Happy Saturday! I have the watchalong, and then I have to go pick up new puzzles (oooo!) and then I either have to meet up with my new co-worker so she can meet Albie Dog in person (I don’t count), or come home and finish my old puzzle so I can start the new ones.
Things to talk about!
Kartik Aaryan is fired from Dostana 2! Rumor has it, because he and Janhvi had a bad break up. I am torn here. As a member of The Public, I of course have a duty to pick a side in a celebrity break up. Otherwise, what is the point of my existance?
If Janhvi was so unprofessional she insisted on Kartik being fired, then I am Team Kartik.
If Kartik said “Either she leaves or I do” and was called on it, then I am Team Janhvi
If outside observers decided Kartik was acting SO unprofessional that he shouldn’t be allowed to stay on set and fired him, then I am Team Janhvi.
Which of these do you think it is? How should I feel?

Ooh I came here to see if you heard about this Dharma-Kartik drama! Frankly, I can’t stand the guy, so I’m automatically inclined to side with the other party, can’t help it! Also, first Sara, then Janhvi, what were they thinking?!! Dharma’s tweet makes me think something really major went down and are getting ahead of Kartik’s PR when it drops, otherwise why make themselves the inevitable target of the nepotism debate again after last year? I’m almost leaning towards “just stupid”. If you are saying “Dignified Silence”, that’s not “dignified silence”. That’s saying something. I think this is a “leak stuff to trusted sources” situation, not a “big statement” situation.

Apparently there were a bunch of factors that led to Kartik being fired. One was that he started having tantrums in regards to the script, even though he didn’t before. The second was he had date unavailability. He’s also filming Bhool Bhuliya 2 with Kiara Adavni and Tabu. This also resulted in Janhvi losing anther Dharma film, Mr. Lele, with Vicky Kaushal and Bhumi Pednekar. It was the movie Varun Dhawan was supposed to do. Kiara has replaced her.

But why not simply write: “We are sorry to say that due to some problems with the dates we must replace Kartik”. Why make it so mysterious? It’s like inviting trolls.

Well, the dates weren’t the only reason. The unprofessional tantrums due to the breakup were also a factor. Unprofessional enough that they viewed never to work with him again, even through we was supposed to do another film with Dharma. Maybe they wanted trolling. Just look at this website. I think most people would be pro-Janhvi.

If I were running Dharma (as I should be), or at least their PR department, I wouldn’t even do a statement. Try to get an agreement all around to just not make a it a thing, maybe lie a little about how many days they had filmed to make it seem less extreme. If that’s not possible, do leaks. Like Yash Raj does. Little quotes from a “source”. They can muddy the waters with a million conflicting unsubstantiated stories.

That’s weird, everything I’ve heard about Kartik before this was total professionalism. Either his new fame/success is going to his head, or the failure of Love Aaj Kal 2 is making him distrust directors. The date issues I can see more easily, he was a struggling actor for so long, maybe it is hard to get out of the mindset of “take every job you are offered”.

Everyone I know has jumped to the conclusion the his character is Dostana 2 is gay and he either didn’t know when he first accepted the offer or got cold feet halfway through. They’re speculating that the script changes he was asking for constituted toning down the LGBT subtext. They’re not viewing too favourably at present

I don’t know if that is true or not, but that is absolutely the rumor Dharma should be leaking! Very hard to defend against.

I’ve only seen southern Sid in one thing but he made an impression. Sid M. doesn’t do much for me, though he seems nice and I liked him in Kapoor and Sons. I’ve had to stop myself a couple of times from snarking on his books in the Insta posts :).
