This was harder than I thought! I hadn’t seen the new Mariah Carey video and it is a very strong contender.
BUT in the end I have to give it to Last Christmas, because the Mariah Carey one is expensive and looks expensive, and though the snowman with the woman’s head and the Gentlemen Prefer Blondes reference were great, it’s not 80s hair, George Michael pretending to be straight, hideous costume jewellery that is ***symbolic***, and a cut rate video that was an excuse for everyone to go skiing.

Yes! I was thinking this would be a walkover for Last Christmas, but Mariah really made a good argument for herself.
But really, LAST CHRISTMAS!!!! I want all their hair, and also all their sweaters. But I don’t want to go skiing.

Excellent point, if they had actually gone skiing, it might have affected the Foof on their heads, and clearly the Foof is unaffected. These are not people who risk wearing hats.

All I Want for Christmas is IMHO the best new Christmas song of the past 30 years, it’s fun and it makes me happy over and over. Love that she wrote it and it’s been recorded by all kinds of people and chugs right along making her millions of dollars. The version you shared is full diva Mariah, but this version has pride of place in my heart (and made me appreciate for the first time how good the song is that it’s still fun to listen to when played on classroom instruments with Jimmy Fallon and some adorable children as back up singers).
