Okay, I have tried to match equal pairs, you go through and pick for all that you can, and then let me know your overall WINNER. And we will see of pre or post coital is better expressed on film.

For myself:

Kabhi Kabhi, Roja, Made in Heaven, Humpty Sharma POST is better

KANK, Paheli, Chalte Chalte, JHMS, PRE is better

So unless I have forgotten something, I am tied! Filmmakers can keep doing both pre and post coital scenes so far as I am concerned

And for overall winner, I think I have to go with Kabhi Kabhi

  1. Pre is almost always better in my estimation, but I haven’t seen all the films. There’s nothing more exciting than the tension and build up to the main event. Especially when it comes to Shah Rukh…I love love love those lead up scenes.

      • Oh yeah, that’s right. Good call! Kabhi Kahbie, the later scene, because fake greying Shashi is a FOX and a GOD and for Made in Heaven, the elevator scene, because men being vulnerable is the most beautiful thing after Shashi.

          • Yes, this is why the sad roller skating is so sublime. There are a lot of things I dislike about Junoon (like mistaking Stockholm Syndrome for love), but one thing I do like is Shashi being tongue-tied and made stupid by his perma-boner and Jennifer’s character steamrolling his character all the time. Better than any sex scene, for sure.

          • I love that Jennifer and Shashi gave her the mother-in-law role because it is the far far juicier part, even if it seems worse on paper.

          • If Salman was capable of laughing at himself, that would be perfect.

            Forget the happy rom-com set-up, our hero is a big powerful gangster. He sees a beautiful young naach girl and kidnaps her, but then her innocence gets to him and he decides to make her his wife instead of just his mistress. He goes to talk to her mother (a retired Naach girl) to get her blessing. The mother is horrified, because the gangster is so much older, and already married (to a woman who hates him and just married him for money). But she pretends to agree and offers to move in to his house as well to help plan the wedding. She does everything she can to delay the wedding, making crazy demands like a flock of black doves and stuff, and the gangster keeps fulfilling them all. Meanwhile, the naach girl daughter originally was kind of okay with this since the gangster was so kind to her and the house was so luxurious, but then she falls in love with the young man assigned to be her bodyguard.

            In the end, the gangster’s enemies try to kidnap his bride, but the bodyguard protects her so well they end up taking the mother instead. The young people confess their love and go home to the gangster already to face his wrath, but all he cares about is rescuing the mother.

Her mother hates gangsters and knows they aren’t simply “cool”, because her father was killed when he refused to pay protection for his store in another town. She was so young she doesn’t remember, but Tabu does. We can even have a flashback and it’s not glamorous or cool, it’s messy and violent and scary.

            Of course, Sanjay is a “nice” gangster who wouldn’t do stuff like that, but Tabu doesn’t know that.

          • And we need a scene of the hero breaking down in painful childlike sobs at one point because he is so broken and vulnerable, and then the mother seeing it and being touched to her soul and going to him and comforting him (perhaps singing a lullaby?) and him confessing the darkest saddest parts of his life to her (“my wife never loved me and I thought it was because I was ugly and unworthy of love and bad at sex”) and then her comforting him with sex.

            I don’t know how we get there exactly, but I want it.

          • The mother sees the wife be horrible to him in a humiliating way, watches him turn away and bite his fist, and then turn back and try to look tough again for his henchgoons, then asks to speak with him alone. He is still shaken but tries to be strong and asks her what she needs, and she says she needs to give him a hug.           • You need to watch New Delhi Times then. Shashi has a super cute and happy long-time couple in-bed scene with Sharmila. Cuter than the one in Kabhie Kabhie IMHO and I love Kabhie Kabhi’s Shashi-Rakhee.

  5. I thought my comment would contribute more, but I’ve only seen two movies on this list, and I’m in agreement with you on both. JHMS, pre trumps post by a long shot, and same with HSKD except post is so much better.
