Monday Morning Questions: What Do You Want to Ask Me VALENTINE’S WEEK???

Happy Monday!!! Happy Valentine’s Week!!!! So exciting! I mailed most of my cards weeks ago, plus my special Valentine’s gift for my nephew, and yesterday I hand delivered a combo Valentine’s/new cat present, the last card that I will hand deliver day of to make it special. I have heard some people treat Valentine’s as a holiday between romantic couples, but I think that is crazy. I treat it as a “time to send nice presents/cards to everyone and anyone who is important in my life”.

Here is where you get to ask me anything from “what did you send your nephew for Valentine’s Day?” to “how does Hindi film treat Valentine’s Day?” Just keep swinging back to this post all week as you think of new questions!

Now, question for you! Who is your film Valentine? Which character is your True Love?

I’m a little too old for him now, but Raj from DDLJ is still my True Love. He’s really smart and funny and sometimes his humor goes too far but then he is sorry for it. And he likes dealing with introverted smart stubborn women.

  1. I have 2 true loves, or at least I remember 2 now:
Nivin- Giri from OSO. He is intelligent, caring, helpful, gutsy, hard working and super super hot. Absolutely perfect.
Unni Mukundan – Prakashan from Oru Murai Vanthu Parthaya. Sweet, helpful, shy, part-time wrestler, looking great in mundu.

  2. Oh, that’s too hard to choose. Krishna from Swarg because he is basically a dog in human form and will do anything you want him to, Shashi’s character in Kabhie Kabhi for being generally excellent and also hot like fire, Shabnam for being Shabnam… We will have to be a polycule.

  3. Oh I agree with Popka on Shashi from Kabhi Kabhi. That is hard to beat. But also, Hrithik from Jodha Akbar. He is smart, understanding, romantic, and also knows how to deal with stubborn women.

  4. I’ve been thinking again about a question I’ve asked here before. Why do fans post, send, and give actors picture of the actors? I can see giving an image of your fave to your fave if you have made it. But people post replies to actors on social media that are just photos of the actor, and, if they get to meet the person, they may give an oversized or nicely framed image of the actor to the actor. Do people think the actor doesn’t know what s/he looks like, from every possible angle, with every possible expression? Do they think the actor is that self-obsessed? It really confuses me.

My Valentine. I have to pick one role from each of my three faves 1. Sethu’s Kathir from Kadhalum Kadandhu Pogum–handsome, fun to drink with, a good cook, and his love language is supportive actions; Prithvi’s Aadhi from Ranam–handsome, a hard worker with a transferable skill set, generally grateful for the good things in life; Shah Rukh’s Harry from JHMS–handsome, witty, good singer and dancer, capable cook, and has sown his wild oats so he’s ready to settle down.

  5. I gree with Angie about Unni. He’s always charming.

So many stars could be my valentine… as son, friend, lover. I’m going to choose Tovino Thomas for now only because I just watched him in Kilometers and Kilometers and he was totally adorable. The film was adorable too. And yes, the Americn girl was annoying, as one DCIB’er commented. But we weren’t supposed to like her so her acting was spot on. And her transformation in the end was very believable. Who wouldn’t fall in love with Tovino Thomas?

I’ve seen him in a few second-billed roles but he seems lately to be all over thr place, headlining as sweet guy, hero cop, badass avenger of evil, romantic heartthrob, etc. Was this always the case or is the new Malayalam breakout star?

    • Yes Tovino was adorable, but what a great movie it could be if the girl wasn’t so obnoxious and cartoonish? And do we really want our adorable Tovino to marry this girl full of issues?

    • Tovino seems a bit fits and starts. He was around forever, and then kind of got noticed with Godha I think? And got rave reviews for Mayanadhi. But he hasn’t taken off since then as much as I want him to take off. Angie can say more, she is DEDICATED.

  6. Yes, she was going to be a pain in the culo, but I have a feeling he’d take care of it. Do you think they had sex in that conctrete tube thingy? In the letter he called her his wife “after what we did together”.

I You Tubed him; not much. He married his childhood sweetheatrt, has two kids, a bunch of upcoming films. Can you tell me more?

    • Angie knows the mostest, but I will jump in to add my favorite Tovino tidbit. When Kerala had the massive flooding a few years back, his house happened to be on high ground. He opened it up to a bunch of refugees, and hardcore took care of them. It wasn’t like he had the staff care for them, there was no power or running water, he was going around in grubby clothes trying to buy clean water to give to random refugees living all over his house.

  7. He seems very mellow. I’m sure he’s hard-working and dedicated, but not in a get-outta-my-way, stepping all over you kind of way. I like him even better now for his big heart. I always liked his big muscles.

  8. I saw the film last nite where he goes in search of his mother because the family of the girl he loves won’t let her marry an orphan. He plays the same self-deprecating, salt of the earth role. I really want to see him in something daring and sexy. Not a heck of a lot streaming. I’ll look for Mayandhi. Any other suggestions?

    • Guppy is a really good one. And Mayanadhi is a dangerous-y one. Hmm. I am sure there are others, but I am blanking at the moment.

    • Oh yes, Ente Ummante Peru is boring. If you want something sexier – Godha. Have you seen it? I fell in love with Tovino thanks to this film. He plays a good for nothing guy in the beginning but later grows a spine and is super sexy.
Guppy – beautiful movie and a very good role for Tovino. If I remember well the role was written for Mohanlal, so there is a mass entry and some other fun things. Reccomended.
Luca – he plays an artist with a heart of gold
If you are interested in seeing him as very over the top villain:
Maari 2 – some people don’t like his role , but I enjoyed it a lot because it’s diffrent from the usuall, like you say self-deprecating roles he usually plays (+ the movie has Dhanush and Sai Pallavi and they are always worth watching)
Style – this one also has Unni Mukundan, and it’s one of my favourite movies. Tovino is sexy but really doesn’t have much to do except looking good and being furious.

And yes, I agree he should stop playing those “I’m just a poor boy nobody loves me” roles, because c’mon doesn’t he has a mirror? He is too handsome to play village simpletons

And another yes – he makes too many movies! 2 years ago or more I decided to watch all his movies but exactly then he started working like crazy. There was a time he had a new movie every month! And majority disappear in some strange streaming sites. Or worse never arrive there like Abhiyum Anuvum I’m obsessed with.

  9. Thanks for the suggestions. I did see Maari 2 and he was way too pretty to be that bad. I didn’t believe it. I do like Pallavi and Dhanush has a wonderfully expressive face, but I can’t get past the part when he takes off his shirt to toss the bad guys in the air on crane wires. He’s SOOO SKINNY! Not body shaming, I just don’t see how he can toss anybody.

  10. Tried to think of options but if it’s one character it’s gotta be Aditya Kashyap from Jab We Met. So humble for a fabulously rich dude, respectful of women’s freedom to make their own choices, will totally cover for you with your family, can sing, amazing dancer, not only holds his own with the rowdy in laws but cuts loose with them, appreciates a good adventure, and also pretty.

  11. Oh I had been meaning to ask you, how has your meetup group been? I found it but when I saw how many desi men had signed up for it, it made me a bit apprehensive to join it because I really can’t deal with mansplaining and people like the overactive Ranbir fans. I get that my view is coming from personal experience which is leading to prejudice on my part and I should just go into it open and excited and hoping that everyone is willing to have a civil, fun discussion, but the other part of me is weary because I have been spoiled by the DCIB community and can’t deal with jerks anymore!

    • HA! You are totally right on your concerns! That was my main concern too. But so far, it’s been really nice. Two very nice non-mansplainy guys have shown up, and otherwise it is all cool desi women. And me. It helps that I’ve started picking very scary feministy movies. Not sure how tumbadd will work out though.

      • Oh that’s great to know! Thank you! I just joined the group. I will skip Tumbadd because that is not a movie for me. But I am looking forward to joining some other discussions in the future.

  12. I have a bunch of backed up old emails to get through, so I’m resurfacing this post to say that my Hindi film True Love is, and probably forever will be, Humpty Sharma. But you probably expected that.
