.

Not sure if you were literal or not with “hate crime”? Because there is an argument that it was literally a hate crime, part of his whole “ha-ha, I’m a funny looking southerner who also looks darker and a little more African in a way that is super racist”.
I love Kat’s hair in Bharat, and part of the reason I think it can’t have been natural is that if that is her natural hair, why wouldn’t she always have it like that?

I was not being literal but lolololol isn’t it interesting that I chose those words? On some level the racism must’ve jumped out at me.

Yeah, there’s a whole thing with curly hair in India that is basically the same as curly hair in most cultures. Not my culture, because I am white-white, so curly hair can actually be desirable, just like a darker tan skin tone can be desirable for us white-white folks. But you know what I mean. Curly hair, variations in skin tone, all this stuff I don’t have to waste brain energy on because I was lucky enough to be born white-white, but which for other people is a constant subconscious awareness.
Which relates to this post! Shahrukh in Ra.One was totally being a “dark southerner” and the hair was part of that. But Anushka in Sanju just had a terrible wig, which we knew because her character also wore blue contacts. Probably related? Like, when they were putting together her look, they decided on the curly hair and then thought “oh, we better put in blue contacts too, so people know she is more white than dark”.

I loved Anushka’s wig in PK. I know she is an Indian Actor and hair is a big deal, but I think she looks amazing with short hair. I think Salmon’s long wig is the worst, it is basically bad stringy hair, like mine. The other’s might not look great, but was part of a character and looked that way for a reason. I didn’t see the Salmon movie, maybe there was a reason for the stringiness, but I can’t imagine what.

The Salman movie required long hair, he played a wild Indian bandit/rebel type who went to England for schooling but didn’t lose touch with his roots. So giving him the traditional “Salman” hair cut would have been a mark of his character being westernized.
But you can have a long hair wig that still looks nice, you know?

Best is Ranveer in Padmaavat, worst SRK in Ra.One (what IS that) and Anushka in Sanju. Although the contacts were so bad, the hair almost seemed okay.
Special achievement award to all of Amitabh´s terrible wigs this decade, although I loved his Jhoom Barabar Jhoom one a lot.

I forgot about Amitabh’s Jhoom Barabar Jhoom look! Yeah, that was awesome.
Finally Sanju gets the recognition it deserves.
Also, I know this may be a sign of delusion, but I firmly believe Amitabh’s hair just looks like that and, except for clearly fake stuff like Wazir and JBJ, he doesn’t wear a wig. Some men just have thick hair that doesn’t move!
LikeLike
lol have you ever seen his stuff from the late 80s and 90s? Some men just magically grow their hair back, sure.

Yes, Amitabh’s hair just grows like that. And Dev Anand’s face became naturally tighter and tighter as he aged. That is my reality and I refuse to believe otherwise.
Also, Sridevi’s nose shrunk through pure force of will.

Maybe you can help me decide if Govinda got plugs just in time or it´s a wig or both.

Shahrukh’s hair in Ra.One is one of the reasons I’ve always avoided the movie so I would say that’s the worst. But Anushka from Sanju gives him a run for his money.

SRK’s hair from Ra.One at least makes a sort of (racist) sense, since his character is a “funny southerner”. But why is Anushka’s hair like that in Sanju?????

I was able to ignore her wig because her character in Sanju was so bad! She’s a journalist but does no research on her own and just believes everything the last person she talks to tells her.

And seemed to have no context for this MASSIVE STORY before she was randomly hired to write it. Like, did she have no general interest in the world?

Anushka’s wigs look the worst just because of how fake and cheap they look. Wigs have improved so much and can look really good but Anu’s look like the cheap wigs you’d wear on Halloween that you buy for 20 bucks. It’s like they’re not even trying to fool you that it’s real.
Katrina’s hair is not a wig. They just curled her real hair for Bharat. SRK in Don 2 is also technically not a wig. They added extensions to his real hair to make it longer. The blonde streak was his real hair dyed blonde which is why we had to put up with him having that ugly thing in his hair for months off-screen too.
SRK’s Ra.one wig is a nightmare. Makes me wonder if he’s ever become a star if he had curly hair. So much of his star persona is wrapped up in that straight thick silky hair he has.
I think the only good wigs are AB and Rishi in 102 not out. They look more realistic. The others are all so bad.

Well, to be fair, I did pick the most extreme looks! I am sure there are loads of wigs that I didn’t even notice over the past 10 years.

Best – all the hairstyles in A Death in the Gunj, esp the men. My favorite is vikrant Massey, he just looks beautiful with that shag.
Most surprisingly successful transformations –
Katrina in Bharat. Who knew that a few face framing frizzy curls would completely transform her beauty to being simultaneously more down to earth and more ethereal?
Vicky in Manmaarziyaan. Who knew that Vicky could be bad-boy hot like that?
Worst – Ranbir in Sanju. I just kept cringing throughout the movie. The other hairstyles from the remaining actors weren’t that bad though.

TBH I was far too creeped out by the grey colored contacts they had her wear. Plus I was happy to see my own kind of hair represented in film for once. A narcissist’s approach to film criticism lol.

If I understood, it is not specifically about a wig, but also hair…
Best: As most of you = Katrina
Worst: Shahid, but as I seem to be the only one, I would also give a vote for bad choice of wig/hair to Ra.One (I did not watch Sanju so I hadn’t to suffer…and only from the pic, it doesn’t bother me)

Yes, wig or hair that is so unusual and unlike their regular hair it reasonably seems like it could be a wig.
That Ra.One wig is TERRIBLE!!!! And pointless, they could have easily come up with a different hairstyle (not even cut, but style) for him as engineer versus robot.

I think SRK’s hair in Happy New Year looks most similar to a style he would actually wear so that gets my vote for best.
Worst would be Ranbir and Anushka in ADHM. THe skull caps are just so bad and look like a subdued version of Saturday Night Live’s coneheads

The biggest problem I have with skull caps is that you can’t really shove down the “real” hair. So there is this odd poofy effect since the real hair is adding bulk under the cap. Just terrible.

I want to change my answer – the worst wig of the decade is this:
I was wondering why they decided to use this wig. His natural hair can’t be worse than this terrible thing. Now I saw Kuzu’s photos and I realized that he is too handsome, and without the wig he would overshadow Tiger and Sudheer.

But can you imagine how hard it must have been to do his stunt work with all that hair in his face!
