Chatty Check In Post: I’m PUZZLING!!! What Activity Are You Enjoying Besides Watching Movies and DCIBing?

Ha! “DCIBing”!!! I love it! It’s like “being”, but with DCI in front. If you see what I mean. I may be sleep deprived, I was up late working on my puzzle.

I wish I could say that I am jigsaw puzzling because of the pandemic, but I was totally doing the same thing this time last year. It’s just so satisfying! You are doing something tactile, you are creating something as an end result, and the feel of slotting in the piece to just the right spot is addictive. Look at my beautiful puzzle! If I’d stayed up until 3am last night like I was tempted to, I would be done by now! Instead, I went to bed after ordering two more puzzles for delivery tomorrow.

Anyway, what have y’all be up to? Video games, walks, knitting, cooking, what’s been keeping you busy lately during those times when you aren’t consuming media?

  1. I get up 5’ish, make the coffee, scroll email, texts, DCIB, etc, walk Teddi, then about 7, sit down to write write, write. I had a Jan 1 deadline for NIP. RIP that. Now I’m struggling to meet agent’s demand for a finished product by March. Maaaybeee. I’ve added almost 15K words, fleshed out the characters (it started out as a fantasy adventure with pretty stock, one-dimensional characters) and I still have to get it out to my betas and copy ed. I quit about 5 to eat dinner and watch (mostly) Indian movies. Before bed, I review what I wrote, tweak (sometimes into early morning, sometimes not) and out the lights. On Thursdays, I zoom with my writers group which can last anywhere from 2 to 4 hours.
Do you have the TV on or listen to music while you’re puzzling?

    • This is the kind of thing that makes me think “UGH! I’m so UNPRODUCTIVE!!!” and then think “wait, I work full time and blog, I just don’t count that”.

And yes, I have the TV on, true crime shows and sitcoms are perfect background noise. But I can’t do anything I would have to concentrate on.

  2. Never think you’re unproductive! I often want to ask how you manage to do it all. When I was your age, I wrote, had 2 kids, multiple dogs, and a full time job but still spent a lot of time staring out the window.

    • Right now, I am waiting for a computer update to run on a work support call, answering your comment, watching a True Crime show, and also looking out the window. Because there is a MASSIVE BLIZZARD! I had no idea this was supposed to happen today! My car is gonna get all snowed in, and I don’t have my boots, and UGH.

    • Also, next time you are on a computer support call, you can picture the person at the other end working on their blog while you do a computer reboot 🙂

  3. Blizzard! And you have to walk Albie. Rain in NYC so Teddi used the pet door to the yard. It gave me an extra hour but I’m still off schedule. Which, BTW, is very common. There are a lot of days I go haywire and find ANYTHING to do but write.

    • I have to walk Albie, and I have to go down three flights of outside stairs to do it!!! Living in an apartment means I don’t have to shovel and stuff during a snowstorm, but dog care is way harder.

  4. Lots of reading, some cooking. Mostly just working insane hours and stressing out about the next few days because “DC be cray!”

My treadmill finally arrived and it set up and my water rower just arrived today, and will be set up this weekend. I am so excited about both!

  5. We do puzzles, too, but right now we’re at 24 pieces at the most. Still it’s gratifying to see how much easier they become for our baby every day.

    • I knew it!!! I knew my nephew was an inferior baby!!!! He got a puzzle for Christmas that is just three animal shapes that have to go into their proper holes. And he keeps putting the monkey in the giraffe hole and the giraffe in the lion hole and throwing the lion on the floor and laughing. And there’s your son, doing a whole 24 pieces like a champ.
