13 Days of Moving! Home Stretch!

I’m not done-done by any stretch, but after today I should be over the biggest humps. I hope.

July 30: Move my few possessions down from the upstairs flat to the basement storage unit, help my friends start moving in.

July 31: Have massive migraine

August 1: Have panic attack

August 2: I arrive at 7am and start fixing things and moving in boxes, Junkman arrive at 11, locksmith at noon, locksmith leaves at 3pm, Painter arrives for tour at 3, junkman leave at 4, me at 5.

August 3: Cleaners arrive at noon, work for 6 hours, they leave, I keep cleaning, my parents arrive at 9pm, I give them a tour, and then FINALLY spend the night in my new place.

August 4: Get up super early to return rented rug doctor and pick up toilet. Dad comes by and fixes a couple things, moves fridge

August 5: Install a/c

August 6: Painter starts, take toilet out of car, dishwasher arrives

August 7: Many loads of laundry, bed arrives and gets set up, I pick up bathroom sink

August 8: scrub out kitchen cupboards, scrapper arrives and empties out basement and final things, weed and mow front lawn, build towel rack and bedside table.

August 9: Painter comes back, I put down vinyl floor in the kitchen and set up screens in the living room.

August 10: Plumber at 7am, painter at 8am, I get a new sink and toilet installed

August 11: I get up by 7am to move things out of the way, the movers are here by 9am to bring in my boxes and furniture, hopefully I get my second a/c installed by evening (it’s SO HOT) and the boxes set up so that I can continue to function.

And that’s it! Done! Except for the final day of painting. And unpacking all the boxes. And waiting for my new custom made sofa to arrive.

PHEW! Frankly, I’m impressed I managed to write any blog posts at all 🙂

    • I’m getting so close! Tomorrow the last few rooms are painted, and maybe I can get my Dad to hang my medicine cabinet. I still have boxes upon boxes to empty, but I’ll be done with all the big household stuff. PHEW!

  2. Yay, a bed! And A/C! And a new toilet and sink! It’s finally for reals for reals. Pretty soon you’ll start going to bed and getting up without everything around you having changed from one day to the other, and won’t that be amazing?

    • That will be SO AMAZING! I wonder what I will do with myself then?

  3. I’m so happy for you! In less than 2 weeks your house changed from “rented apartment with slobby tenants” to” new clean and colorful home”.
How is Albie doing? Is she staying with your during all those works or with you parents?
And how are your friends in the other part of the house? Were their tenants also so annoying?

    • Albie has stayed with me through it all and he is very stressed. Lots of following me around, lots of crawling on top of me, and he wears his stress t-shirts 24 hours a day.

  4. Yay, you’re in. Such a lot of work, so thorough, it will be a proper home. Soon it will be time to stop and soak in the goodness – and you have a new sofa arriving!! Wonderful. Just fling a snood over the unopened boxes and peel yourself a grape. Best wishes for the new homestead.

    • Yes! Fingers crossed, by the end of the day today all the big things will be done, and then I have the whole lovely weekend to try and organize my kitchen so I can eat food.

  5. Now that it’s towards the end of the day on the 12th, I hope all the major stressors are finally behind you. Glad to hear from you at all through this turbulent time. Congratulations on your new place!!

    • I have all my stuff in one place, FINALLY. But the painting still isn’t quite finished. Sigh. And we need to get an electrician to look at a thing. And the plaster wall repair guy needs to do just one more thing and isn’t returning our calls. So yes, MAJOR stressors are gone, minor stressors remain.
