I was kind of excited about being able to see new movies in theaters again, and now NO. So I’m back to hunting around for post ideas. I’m still doing Friend Movie Nights, but there aren’t that many new streaming movies that would work for Friends, so we are rewatching stuff I’ve already seen/reviewed. I’m not gonna make myself watch anything I don’t want to watch because life is too short. So I am left with “what is an interesting thing I have already seen that I could review”. Give me ideas!
I’m already DEFINITELY going to do a deep deep post on Bridget Jones, book versus movie versus Pride and Prejudice. Because I know all 3 things very very well and they all have value in their own way and I have MUCH to say.
But beyond that, I am out of ideas. Give me thoughts! I could write about Strangers in Paradise, the graphic novel series. I could write about the origin and development of the comic strip Dick Tracy. I could write about Georgette Heyer. I could write about Little Women. I could write about Gene Kelly. I could write about the American movie Love Story, or the importance of Doris Day-Rock Hudson films. Anything! Anything pop culture! Give me your requests!

Well, if you want an interesting movie to review then Aarzoo is a hoot in that department. Then there is Sridevi’s Nagina and its (looks bad and probably is, but it might be funny) sequel Nigahen: Nagina Part II. I will post more if I can think of any, but these are the first ones that pop into mind.
Also, the TOVE Finnish-Swedish film about Tove Jansson is at least now available to rent to watch on YouTube. So I am not 100% sure if it in the USA yet, but keep an eye out for it. It is delightful!

Let’s see, I have seen but not reviewed Kya Kehna, Parineeta, Dil Ne Jise Apne Kaha, and Yeh Raaste Hain Pyar Ke. So those are all good options!

You want to review stuff you haven’t rewatched recently just from memory? That’s some skill! I’m up for Doris Day-Rock Hudson films. Georgette Heyer too, I’ve been meaning to read one of her books. Other than that, it’s hard to say without knowing what you’ve already watched, especially non-Indian! Oh, I just started watching Remington Steele, I don’t know if you might be interested in that!

I’d love to see a review of Dedh Ishqiya. It has everything – Madhuri Dixit, Naseeruddin Shah, Huma Qureshi and Vijay Raaz (doing a masterful villainous turn) ,comedy, romance, danger, same sex romance, poetry and run-on sentences. . It is on EVERYTHING! Amazon Prime, Netflix, Einthisan and probably more.
And I love Georgette Heyer. Especially Cotillion, where she turns the typical romance tropes on their collective ears.

Dedh Ishqiya was one of Madhuri’s “come back” movies. She was absolutely gorgeous in it and her dancing was sublime. Her chemistry with Naseeruddin Shah sparkled. (And her chemistry with Huma Qureshi was off the charts.)

Another vote for Heyer here, plus Cotillion is also my hands down all time Heyer favorite! Loved how she brought that ending about!

Not a movie exactly, but a review of a series of movies, if possible, some of which I think (?) you haven’t reviewed yet: A Series of Sooraj (Bharjatya Movies). How do they go with the times? What might his next endeavor be? And also, a series of explanations as to why the male protagonist is always named Prem!

Going off your book-movie theme…how about a review of Suitable Boy comparing the book and the BBC series. Or Midnights Children…review the book and the movie by Deepa Mehta.
If you want to go classic then how about a book vs movie comparison of Guide…the two are actually very different and I can’t decide whether I like the book or movie better!
Or if you want to go lighter then how about a post on Chetan Bhagat’s books and all the dozens of movies based on his books…why are his books such good fodder for Bollywood? Why do people love to hate him?

But why don’t you want to read the other two books?? Suitable Boy is fantastic…yeah it’s a zillion pages long but it’s an easy read and so much fun! I might say it’s my favorite book ever..
Midnights Children is also great…but it’s not an easy read…and yes the movie made a mockery of the book

Since it’s Ajay Devgan’s birthday his Friday, I was thinking maybe some Ajay movies. I know I’ve already talked about Chori Chori but I’ll also add another one — Gair. IHave you seen it? It’s another really fun 90s movie with Ajay, Raveena, Amirish Puri, and Reena Roy! It’s a movie that seems like just a normal masala film and then it throws a couple of the twists that I did not see coming. It’s another movie that stupid critics trashed when it came out but it is so clever and could really benefit from a Margaret review. I don’t want to spoil it in case you plan to watch it, but there are so many interesting ties to ancient Indian epics/mythology that you will recognize that I find fascinating in the movie.

Have you seen Raju Chacha? At some point that would be a great watch-a-long movie, but not because it is good. It would be fun to watch with people the way the snake lady movie was fun to watch with people, but in Raju Chacha the snakes are children.

There are two of them! Yes Boss, by way of Michael J Fox’s The Secret of My Success remake, and a more wistful version as one of the stories in Life in a Metro.
If I were to write a post purely for my own enjoyment, I’d probably skip Billy Wilder and do Preston Sturges instead, the director he frequently wrote for before he started directing. Miracle of Morgan’s Creek, The Lady Eve, Hail the Conquering Hero, Palm Beach Story, so many great plot ideas that would translate SO WELL!!!!
