Why mess around? We know we have to deal with this question eventually! Might as well just dive into it and try to teach a concensus.
Context is key! It’s not just that Salman posted a photo of himself shirtless on a horse, it is that he posted a photo of himself not wearing clothes to announce a clothing line, and with a horse to publicize a brand called “human”. The illogic builds on the illogic!!!
And along those same lines, we have Vijay Sethupathi posting a photo of himself holding a cat in honor of New Years (why?????), with a million behind the scenes credits attached, including “project head”, “project support”, AND “project developer”. For ONE CAT PHOTO.
YOU CAN ONLY PICK ONE!!!!!
Which makes you laugh longer, harder, and more regularly?
Salman was funny and stuff but Vijay’s photo was like a ray of happiness in the first day of the year.

Too true. The grumpier that cat looks, the happier I get.

Okay – the title is Best ANIMAL PHOTO – so therefore the cat wins. Because it is a good photo of a CAT, that happens to be held by a man (who is apparently named Vijay). Salman is Putinesk in his naked torso, and while the horse is big and bold, we are clearly supposed to look at the half naked man. So for ANIMAL PHOTO – the cat wins. BUT for photo of the YEAR – I vote Salman. I mean a photo of a horse and a naked man to advertise clothing, clothing CALLED Being Human, AND not a very good photo at that – well lets just see how that clothing line does. It’ll probably sell out.

Let me also point out, for all the weirdness and confusion that was 2020, a shirtless man on a horse to advertise a clothing line seems waaaaaaaaaaaaay more symbolic than a sort of beautifully random photo of a cat held by a man.

That Vijay photo gets more perfect every time I look at it. I mean, no wonder they needed 20 people to work on it.
Someone needs to get the calendar app it’s from, because “the mobile app comes with stunning collection of exclusive photographs of south India’s favourite celebrities in showstopping looks.”
They are not lying if this picture is anything to go by.

Do you think it is just a calendar of a bunch of different actors holding the same cat? Because that would be worth it.

Oh man. I don’t think so but now I wish it was. I hope the cat looks more and more grumpy as the year goes on.

And then the December shot is some actor screaming as the cat goes crazy on his face.

Someone give us money to make this.

Would it be funnier with a cat or a baby?

Cat, just because a baby cannot perfect that murderous look.

I downloaded the app, because i love you. It’s really terrible. Only two celebrity photos loaded, Vijay for January and Nithya Menon with a parrot for Feb. All the other mknths are blank, either because they aren’t filled in yet, or because it’s a scam and all we get are 2 photos.

Oh my god, Margaret. That’s nice of you. I hope the others get filled in. I guess it’s so the images don’t immediately get pirated everywhere.

I mean, it’s a free app. And now I will delete it.

Oh, is it? I thought you had to pay for it. I will get it and see if it works for me.

Nope, also blank. Parrot picture is also bad.

Do you think either of them was in on the joke? Salman looks very serious about his manliness. Vijay, I can’t decide if he knows how fantastically absurd it is. He almost looks like he’s trying to match the cat’s expression. Be the cat! BE the cat, Vijay!

I’m going with “Salman thought it was cool and honestly doesn’t care if folks laugh at him, it’s not even a consideration in his life” and “Vijay was in the middle of a long confusing photoshoot and just blindly doing whatever he was asked”. I picture it as hour 7, Vijay’s been standing there holding a hammer, a tire, a tree branch, a cricket bat, everyone’s exhausted, finally a photographer’s assistant says “what about this?” and picks up the studio cat. Vijay is just on auto-pilot at this point, holds what is handed to him, and makes Model Face at the camera.

We need a little context for why Vijay is standing in undergrowth with that animal.
– He has stolen a prizewinning cat and the police have just yelled “Freeze!!!!”
– He and the cat went on a hike together but the cat decided it wouldn’t walk another step.
– The cat was stuck in a dead tree and Vijay chopped it down to rescue it.
– The cat was starring in a movie about a village in the mountains. It threw a hissy fit and took off. Vijay has retrieved it and is delivering it back on set.
– Vijay is to star in a movie in which he turns into a cat-person. This is his acting coach.
– Its a story about the forbidden love between a man and his closest friend….
Possibilities are endless. 🙂

I think there is a clear story here. Vijay’s true love/mother/brother/father has been turned into a cat, and he has sworn to keep the cat always with him until he can un-cat it.

Is this Vijay Sethupathi cat?

No, definitely a different cat. Not as bit and not as orange and not as overall charismatic.
