“Under contract” meaning we still have to have the inspection and get the money together and loads of stuff could still go wrong, but thank goodness the first hurdle is over. PHEW! And now I have that suffocating “this is such a big scary decision and it’s actually happening” feeling. It’s a terrible mistake! I should run back to safe familiar ground!
We outbid the other offer by 1%, because our realtor is clearly 1% better than their realtor. And we are getting it for super cheap considering the current market, which makes me feel guilty and like I should say something to the sellers, but NO! If they wanted more money, they could have priced it higher or waited for more offers! It’s not my fault!!!!
Anyway, more importantly, I have a kitchen, a dining room, a small bedroom, a big bedroom, a bathroom, and a living room. Here’s what I am thinking: butter yellow kitchen, lilac dining room, yellow guest room, pink my bedroom, pink bathroom, soft green living room. Does that sound good? Or does it sound like I would be living inside an Easter Egg?

As long as you don’t go too dark or bright (or glossy), you can change your mind and re-paint in one coat. If you tend to change your mind a lot or have seasonal preferences (that would be me…), more neutral walls and plenty of changeable covers for furniture, etc. works better. For example, if you want red, green and white a Christmas and lots of it,

Oooo, Christmas time colors! That is part of the reason I want the living room to be Green-y, so it will look good with the tree.
My nightmare is that look when there isn’t QUITE enough coats and the old color bleeds through a little. UGH! I want to get the colors I want on the walls really really good. But yes, also probably very light delicate colors so they will go with everything and be easy to cover.

You should crate an interior that you will LOVE! Don’t listen to any naysayers…I like to keep things neutral so I can change colors with other things like art and throws and pillows, but you do you boo! I’m SO excited for you!!!!!! The most important consideration is what colors will go with your SRK memorabilia of course.

Of course!!!! My Dard-E-Disco poster is turquoise blue, so that would go well in the lilac dining room, and my DDLJ poster is dark green background, so that would go well in a light green living room. And then Bahubali swords, of course, go over the fireplace.

Yay! Fingers and toes crossed everything goes smoothly! Don’t feel bad for getting a good price, you and your friends have a responsibility to your future selves to be wise with this purchase that will set you up for a long time of stability. And jitters at this point are normal and sane (I remember thinking wait, I have to hand over ALL of my money now? and taking a very nervous trip from the bank to the lawyer’s office with the cashier’s check down payment in my bag) but they will pass because it’s a good decision.
The only thing I’ll say about color is that this last time around I took my time and lived with the light at different times of day and I felt like I ended up with the color each room really wanted to be.

Hmm. I was thinking, paint first before I’ve fully unpacked. But now I am thinking, maybe leave the painting as a treat for the long dull winter? So the excitement of moving in can last and last? Like saving Halloween candy?
And also, jitters! Yes! That’s it exactly! now that the decision is made and things are rolling, all these stress bubbles are popping up all of a sudden.

Very exciting for you and Albie! I bet he’ll love having a garden to sniff around. Neutral colours for walls etc are good – but maybe with a coloured feature wall in each to co-ordinate with posters. And then you can accessorise with pops of colour.

Congrats! Keeping my fingers crossed inspections and all else go well. I myself am partial to green rooms. An old rental had a mint green room, at first I thought ewww, but then it became my favorite room. And I am typing this in a room with two green walls, a gift from my inlaws when we moved in. They also gave us a yellow room, but I like the green room better. My house has very small bedrooms, if you paint two walls but leave the other two white it gives color with the perception of space.
We of course planned on painting more rooms, but six years later that hasn’t happened and I’m still living with some beige walls in the living room that I hate. But then I have children, and I’m lazy, I’m sure any normal person would have painted over the beige by now.
Oh, speaking of painting, have you looked into stencils? I bought a beautiful aspen stencil for our house, but then never actually used it. But I loaned the stencil to my neighbor and she used it, so when I visit her house I can imagine what mine would look like if I weren’t so lazy.

My parents bought their house when I was 1 and my sister had just turned 3. They planned to paint once they had time/energy. And a mere 17 years later, during my freshman year in college, they did!

It is so much fun to be able to draw/paint on your own walls and make them truly yours! Also, have you considered fun/funky wall papers? It was one of the most fun things we did when we first moved in to our house and it is still one of my favorite aspects of our out living room? It adds so much character to a room and you can change it anytime you want.

My friend upstairs is very excited about funky wallpapers for her place! But I like paint, feels like the walls can breath more somehow.
