Saturday WatchAlong: White Christmas! Because it is the Corny BEST!!!! 8am Chicago Time

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay, White Christmas! I’m gonna be sitting here eating left over mashed potatoes like someone who lives RIGHT.

White Christmas! It’s on Netflix and other places, it’s got an awesome score, and it’s got a fun mixture of campy, comic, and sincere.

Festive Facts About 'White Christmas' Movie | Mental Floss

At 8am Chicago Time, I will put up an “and PLAY” comment and then we will comment along from there.

And for our ready-to-pop reader Filmikudhi: My sister went into labor while watching a movie long distance over the phone with me! Just saying, long distance watchalongs with Margaret have a proven track record.

  1. I just love the good old nearly one takes of these old songs, shows the choreography and the talent of the dancer better than any editing trick. Also, if any of you are interested then GO WATCH ‘Tick Tick…BOOM!’ on Netflix!! It is so AMAZING!! Andrew Garfield deserves an Oscar!

  2. My Mom saw this movie in theaters when she was 6 years old and it made a deep impression on her, and the next few days she stood in front of the mirror and pretended to be Rosemary Clooney during this number. So while watching it, pretend you are seeing a 6 year old little girl with blonde curls doing it Very SEriously.

  3. Also, I think this is the best song in the movie for Rosemary. She’s a jazz torch singer, not a showtunes singer and this one really lets her play to her strengths.

  4. So you realize at some point between when she talked to Rosemary and now, the housekeeper must have learned the truth. BUT SHE NEVER CORRECTED ROSEMARY!!! Or told anyone else what she told Rosemary!!!

  5. Such an odd era in America. It’s like every man was a secret superhero. They had their day to day identity as a father and husband and so on, but secretly they were soldiers.

  6. In real life, Irving Berlin was in the army in WWI and wrote a lot of silly songs for reviews back then. And then came back and coordinated more USO soldier shows for WWII. That’s where these songs are from. And also, “Oh How I Hate to Get Up in the Morning”, a song that speaks to ALL of us.

  7. This movie is totally putting me in the mood to decorate my house in all things Christmas. My sister is already done but I haven’t done much this year. Usually, it feels like Christmas exploded in my house. It is my FAVORITE time of the year.

    • I invited a friend over this afternoon to help me decorate, which is great! I’ve just been putting a pin in it in my head and planning to do all of it with her today and not worry about it until then.

    • Any TJMaxx’s in Finland? That’s usually my go-to. And we have a local hardware store that turns into a Christmas store just for the holidays.
