I am extra promoting this one because it is sooooooooooo good and I want to make you all read it so you can say “thank you Margaret, that was sooooooooo good”.
It’s a definitely “get 3 chapters in and you won’t be able to put it down” kind of book. I read it in 24 hours, with breaks to sleep, work, and watch Columbo. So start it now and I can guarantee you will be done by Sunday.
It’s about civic duty and patriotism and education and finding yourself and immigrant rights and if anyone is going to ask you to the New Years Dance. It’s also about being that girl who somehow is never invited to “boy girl parties” and never seems to understand how to talk to boys like other girls do, until she suddenly blossoms and finds her place. And it’s about Ranbir Kapoor. Trust me, after you read it, you will see The Ranbir in there.
Have I sold you yet? What if I tell you there is a sweet grandfather and a woodburning stove? Or a scene where she triumphantly changes her hair? Or baclava? BACLAVA!!!! How can you resist THAT???

This week totally got away from me and I still need to watch two movies ahead of a movie club tomorrow, so I’m afraid I won’t have the chance to re-read this book 😦 I’m hoping to get to it at some point this year, though. I love Maud Hart Lovelace, esp. the illustrations.
Also, I went thrifting for the first time in forever yesterday and I found soooo many L.M. Montgomery books, including The Blue Castle, so there go my reading plans for the coming weeks.
