3 Lesbian Film Trailers!!!! Which is Your Favorite?

Thank you RGV for cheering us up with your terrible terrible movie and terrible terrible trailer! It’s so bad, I can’t even find it offensive.

RGV’s vision of The Lesbians

The wholesome-er version

Can’t find a trailer for Snegithiya, so making do with a song

Which of these is your most enjoyable version of Lesbians?

I think the first one! Just because it is so LESBIAN in all caps. The other two, I have to explain to people “no, see, even though they just hold hands, they are in love. And yes, it is an all girl’s school, but I really think these two female best friends are more than that!”

  1. Section 377 might be repealed, but dehumanising lesbians and presenting them as objects for the male gaze is apparently forever. I mean, I have a fairly high tolerance for exploitation but it’s not the 1970s and even for the 70s this would have been extremely creepy.

Though can you IMAGINE if ELKDTAL suddenly had a rape revenge crime spree in the middle?? Honestly, I wouldn’t say no.

I like Snegithiya best, it’s cuuute.

    • And SECTION 377 DIDN’T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH LESBIANS!!!!! This bothers me so much and I know I shouldn’t be that pedantic. But it was a SODOMY thing!!!! It was an excuse to round up or blackmail men cruising in parks. Or do weird sting operations by putting cameras in people’s bedrooms. NOT A LESBIAN THING!!!! Sigh.

      • While, I understand where you are coming from Margaret, saying section 377 had nothing to do with lesbians is a bit inaccurate to me.

The law stated, “Unnatural offences: Whoever voluntarily has carnal intercourse against the order of nature with any man, woman or animal, shall be punished with imprisonment for life, or with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to ten years, and shall also be liable to fine. Explanation: Penetration is sufficient to constitute the carnal intercourse necessary to the offence described in this section.” Yes, the origin of the law was based on British sodomy laws that excluded women (unless of course they were engaging in “unnatural” acts with men) because oh geez everyone knows women don’t have any sexual autonomy. (Extreme sarcasm for anyone who misinterprets this). And yes, I also agree that the law was used mainly against men.

However, Menaka Guruswamy and Arundhati Katju specifically argued before the Indian Supreme Court that 377 applied to not only to gay man but also lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and heterosexual citizens. Therefore, it was a violation of, among other things, privacy, which is a constitutional right under Article 14 of the Indian Constitution. Hence, the Supreme Court’s ruling among other things stated that all private consensual sexual acts between adults were legal including homosexual one.

Maybe I am now being overly pedantic, but I guess I am sensitive to people saying 377 had nothing to do with lesbians because it was brought up quite a bit after the ruling to the attorneys who argued this case, who also happen to be lesbians and it is something they had to needlessly continue address.

  2. Again – who is giving RGV the money for this movie?? Is he self-funding this stuff? Has he convinced some financer/bank that this stuff is worth investing in?? Is it funded by one of his underworld friends?? I am so confused

P.S. I am a professor in a Business school…that’s why I am always curious about the money/finances of any project!

    • I think he is self-funding! He makes a ton of movies each year through his production house, Hindi and Telugu, and they are all so low budget that he just needs one modest hit to finance a whole other year of movies.

      • That’s actually a really smart strategy. And he gets full freedom to explore his “creativity” and indulge his deepest desires.

    • If I say that I can imagine a sleazy kind of guy who’d actually pay for that kind of movie if no one’s watching – does that then mean that I “hate men”?

Wow, even their movement look really, really wrong.

  3. What the HECK did I just watch???!!!! Why did I watch this?! Why is RGV so gross!!!! I think I physically shuddered watching the trailer and then of course immediately sent it to my sister and cousin who both adamantly declared that they are never forgiving me for subjecting them to this. While I have not seen Snegithiya, that song was great.

I am not going to go watch my favorite lesbian song. Rekha and Aruna Irani at their finest!

    • I shared it with my whole work Slack! In a professional and proper way, of course. And then they were all mad at me. One person in particular pointed out that there are lion roars all over the soundtrack, but then NO LIONS! A bait and switch!

And you buried the lead, that is not just an awesome Lesbian song, it is an awesome Lesbian song WITH SHASHI!!!!! All the things the ladies love.

  4. I’m just now catching up on this and I too now have to wash my eyes out with soap to try to erase the memory of that first trailer. Totally for the male gaze, nothing sexy at all to me, bluch, hate it. Thanks M!

Hum Bhi Akele Tum Bhi Akele looks very sweet.

Thank you FK for the clarification about section 377. We could all have a long chat about the varying degrees to which living life per one’s wishes was allowed before British colonization as well…I think a lot of it depends on caste, class and privilege as well.

  5. Please tell me that RGV trailer isn’t real. It looks like a parody. It looks like a p*rn intro. There’s no way that’s a real movie that was funded with real money. Dear God.
