Happy Wednesday! Sorry, I missed the Monday post because I was totally wiped after Grandpa’s 100th weekend. But now I am back on track!!!

Reading: Catching up on People magazine. The royal family of Monaco is WEIRD, y’all! Also, People has a poll for “cutest rescue dog of 2021”. I am assuming many of us have opinions on this VITAL issue. Also, I voted for Panda who I think is the CLEAR winner.

Watching: New Tricks is the perfect feel good show. More of you need to be watching it! Oh, and also, I need to decide what movie to watch for Friend Movie Night tonight. My friend who can’t handle the stress of rom-coms can’t come this week, so I should take advantage.
Thinking: I have 29 boxes left. If I do three a day, which is my current manageable plan, I will be done in 10 days. But if I try to increase to 5 a day, I would be done in only 6 days! And of course, if I do TEN a day I would be done in THREE days!!!!! Or, alternatively, I would feel so over-whelmed that I would freeze up and do nothing. Hmm. I think I should stick with 3 a day, don’t you?
Listening: Well, I had to find an Ayushmann song, didn’t I? This is a super fun one but the ending is WHAT THE HECK!!! Why can’t we just have a nice simple happy ending?

I have recently discovered a Marathi song by Ajay-Atul and am just obsessed! The composition is so catchy and Bela Shinde has sung it so well…not to mention the actress is a great dancer!
Do people already know about this song? Am I just late to the party?

I’m slowly sinking to the bottom of Christopher Lee’s fimography, and honestly the weirder it gets the more I like it. Such an enormous variety of genres and quality. I just almost always wish he had more screentime, but power to him for being expensive, I guess.
I’m watching the last season of New Tricks which I am not really into, but soon the network will start the whole series over I hope so that will be fun.
I know I’ve seen a bunch of Ayushmann movies but I can’t really recall much about them except for Bareilly ki Barfi, so let’s say that one. ALso, WHAT is that song? Gah.

Oh yaaaaay! I hope your network does start it over from the beginning. I’m streaming it start to finish, seasons 1 and 2 are fun, and then starting in season 3 it is REALLY fun.

I saw Shershaah this weekend and I thought it was pretty good. I don’t usually like war movies that much but I thought this was worth a watch.
I also watched Tuck Jagadish but that was a boring and convoluted mess. I didn’t really like the trailer in the first place but the movie was more of a disappointment.
I think my favorite Ayushmann performance is Meri Pyaari Bindu. It doesn’t have a happy ending but I thought he was really good in it!

I have only watched the first 10 minutes of Tuck Jagadish. There were 4 brutal murders in those first 10 minutes. I wanted to continue watching regardless the violence because I thought it will be worth for emotional scenes but I read the rest of the movie is equally boring and stupid so I quit.

Yeah, I don’t think the rest of the movie is worth it. Also Ritu Varma literally has one montage song and then is basically in the background for the majority of the movie.

Just finished watching 4 seasons of The Durrells. A beautiful, feel-good British series about the Durrell family (which included authors-to-be Gerald and Lawrence) living in Corfu in the 1930s. It’s based on Gerald Durrells semi-autobiographical books. Highly recommended.

I have watched B-grade telugu movie MAD (Marriage and Divorce). I really have a soft spot for such movies, because even if they are bad, there is always something nice and new in them. It’s a story about two friends. It’s hard to say who is the hero and who hero’s best friend. Both are good for nothing but one of them is rich and the other jobless and poor. The poor one meets a girl. they start dating, have a lot of sex and later move to live together. The rich one is a casanova, who later has an arranged marriage with a very sensitive and gentle girl who is an artist. And this is what I liked the most in the movie – the girl is very traditional, but not in a “OMG I’m so sanskari and I’m better than other women” way. It’s just who she is, a sensitive woman who yearns to find a person who will love her the way she is. Unfortunately the guy she marries is not that person. She doesn’t want to have sex on the first night, so the guy, who is the worst and a slut, starts ignore her. After few months she decides to divorce him. They must live 6 months together before divorce, and obviously they start knowing and liking each other. But in the meantime, the guy, who is an emotional parasite, manages to destroy his friend’s relationship.
The other good thing in this movie is that not even for a second the girl who is in live in relationship is treated badly. She and the married girl are different and have different relationships but they both are free to choose how they want to live and they deserve to be happy. Such a feminist movie. Who would say .

The live-in girlfriend is tired that her boyfriend is always in a bar with his friend and she dumbs him. He is heartbroken because he truly loved her, but he decides to not share his worries with the rich friend because he doesn’t want to disturb him. After some time of lonely drinking, he also loses his job. Alone and sad he decides to kill himself. Thanks God he is saved. Everybody visits him in a hospital. The ex-girlfriend discovers he wanted to marry her the day she left him. They reconcile. The rich guy realizes he was terrible friend and knew nothing about his best buddy’s worries. He’s sorry, everybody’s happy. The rich couple also reconcile (and before that she helps him with his project, and he sponsors her exhibition). Happy ending.

It looks like it could be good, sadly I do not find Sunny Kaushal at all attractive. I hope what’s her face is in it enough to make it worthwhile for me.

I’m a little disappointed both with the story, and with Didi actress. Her voice is strange. If I didn’t saw her in Ray I would think she is a bad actress, but I know she’s good. Will still watch it but with less enthusiasm.

I really like Sunny Kaushal, or at least I liked him in Bhangra Paa Le. But Disney Hotstar – I don’t think I’ll be able to see it unless I can rent it on YouTube or something.

Listening: back to 99 Songs. After not listening for a while, it’s such a great soundtrack. The variety of good songs, instruments, styles is amazing, and the singing is tops.
Watching: still K-dramas, now following a different male lead, Jung Hae In. A short Netflix series where he’s chasing down guys who desert while doing the mandatory two years military service – set up as a buddy comedy, but darker than advertised, aiming to expose hazing and other badness that goes on. And a romcom, One Spring Night, which reminds me a tiny bit of 90s era plots that are all young lovers vs. the patriarchy, showing you all the ways people participate in this system that ends in not allowing women to make their own choices. Maybe this weekend will be Anjaam, if I have enough awake time.
Reading: nothing much now that vacation is over and we’re in this crazy first week of figuring out how to do two kids at different schools, but in a pandemic. Plus my husband came back from his trip with a bad tooth and proceeded to stomp around the house and growl at everyone for three days until he could get it removed. Like living with a bear.

Still not gonna watch Korean dramas, but I am beginning to want to try classic Hong Kong again. And you should watch Anjaam! It will be a nice antidote to pretty swoony K-dramas.
For reading material at the moment for you…I suggest Far Side collections!!!! One joke panels that are actually funny most of the time. And your kids can read over your shoulder.
And yes, HAHAHAHAHA!!!!! How could ANYONE think this was a good idea???? I didn’t even notice the “social media attention” aspect in the last article. So there really is a bread and circuses element, “dance for us! Dance for our likes and views and we will give you pennies to help your starving people survive!”

I still find Naga Chaitanya’s casting odd in the movie. Sai Pallavi looks brilliant and dances fantastically in the trailer. My hopes are really up because it is a Shekar Kammula movie.

I also don’t understand what Naga Chaitanya is doing in Love Story, but as you said – it’s Shekar Kammula movie and it has Sai Palavi so it’s a must watch. I have my fingers crossed it’s a good film.

I have developed a major crush on Joseph Cotten after seeing him in Shadow of a Doubt in all his murdering psychopath glory (yes, you can judge me!). So of course I watched a bunch of his movies, I love him as a leading man and he’s also a good character actor. Do you have suggestions? I’m gonna have to watch Citizen Kane now, perfectly on-brand for me to watch the ‘greatest’ film because of a crush on the actor!

Question: my kid is doing cool things already in middle school. In Social Studies he’s learning about the Harappan civilization and Mohenjo-Daro. This seems like a perfect excuse to watch the movie. Is it good? Would you like it if you were an 11yo boy?

Ooooo! You should ABSOLUTELY watch Mohenjo Daro with him! It’s very dumb in a way an 11 year old would both enjoy, and enjoy making fun of (especially if he knows a little bit). It opens with Hrithik wrestling a prehistoric alligator and ends with an Enormous Flood.

Watched Mohenjo Daro last week and I was surprised at myself with how much I didn’t like it. I didn’t expect to love it but I didn’t expect to despise it either. Hrithik and Pooja are gorgeous, but she looks way too young for him. And I couldn’t figure out whether it was supposed to be a fantasy/magical realism film or not. Definitely felt fake historical, which I already knew it was going to be from reviews. Really, the only good thing was the musical. That CGI unicorn was not it.
Finished a fantasy YA novel that again, I was surprised by how much I didn’t like it. The only thing it had going for it was a pansexual main character who has both a female and male love interest, and (spoiler alert) ends up in a poly relationship with both of them by the end. Plus a nonbinary supporting character with they/them pronouns. But the actual plot was so confusing by the end that I stopped caring and almost completely stopped paying attention.
Really just trying to get through back to school at this point. My building has no AC, so it’s a miserable existence, and the masks make it ten times worse. I’ve worn dresses exclusively to beat the heat. I’ve gotten randomly emotional over the breakup a few times since it happened last week. The good things are that I think fall weather is finally on its way in NJ, and I have one incredible class in the middle of the day that are hard workers and also witty and hilarious. It’s been less than ten school days and I love them.

I am so happy you have one class you love! Teenagers when they are bad are the worst, but when they are good they can be SO FUN!!! You are almost making me regret that I turned down the chance to teach the teen group at my church. I freakin’ LOVE those kids (those kids in particular, they are the same ones I used to teach in the lower classes), but I am just too busy right now.

This is why I loved my Sunday School Class! They were jumping off tables and running around and constantly challenging me. Way WAY more fun than kids who were all “well-behaved”.
