It’s an important question!!!! Shashi’s birthday is only 9 days away, and will be even closer on Friday. But on the other hand, it is the week of International Women’s Day.
Women film choices:
Aiyyaa (again)
Queen (ick)
Fidaa
Dushman
Gupt
Shashi Choices:
Sharmilee
Silsila
Satyam Shivam Sundaram
thoughts? Votes? Suggestions? Strong Opinions?
We should probably do women’s week but also I wlll watch any Shashi movie. Not Silsila though, although if you do a Friday night I can probably about make the whole Shashi part and then be able to peace out after!
I don’t want to watch Queen again, which is sad, because I used to love that movie.

The more I think about it, the more I think that is the perfect way to watch Silsila.

I don’t know, I am worried you might start a trend!!! Once people realize you can do a “Shashi edit” of Silsila, there will be no need to ever watch it the normal way again.

I don’t know, we should definitely include the ending where Amitabh walks past tons of injured people, ignoring them, to save Sanjeev.

Classic Amitabh.

I am with Popka. I am not up for full Silsila. Of the movies on this list, I would pick Sharmeelee or Fidaa, and maybe Dushman. I feel like we should celebrate International Woman’s Day but I also think that March is Woman’s History Month so we can celebrate it all month. Other movies, I would suggest to celebrate women that I don’t think we have seen yet: Jhooti (Rekha is the hero. It is such a cute movie and all about Rekha), Chori Chori (with Rani Mukherji and Ajay Devgan and it’s all about Rani and also probably one of my favorite Rani movies), Manoranjan, Running Shaadi, Manmarziyaan, Akira, Damini, Satta, Pehchaan, Tumari Sulu, Anarkali of Aarah, Dor, Chandni, Naagina, Bareilly Ki Barfi, and Lajja.

It would be fun. This was completely self-indulgent, but I was trying to think of interesting movies that that clearly female centric but don’t come up on any of the the traditional lists. I feel like I succeeded on almost all of them besides Lajja.

I’m in a minority here, in the world apparently, but I dislike international women’s day. I actually got mad at the Dalai Lama for his woman’s day FaceBook post. I got mad at the Dalai Lama. That is not a sentence I ever thought I would write. Thus I vote Shashi, despite needing a watch-a-long to get through Dushman.

I think I might know what you mean about International Women’s Day. It feels like “here, have one day, and then leave us alone the other 364”. And also, it feels like a GIFT!!! Like, it’s a day that belongs to men that they are offering to women. Not a day for women to share with each other. There are so many more posts from folks like The Dalai Lama versus folks like Hillary Clinton.
In DCIB world, I will use it solely as an excuse to watch a female lead film. Nothing “feminist”, because those are sooooo depressing, but something where the heroine is onscreen a lot and has a lot of costumes.

I know exactly what you mean. Also, I kind of love that you got mad at Dalai Lama. I took women’s history month to think of what movies should be watched because they are female led but not ever thought of because they are not traditionally feminist movies. If you need something to watch while you are doing laundry, I highly recommend Chori Chori and Jhooti. I think your kids may even like Chori Chori. It has a pet stuffed monkey named Jonathan! And Rani is practically kid-like in the movie and hilarious! It’s a remake of Goldie Hawn’s Houseguest and so so good!

HHDL wouldn’t mind, Genevieve. He’s a pretty cool guy.

Sorry, Popka, I’m not a Shashi fan. But I do participate in the watchalongs in frustrated silence. Still haven’t gotten the knack. I choose Aiyya, not really a good film except for the leads, or Fidaa a good film with wonderful Sai Pallavi and her quartet of chorus boys, Tej, Rane,Chembolu, and Raiesh. (I had to look up the last two.)
