Madhuri Week: Costume Time! Which Outfit is Most Iconic?

Pretty sure I have done this post for a past Madhuri week, don’t even care, it’s a timeless classic theme.

Which of these is best on Madhuri?

Which of these is most beautiful as it’s own thing?

Which of these do you personally want to borrow and wear?

Best on Madhuri: I pick the “Humko Aaj Kal Hai” fisherwoman look! Makes her waist look tiny and her natural curves shine

Best as a work of art: “Choli Ki Peeche” outfit! Love all the little dingles and dangles

Best on me: “Dhak Dhak”! I think the structured blouse look would work well on me, and I look great in orange.

  1. Hello, I found this blog during the lockdown and sincerely enjoyed the overdose of SRK fandom being a fan myself, though it did feel that you were slightly overanalyzing movies and the fan fics were very weird though your writing skills did make me buy them for a while. I enjoyed the overdose of gossip and history which was really enriching as a Indian film watcher. What got my goat was the bizarre and blatant bias against Ranbir who you ripped in one of your articles with all sorts of remarks and off hand analyses while seemingly giving an easy pass to others like Salman and Sanjay Dutt who, just to give an example, have done far worse things. You implore us to treat Indian cinema seriously, but how can I take you seriously when you’ve expressed such dislike for an actor and then review his film. Even a lot of SRK films seem to get a way easier hand at times. Even more strange is the dislike of Kamal, who is the true cinematic polymath we’ve had since Raj Kapoor. You seem to be nitpicking when it comes to people you don’t like. All this reminds me of Khalid Mohamed, a comparison no reviewer wants or even Rahul Desai, who seems to have this strange habit of putting down biggies just for the heck of it and reading way too much into the social and political agenda of a film and only then look at it as art. It’s only an opinion and I don’t intend disrespect.
BTW, am I the only SRKian who has this deep dread that Zero might be SRK’s Mere Naam Joker? He seems to be on the verge of transforming into a producer businessman with the occasional special appearance/supporting role. Sincerely he’s just as narcissistic to quickly return on screens.

  2. Which of these is best on Madhuri?

Green Sari HAHK Look. I don’t know why, but I always find this so beautiful on her. So bright, so pretty and an outfit I swear only she could pull off in making it sexy in a classy way.

Which of these is most beautiful as it’s own thing?

Devdas green dress, so much exquisite embroidery, so much gold and glitter and the PANTS! I love the handiwork that has been done in crafting it so much.

Which of these do you personally want to borrow and wear?

Didi Tera Devar Deewana outfit. Purple looks good on me and it is so festive in the most classic way.

    • The Green look doesn’t even fit her right! You can see it pulling at the waist where it is slightly too tight. And yet, you are right, it looks fabulous on her. She should wear that color more, and the tight fit makes her figure graceful in a new different way.

Blech, I hate embroidered pants. This outfit is a pass for me.

If I could wear purple, I might also have chosen that one! Question is, are you also brave enough to pull off the open back?

  3. Best on Madhuri: Ek Do Teen outfit, it’s so strange but on her, it looks cute
Best work of art: Devdas costumes, but I must admit I don’t like that green Anarkali suit .
Definitely not the best on me, but if I could steal one I would steal Humko Aaj Kal Hai look

    • Ek Do Teen is so weird! I think Madhuri is the only person who can pull it off, and only young Madhuri.

Humko Aaj Kal Hai is gorgeous, that yellow and green. And it’s tied up, so you could futz with it and change the style a little maybe.

  4. When I think of iconic Madhuri the first thing that pops into my mind is her green outfit in Chane Ke Khet Mein dance in Anjam. But then when I went back and saw it, it isn’t as green as I remember.

When I think of iconic outfit it would have to be the ones she wore in Devdas, but that is more associated with the movie than with her.

And finally I think of the white dress she wore in the Kathak Dance in Dil To Pagal Hai, which is white like the one you have pictured, but otherwise doesn’t look at all the same.

    • I love Madhuri’s white looks in DTPH, but I could only find a good still of one of my least favorite of them. Yashji was really smart to keep putting her in white, even if he was dumb to cast her opposite shahrukh.

    • I don’t like Dhak Dhak when I see just the torso bit, but seeing it as a whole, it’s awesome. And really original!

  5. The HAHK and Devdas ones are iconic, partly due to the movies being so iconic I think.
The Humko Aaj Kal Hai outfit is one of Madhuri’s sexiest looks, she pulls it off so well.
All her Devdas anarkalis are works of art and also the ones I would steal. Wish I had those when I used to perform Kathak! More realistically, I want the purple HAHK one.
I also love her Aaja Nachle outfit though.

    • The purple sari is realistic for you? Your life is so much more exciting than mine! I have no realistic use for it.

      • Why not? It’s appropriate for any desi festivity! I’m sure women were imitating that look back in the day.
I’m assuming you’re not talking about normal day-to-day outfits, coz none of them are!

        • I don’t even have a non-desi festivity that fancy, let alone a desi one! What am I doing with my life???? Forget the lockdown, I don’t think I’ve been to a wedding since my sister’s 7 years ago. Last time I dressed up fancy was for Christmas dinner, and that was just me and my parents in my apartment dressing fancy for fun. I suppose I could wear a fancy backless sari to, like, take the dog for a walk, but it wouldn’t feel right.
