Happy Shahrukh Month! Let the happy topics continue. And today, in honor of one of those many teachers days, let’s talk teaching.
What do I want him to teach me?
How to flirt! He clearly has it down to a science, which he pulls out in interviews and other situations and otherwise doesn’t use. Wouldn’t that be an amazing super power? To pull out the charm and the flirt and get whatever you want whenever you want it?
What do I want to teach him?
Well, this is hard! He’s a lot older than me and I respect him and stuff, just doesn’t seem appropriate. But there must be SOMETHING I can teach him, right? Cooking, I guess. I can teach him how to make classic Western style yeast bread.

I would want to take a class on acting from him. Not that I want to be an actor, but I want to know how he does it. I’ve heard in interviews that he doesn’t like nature so much, has a hard time just sitting there. So I would teach him how to be a forest preschool teacher. It involves a lot of being in the moment and still observation, but it also involves kids, and I know he likes kids.

Oooo, I would also want to take an acting class from him! Except that I think he would challenge his students really really hard to be the best they can be, and I don’t know if I am up for that with acting. I would do it if he let me just audit and not participate.
Forest pre-school would be an excellent job for him. Except he would have to actual control the children in some way instead of just playing with them, and that is hard. You would have to teach him about discipline and rules and stuff.

Very few rules in forest preschool, except that if a child can’t sit still during storytime they sit with a teacher, and a child who runs off (few ever do) gets to hold a teacher’s hand. I would say there isn’t control, but there is, circle time and tea time and storytime and lunch time do mean there is some control, but minimal. Mostly I want SRK to just be in nature. I suspect he doesn’t know how to do that. Honestly the kids could teach him.

Yeah, I think if Shahrukh was allowed to be in a forest like kids are in a forest, he would like it. Climb a tree! Throw leaves! Run around and scream! Try to sneak up on an animal! Fall in a creek!

I should really stop assuming what the article is about based on the title. For a second I thought you meant what I’d like to learn from him if he were a high school teacher. And me being a terrible person, I thought, “Sex Ed!”
But since that is not the question, hmm. I’d like to learn resilience from him. And teach him…this is difficult. How to analyze turn of the century women’s literature? Or all the history of England? Those are the only things I’m good at teaching, whoops!

Teach him how to analyze literature! Based on how he analyzes a script when building a character, I bet he would be really good at it. But at the same time, it is a new skill for him to step back and consider the outside forces that might effect a text, not just how to live within it.
Also, I want him to read Yellow Wallpaper and understand how it is related to Darr.

Yellow Wallpaper and Darr? As I recall, Wallpaper is about self-propagating societal norms for women, and Darr, which I didn’t like because SRK played a deranged villain, is about obsession and murder. Please explain.

Yellow Wallpaper is about a woman going slowly insane as she is locked up by the men in her household “for her own good”. Towards the end of Darr, that is what happens to Juhi. She is more damaged and crazed by being locked up, than if she were allowed to take control of her own life.

Who locks her up? SRK? I don’t remember that part or her going mad? I thought Sunny married Juhi, killed stalker SRK, and the couple sails away happy. It’s not a film I care to watch it again so I’ll take your word for it.

It’s really smart, the ultimate message of the movie is that Juhi is put in danger not just by SRK, but by the men around her who don’t believe or listen to her. AFter marriage with Sunny, Sunny decides to “protect” her by locking her in the house all the time.

I would like him to teach me about his favorite poets–their lives and what their work means to him. In part because I think he has a connection with poetry on several levels that I don’t, and in part because, just imagine him reading excerpts in class, in any language he chooses. Sigh.
I would like to teach him key feminist works of the late 20th century. What a fun and challenging student he would be. I’d like to get his thinking past that liberal but slightly paternalistic admiration/affection for women that he seems to exhibit sometimes. My dream would be to help inspire him to try some different things through the Meer Foundation or other groups.

How about combining two classes? He teaches poetry dramatic recitation, so there is the acting lesson Genevieve requested, plus your poetry lessons?
And you and TownsandTulips can combine on the feminism, since she is all about female authors of the early 20th century! Give him some sense of past and present theory!
