Happy Wednesday! I get two days off work starting tomorrow! Why? No reason! I just blocked myself for a couple mental health days. Which I will be spending at doctor’s appointments because I HATE taking time off work to go to the doctor so I would rather take time off vacation.
I’ll start!
Reading: I am debating what to read. It’s getting chilly and fall-y which is the perfect weather to curl up with a murder mystery. I was reading Ngaio Marsh’s for a while, I could go back to those. Or hit up Christie, always good. Or see if Anne Perry has a new book out. The world is my oyster!
Watching: I watched Ragini MMS with my friends movie night last week, it is TERRIBLE. And now my friends are lobbying for more terrible horror movies to celebrate Halloween month. I am strongly considering making them watch Golmaal Again tonight. Oh, also, I started the TV show A Million Little Things, which is PERFECT. It’s like This Is Us or Thirtysomething in style, but not as good so I can just let it wash over me and not get emotional about it. Great puzzle watching.
Thinking: Vacation! I put these days on the schedule a month ago when I was feeling overwhelmed with moving and everything else and just wanted some time to breath. Now I am feeling less overwhelmed but I don’t want to “waste” the days, so I am doing all the medical appointments I have put off. Tomorrow I get a flu shot and go to the dentist for the first time in 6 years. Friday I go to a dermatologist for a skin cancer full body scan which sounds SUPER unpleasant, but also the sort of responsible thing I should start doing since I burn like fried chicken every summer. And then if I feel like it, I can also organize my closets and do the final unpacking (knick knacks, pictures on walls, things I don’t miss not having up). Or, I can do puzzles and watch A Million Little Things.
Listening: Soothing rainy day songs, because it is rainy days here.

A new Vidyut Jaamwal movie is coming to Hulu/Disney/Hotstar on October 15
I couldn’t find the trailer with subtitles, but you really don’t need subtitles to figure out what’s going on. Vidyut’s wife needs an operation, the hospital is hijacked by terrorists, Vidyut saves the day. It’s dumb. It’s action. Hopefully there are some shirtless scenes of Vidyut. I can’t wait to watch it.

This sounds like the perfect counter programming to Little Things! You can watch Dhruv and Kavya work through complex emotional relationship issues, and then cleanse yourself by watching Vidyut kill everyone.

I watched Shiddat so you don’t have to. The actors are all very good especially Mohit Raina. He was a revelation for me. So handsome and with such a strong screen presence. I couldn’t take my eyes off him. I loved the first 30 minutes, unfortunately the rest of the story is too silly! I love romances, tragic romances, silly romances, I’m target audience for this film, but even I couldn’t believe in this love story. They wanted an epic romance with larger than life acts, but to make it belivable they should have show us the protagonists really love each other. Instead here we have a girl who seems quite happy to have an arranged marriage and the guy who doesn’t understand it. Here’s Mohit Raina telling the protagonist what we all think about him:
In short: Can watch for Mohit being beautiful and a sexy dressing room scene.
I also watched telugu film Nootokka Jillala Andagadu. Ruhani Sharma and her character were great as always. The first half is funny and lovely and I had great time watching it, but the conflicts in the second half were too forced and it felt too long in the end. What a pity, it could be so good with better second half.
I also managed to finally finish Thimmarusu. Oh man it was a nightmare to finish. There are many twists (too many) but none of them really matters. Even Satyadev couldn’t make it interesting.
Reading: I started Half Girlfriend, and IMHO it sucks.

There is hardly any dancing! I only remember the short romantic dance that was on one of the posters, and maybe some club song, nothing else. The music was nice, but almost no dancing 😔

Where did you watch Nootokata Jillala Andagadu? I want to watch it for Ruhani.
Zee5 is releasing Raja Raja Chora so I am thinking of getting a month long subscription just to watch the movie.
Check the trailer of Konda Polam with Vaishnav Tej and Rakul Preet. It is a Krish directorial so I am hoping it is good.

I watched it on Prime. It was a nice surprise because Italian Prime hardly adds southern (well Indian) movies anymore but they add exactly the one I wanted to watch.
Konda Polam trailer is good, thanks. I already like Vaishnav Tej for Uppena, but here he makes even bigger impression. I’m not sure about Rakul playing a village girl, but the movie looks very good.

Yeah I think after seeing her play mostly urban characters it is difficult to imagine her as a village girl. On the plus side does not look like they darkened her skin.

It’s Giornate Del Cinema Muto but so far I’m not super impressed. Movies are alright, nothing very noteworthy. Pre-20s film men are notoriously potatofaced, but after months of staring at Christopher Lee they are looking especially potato-y. The women have been alright but not enough to make up for it. But tonight I’m getting Conrad Nagel so that’s something I guess.
I’m spending all my time doing life stuff or watching potatoes so have no time for anything else!

Forgot to say I have a light recommend for The Man From Kangaroo which does have some great horrifying stunts and fantastic tonneau skirts in it.

We got the Disney + bundle after you told us that hotstar films were available (yay!) so in the last 2 weeks I’ve watched 2 new Sethupathi movies–Annabelle Sethupathi via Hulu/hotstar, and Tughlaq Durbar on Netflix. I watched Kuruthi with Prithviraj, Roshan Mathew, and an actress I didn’t know before named Srindaa. Kuruthi is the best made but most intense film of those–exploring Hindu/Muslim tensions through a very personal, violent, story. Tughlaq Durbar has good ideas and good moments, but is probably mostly for Sethu fans, and Annabelle Sethupathi is strictly for Sethu, Yogi Babu, and Taapsee Pannu fans. It’s beautiful to look at and the music is nice. But there were SO many questionable story, dialogue, editing, and dubbing decisions. Yeesh.
Since we have Hulu, we’ve been watching Only Murders in the Building as a family. So good!

I watched Lagaan because I felt like I had to. It was fine. Not a waste of time, and I see why people like it, but idk if I’d recommend it. It was SO LONG. And I also know nothing about cricket so that final match took forever. I was learning about cricket during that match, which helped, but it lowered the stakes. Idk. Not the best movie ever, but not the worst.
Reading the sequel to Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe! It’s so good! They’re so sweet!
How has no one mentioned this yet?!
