Discussion Post: I’m Kaput, What Are Your Cozy Lazy Day Movie Recs?

Have you noticed I haven’t been posting? I am sooooooooooooo tired. It’s that icky start of Spring time that always makes me sinusy, plus work is still busy, and I just want to curl up with the dog (or my parents) and watch soothing things.

Tonight for friends movie night we are watching Ek Ladki Ko Dekha to Aisa Laga, which is of course one of the happiest warmest lovingest bestest movies EVER. We are partly watching it because my brain is dead and I knew I wanted something loving and happy and warm, and I just couldn’t think of anything else.

What else is there? That is that super happy soft warm comfy feeling, like a sleeping puppy of a movie?

  1. I have so many of them:

    1. 90s: Hum Hai Rahi Pyar Ke, Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin, Aaina, Yes Boss

    2. 2000s: K3G, Hum Saath Saath Hai (fast forward the one scene where the mom loses her mind), Hum Aapke Hai Kaun (fast forward the sister dying scene), Har Dil aji Pyar Karega.

    3. 2010s: Khoobsoorat, Ok Jaanu, Bareilly Ki Barfi, Bang Bang.

    4. Amitabh bromance happiness: Chupke Chupke, Hera Pheri.

    5. Julia Stiles’ perfect trifecta: 10 Things I Hate About You, The Prince and Me, Save the Last Dance.

    6. George Clooney: One Fine Day

      • If you do, please let me know what you think. I think I am so much more forgiving of 90s movies because I watched so many of them as a kid but I genuinely like this one.

Also, I forgot one more – Kuch Naa Kaho! It’s so good!!! If you can find a copy with subtitles you should watch it! Everyone should!

    • It IS a perfect Julia Stiles trifecta! And then she just sort of went away, in a way that was probably very healthy for her. Oh! Looks like she didn’t go away, she switched to being in super super interesting roles all over the place. But unfortunately in things I don’t necessarily have access to (what the heck is NOW TV and Ovation?). Julia Stiles/Sonam Kapoor cross over best friends movie? Or cross over gay love story?

  2. This question feels like it should be so easy, but I feel like I’m coming up empty. Maybe The Princess Bride, Moonstruck, or Tangled? Although there’s an undercurrent of darkness to all of them you still somehow feel that everything will work out in the end.

  3. I got that warm fuzzy feeling the other day watching Arya 2, so I think my warm fuzzies are sized just for me. But I love seeing what makes others warm & fuzzy.

    • I love 1940s Carmen Miranda musicals! The Gangs All Here is obviously The Best One, has Edward Everett Horton too. But Nancy Goes to Rio is also kind of a kick, such a ridiculous plot and Carmen Miranda is so warm and kind.

  4. Moonstruck, Mystic Pizza, The Madness of King George, 10 Things I Hate About You, Pride & Prejudice (2005), Far From the Madding Crowd, The Mamma Mia’s, A Room with a View, Song of the Sea (animated movie), Some Like it Hot and Cinderella (2015). Just some examples.

    • Yes! Pride and Prejudice 2005! I was all set to hate it because it doesn’t have the One True Darcy (Colin Firth) and then I absolutely adored it and was converted to Joe Wright as one of my favorite directors forever and ever.

      • It really is the “if I can’t go travelling to Tuscany then I might as well watch this movie” along with Letters to Juliet, that isn’t as good, but it is still pretty. Not to mention that the costumes, acting, and just nature in Room with a View is just splendid. It really captures the book splendidly.

  5. You know I’m coming at you with my ultimate comfort movie, Student of the Year. Hasee Toh Phasee also made me warm and fuzzy inside, but that’s a controversial opinion. Also, anything Disney Channel put out in the mid to late 2000s. Cheetah Girls, Camp Rock, all the HSM movies.
