I Am Going to the Dentist Today! Think Toothy Thoughts!

Ugh, Dentist! I successfully had no teeth problems for 8 years by the simple method of not going to the dentist. And then my friend guilted me into it, and all of a sudden I have to have a Deep Cleaning and get a new filling. Dentists! The source of all teeth problems!

I get a Deep Cleaning which apparently means they numb half your mouth, go scrap scrap scrap, then send you off, then you come back a week later and they numb the other half of your mouth and go scrap scrap scrap again. So I’m gonna be drooling on myself and biting my cheek all weekend.

Anyway, obviously this is the only thing that is cheering me up. TOOTH!

  1. The last time I went to the dentist I was 27 or 28, currently 45. My doctor is horrified, but also kinda amazed I don’t have problems. I was trained to screen kid’s teeth for dental problems when I was 29, so I screen my own. But I should go to a dentist, I don’t advice people to wait 20 years between visits. Enjoy your clean teeth!

      • Teeth can re-calcify. So it is possible to get a cavity, treat it with fluoride (ie brush A LOT) and not have to get a cap. But different people’s teeth are different. It is possible mine are better at re-calcifying than others. I have noticed what dentists would probably call a cavity many times, and then I brush four times a day for a week or more. Also flossing is good, but the key here is fluoride, Uncle Tom’s non-fluoride toothpaste isn’t going to cut it.

        • I got excellent teeth care the first 20 years of my life, and since then have brushed and flossed more or less, so really it’s remarkable they aren’t worse!

  2. Here’s a toothy thought: a picture of Deepika smiling (seriously, who doesn’t want that smile) to inspire you to go to the dentist.

I am being guilted into going to the dentist too, but I am using the baby as an excuse to delay it. I think I can delay it at least for another month or so. But then my husband is going to drag me there Draupadi style.

    • I think there is some kind of rule against major tooth procedures during pregnancy – unless my wife made that up to get out of the root canal work she had to have done. We finally got that fixed this summer, just in time for number two.

    • You know babies are born with dental coverage? I find this so funny for some reason. They have no TEETH!!! And yet they come into the world, fully dental covered.
