I’ll start!
Watching: So much! QI with my parents, which I have decided is the idea show for Shahrukh to either host or appear on. Watched Bahubali 2 with a friend over Netflix Party last night. Midsomer Murders is still in the mix. Oh, and Mom picked a 1970s French Farce Tall Blonde Man with One Brown Shoe which was fun, basically North by Northwest but a comedy. And I finished Heer and Little Things and am just waiting for all of you to catch up with me.
Reading: I’m back to Wodehouse! Uncle Dynamite, which I haven’t read recently so it is like it is new to me. Also in the book category, coloring books! I got my first adult coloring book and markers and am having such fun.
Thinking: I’m watching Hera Pheri with another friend tomorrow and I sold it as the gayest movie ever and now I am worried I oversold. I didn’t, right?
Listening: Writing about Imtiaz got me back to his soundtracks. I forgot how much I love the Socha Na Tha soundtrack.
Now, question for you! Tomorrow is Main Hoon Na’s Sweet Sixteen, what posts should I put up to celebrate?
I already have “best costume” and “best dancer” locked and loaded. Is “best songs” something we care about? What else?

I am watching it now for the same reason, moving on to Piku next. It is just so tragic to lose such a talented actor and just a humble human being among all this chaos in the world. It was like a punch to the gut.

And what do you think about the fact that Murali Sharma’s character wasn’t jailed for killing the nurse? I couldn’t understand why nobody cared about her.

Because Murali is a Father and a Man and therefore nothing he does is bad. That movie was very frustrating.

20 years later, nobody bothers about a poor nurse, esp. if she has no family.
Not that I support the director here – Trivikram takes those kind of film-liberties a lot – and thinks he’s creating a magic. This could be observed in most of his movies – people should be at right moment at right place – in Ala.., A Aa, S/o satyamurthy, Julai, Athadu

I have watched absolutely nothing since Monday, because I’m swamped with work. Now I’m trying to find the best swoony Irrfan movie to watch as a tribute though. Maybe it’s Qarib Qarib Singlle for me. He was super hot in that. Though obviously Lunchbox was also swoony.

Have you watched Karwaan? If you haven’t and want to try something new, check it out. He isn’t the lead (that’s a handsome connected young actor, obviously), but he has a million great lines and even a romance. And he wears Pathani suits the whole time.

Does Netflix Party actually work? I tried it once with a friend at the beginning of quarantine and it was fun until I had it paused for almost half an hour and his kept going. Did we do something wrong?

Oh that kind of thing happens with me all the time! Just be prepared for it, and it’s fine. So my friend will text “wait, something went wrong” and then I shut it down and start up fresh and email them a new link. Just have to have a secondary method of communication, and be ready to start fresh with a new link.

I watched my first Gujarati movie ever – Luv Ni Love Storys. It was so boring! On Wikipedia and Prime the plot descriptions says:
“Luv goes through various stages of his life and many of his relationships. In pursuit of the true love of his life, he ends up leading himself into a roller-coaster ride of multiple relationships”
Nice description, but the truth is there weren’t any roller-coasters, he was in love only 2 times (I guess it’s more than 1 so can be called multiple), but the first girl didn’t even know he loves her, and the second didn’t want to see him again as soon as he confessed his feelings. So, in my opinion, he was in 0 relationships. Later he met a girl in an arranged meeting and after some time married her. The arranged marriage part was the best and had a few nice moments but all the rest was a giant bore-fest.
I think I only managed to finish it because I read the main actor started his career with an odd little movie “Your Emotionally” shown at LGBT film festivals and I was curious how he is.

I watched the Netflix series Queen Sono – it was the OPPOSITE of Heer, lots of action – worthwhile viewing. Not that Heer isn’t worthwhile viewing, but I need to get out my knitting needles to finish that series. My spouse is watching Schitt’s Creek, and I watch that with him sometimes. We laugh uproariously, but then a scene will make me feel uncomfortable and I leave to watch Allu Arjun dances on YouTube, or Parugu, again, and again, and again. At this moment I’m trying to watch Love Aaj Kal 2020 – but I’ll get to an intense scene and think, gee, I wonder what is on FaceBook/The Washington Post/dontcallitbollywood RIGHT NOW. I started and stopped watching the movie three times during the dinner scene with the parents. Hopefully I’ll be able to get past it after the kids are in bed tonight.

This is my problem with Schitt’s Creek! I really want to watch it with my parents, because 80% of the show they would love. But that 20% is so awkward, I don’t know if it is worth trying.

Anyway, what I was saying is that there is a sudden leap forward after that dinner scene, thank goodness, so you don’t have to sit in that stress. You get through it and then the plot moves on to other stuff.

I know what you mean, I’m having trouble finishing things lately too. It’s not like me, I usually make fun of my husband for checking out three minutes before the end of a scene or movie. I start articles and stop halfway, start series and wander off, start movies and get distracted…

I have been doing a lot of coloring. I can’t even concentrate enough to sew or knit, I’m just coloring in little pictures. but it’s soothing, so why not?

I had so much to say over the weekend and the last couple of days I just crashed and went to bed before I even started my late night viewing shift. Well, I did finish watching Babylon Berlin with my husband, that was one we could both get into, although it’s dark and a little over complicated. And always dangling the final plot payoff just out of reach. Amazing setting and time period, though. Then we were out of episodes and I convinced him to try Family Man, only a couple of episodes in but liking the family drama meets action part. The jihadist bad guy plot makes me squirm a bit but too early to tell where it’s going.
But…the weekend family movie I chose was Little Shop of Horrors and this one was a big success. OK, the kids did hide in the bathroom twice, but that just shows how much they were into it, right? 🙂 I forgot how much I love this movie, it’s really one of the best modern film musicals. Unlike the others I’ve complained about, the filming of the song sequences is great, creative and entertaining, and the performances are all top notch. I mean, Steve Martin as the evil dentist, come on, that puts it in a special league all by itself. And I have a soft spot for musicals (Annie too) that find a way to show a really hard side of life without condescending to the characters or the audience, and still tending to the joy side too.

Just heard about Rishi…saw there was already mention of what happened. I am so glad we are watching JHMS this Friday/Saturday because this is turning out to be one of the most depressing weeks that no one saw coming…especially for Indian Cinema. Ugh, why? I all I can say…

Yes, thank goodness JHMS is still there! I briefly thought “we should change to a Rishi or Irrfan movie”, but that would just be sad, no matter what film we picked.

I was enjoying his career resurgence this past half-decade. 102 not out, mulk, Kapoor& sons. I was looking forward to more from him of this quality. But he’s left behind a lasting legacy spanning eras and genres. RIP Rishi Kapoor.

On the other hand, it’s nice that he went out on a high note. If he had died ten years ago, all we would have had is some happy young hero roles and father parts. He had the time to prove he could be something more.

yeah it is weird. But i guess they realised just a lil bit later that lot of non urdu or hindi speakers watch their shows. Pakistani drama makers must really provide english subtitles.Their dramas have a lot of potential.
