IMPORTANT QUESTION: What Movie Should We Watch for Shashi Week?

I’m too mad to think about Shashi today because everything in the world is messed up and horrible (as previously noted, Spring should be SPRING, not this back and forth spring-winter-spring-winter). So y’all get to/have to help me. We are looking for a Shashi movie that will make people happy, and is readily accessible on streaming services. So not Deewar, and not Doosra Aadmi. (also, because the world is HORRIBLE, I messed up posting this post, sorry if you got two notices)

You pick! I don’t care. I just want to end this horrible miserable rainy overcast week by looking at Shashi eyelashes.

  1. How about Sharmilee, Ghungroo, Do Aur Do Paanch, Pyar Ka Mausam or Jab Jab Phool Khile? I have only seen Deewar, so I can’t speak from personal feelings here when choosing a Shashi flick.
    I am looking at those movies that are on einthusan with subtitles.

    • Sharmilee is AMAZING and if no one else has strong opinions, I might just go with that one.

    • “Ghungroo” is so! good! When it starts you think it is going to be yet another ordinary sad tawaif story, but then the second half swerves into this very different direction that feels like pure wish fulfillment.

      Other happymaking Shashi movies that haven’t yet been mentioned:
      “Haseena Maan Jayegi” (absolutely maximal amount of Shashi that can be in a movie, very fun);
      “Swayamvar” (silly fairy-tale-type movie that turns touching and real at the end);
      “Salaakhen” (quite possibly the ideal masala movie, imo);
      And I must put in a word for “Bezubaan,” which is pretty serious throughout the course of it, but ends in a very sweet, joyful place : )

  2. OOOH! Out of the ones mentioned above, I would pick Do Aur Do Paanch, Shaan, or Suhaag for Amitabh-Shashi bromance! I love them all equally!
    Also, Pyar Ka Mausam (I don’t know if I have ever seen this movie or maybe I am just forgetting about it so it would be a treat to watch it with y’all) or Jab Jab Phool Khile (because everyone should see the movie that inspired Raja Hindustani!).

    • Oooh I donโ€™t think I have seen Ghungroo either and Kirre and Shelomit are making me really want to watch that! Tawaif and wish fulfillment sound amazing!

    • I’m leaning Shaan or Suhaag, just because they are on both Prime and Youtube, at the same length.

      Alternatively, Sharmilee which is ONLY on einthusan, but at least that means we would all be watching from the same source. And it’s so happy! And silly!
