Happy Wednesday!!! I am trying to psych myself up to doing more packing. It’s just so HARD. And I just want to do jigsaw puzzles and watch TV.

Reading: The Marvelous Land of Oz! Y’all should definitely check it out. So silly and light and also of it’s time in an interesting historical way. Alternatively, read Getting Rid of Bradley which is the funnest sexiest happiest modern romance I have ever read. Also, DOGS!
Watching: Remember yesterday when I said I need 100% happy film recs? One of my Friend Movie Group people adopted a dog last week, discovered he had hip issues and couldn’t deal with her stairs, and had to take him back. If you have never been through this, you are reading that going “yeah? so what?” If you HAVE been through the “I committed to this dog and bought toys and named him and now I have to take him back” experience, you know this is the saddest horriblest worstest thing EVER. Anyway, tonight we are doing Happy Happy Happy. I am leaning either Bang Bang or Khoobsurat (modern).
Thinking: Blech, packing! On the one hand, I have a month before I move. On the other hand, I only have 3 weekends before I move. So I am torn between “there’s no time!” and “there’s too much time!” on basically a daily basis. Anyway, today I am shooting for packing up linens and Christmas decorations.

When I was growing up, my Mom always put on her Aretha Franklin CD before she cleaned. What’s your choice?

I’ve been trying to finish our Oz book because I wanted to get back to Lady Hardcastle.
I’ve been checking out Kindle unlimited, and while there’s some unedited drivel on that service, the program also suggested “In the Market for Murder”. It’s a decent little mystery with decent little British puns, set in the early 1900s, but what makes it really interesting are the main characters. The narrator is a maid to the adventurous widowed Lady Hardcastle. But while she calls her “my lady” and does the chores while the lady paints, they will then have dinner together, tease each other and go check out a crime scene. I’ve heard of less equal marriages. And since I started with book two out of seven, I now need to go back to the beginning and see if there’s any more to learn about how their arrangement came about, and what the other servants first thought of them and so on.

Lady Hardcastle looks really interesting! It’s a modern series, written by a man? Neither of which I guessed from your description!

I wouldn’t necessarily have guessed it from the book either. Well, I guess the modern bit. Even if characters like that may have existed back in the day, I’m not sure a book about them would have sold. I mean, even the maid gets to drive the motorcar! The outrage!

Oh, and just to avoid misunderstandings: They’re not actually married and do have separate bedrooms, it’s just that the rest of their interactions is very much “like an old married couple “.

I wanted to suggest Khoobsurat yesterday but I knew that if I will do it you would certainly chose it over Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari 🙂
But man, I have a movie you shouldn’t absolutely watch with your friend – bengali Prem Tame. I saw it yesterday. It’s about a dog, but it’s soooooooooooo boring and annoying. There was a shy and inexperienced guy who falls in love with a girl in the college. There is a problem, they separate and he meets other girl. He falls in love with her and asks her to live with him. She comes with her dog. Everybody , the guy included is like “OMG dog! I hate dogs”. After some time together, the girl runs away because she has commitent phobia. She leaves the dog also. Then the first girl returns but she doesn’t like the dog and what he represents, and force the guy to get rid of him. The stupid guy agrees and abandons the dog. I was so angry! And I wished them the worst. Soon after abandoning the animal, the guy regrets and spends all night looking for the dog. I wasn’t sure if I want him to find him, because he doesn’t deserve the doggie. In the end they find each other, and live happly. Good for the dog, but bad for me because I lost 2 hours of my life watching this stupid story.

I started watching Sarraindodu last night becuase einthusan finally got it with subtitles. Usually I love the fight scenes, but they are so stylized in this movie they are comedic (in a way I don’t think the director was going for), but there are some awesome songs.
I was trying to watch Ajeeb Daastaans, but the kids kept coming in and well, I read the spoiler review, and didn’t want to watch it with them. The actress who plays the maid is STUNNING.
I also started watching Netflix’s Shadow and Bone as I read some of the books (which were GREAT) – It was exciting to see beloved characters on screen, and also kinda a let down.
A read Convenience Store Woman, a novel translated from Japanese. I finished it in a day. Not a perfect book, but a great one all the same. And I yelled at the people I bought the second space opera book from because it still hasn’t come.

I love the maid actress! She was in all the Luv Ranjan movies and had some great roles and great performances, but she seems to be having a really hard time getting hired by anyone else. Probably because she is an outsider in the industry, from a poor background, and a minority. But she’s so GOOD!!!

I just saw a nice movie – Tuesdays and Fridays.. It doesn’t have great reviews but I liked it because it was cute, romantic, colourful and everybody in this film is pretty, has great hair and beautiful clothes (it is produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and it shows). It also has Aashim Gulati. I have a soft spot for him since Tum Bin 2. It was nice to see him on screen again, even if he is the only person with stupid hair here.

What do I know this lead actor from? It’s his debut but I absolutely have seen him somewhere. Oh well. Maybe it was just instagram. Would I like it? I like the hero, heroine is cute, story doesn’t appeal to me much I have to say.

He is Poonam Dhillion’s son. I have not seen him before but he had a look about him that made me think I had.

I’m not sure if you will like it. They are cute and lovely and there is also one gay character (but he is like 10 minutes on screen), but the story is very simple and both protagonists aren’t good actors. It’s definitely much worse than Malaal.

Hm. I’ll give it a try but it doesn’t seem extreme enough for me.
Speaking of which, I finished Uppena and wow. I thought it was fine and then the ending hit. I really wish they’d leaned into the masala earlier in the movie, now it’s normal normal normal INSAAANE. You guys were also right that the way they wrapped up the father plot was stupid. I mean, I liked it but mostly because of the ending though.

Yes, the ending makes the movie different from others. I’m surprised Panja Vaisshnav Tej chose this role as his debut. He is Chiranjeevi’s nephew and could choose any other script but he risked with Uppena. I admire him for that.

Yes it’s a risky move. I wasn’t entirely convinced by him as an actor but I respect him for that.

I enjoyed it too. There was some really bad acting but it was cute and harmless and a good one-time watch. Also, I was shocked that it was a Bansali Production.

Currently watching 3 Idiots for Vappu, the Finnish spring celebration for students who have graduated high school – we get a white cap for it, workers, and just celebration stuff. Might watch YJHD next or something else. I’m in an Indian movie binge right now.

Also, have you seen this? It’s Nora’s newest music video (not her singing though) and the plot is like something straight out of a Turkish drama.

in terms of 3 Idiots, I should clarify that I think of it more as an Aamir film (same with PK) than the director who shall not be named. First time watching it as well so I need to take it off my movie list.
