Monday Morning Questions: What do You Want to Ask Me The First Full Week of December?

Happy Monday! Very busy weekend, but now I am all safe and sound and back at work like a normal person.

Here is where you get to ask me anything you want from “Margaret, have you finished handmaking all your gifts yet?” to “Margaret, why haven’t you made homemade cookies yet?” to “Margaret, why do you hate Christmas and not celebrate it correctly?” Just keep coming back here all week as you think of new questions!

Now, question for YOU! First, It’s St. Nicholas Day! Who does stuff for that and what do you do?

HAPPY ST. NICHOLAS DAY - Chateau De Bois Giraud

And then more importantly, KAT AND VICKY!!!! LEAVING FOR WEDDING NOW!!!! Is this the best we could wish for our Kat, or do you wish she had something even better?

Personally, I’m still upset she didn’t marry Prince Harry. That was my first plan for her post-Ranbir. But then that didn’t work out, and I went to my back up plan of Salman. And that’s never gonna happen, so I guess Vicky is okay. He seems to make her happy and so on and so forth, but he isn’t that “HA! I found someone EVEN BETTER” that I was hoping for.

  1. In Finland, we have Joulupukki (Yule Goat, but like in human form) who lives in Lapland with all the tomtes/elves. The local TV station always broadcasts a Santa Clause answering questions and messages and phone calls from Children on Christmas Eve. It’s called Joupukin Kummalinja (Santa Clause’s Hotline).

This is a good animated movie about the Finnish Santa Clause, though when it comes to the Sami character the tropes he has are not great (#problematic) since they are the indigenous people of Lapland. It has English subtitles, so if anyone wants to see this then they can on YouTube.

AND I AM SO PSYCHED FOR KAT’S WEDDING! I HAVE WANTED THEM TOGETHER AND NOW THEY ARE AND MY INSTINCT WAS RIGHT ABOUT THEM!!!! HA! VINDICATION!

  2. Also, today is Finland’s Independence Day!!! 104 Years!!

Bought a lot of Fazer chocolates to celebrate. This is the film that always comes on TV every single year. My Grandfather Matti Ranin is the shouting soldier at 0:53 and 2:50-3:01 he is the well-dressed higher-ranked solder.

    • Happy Independence Day Finns! I have been to Finland twice and loved it, although I went in August and it was still too cold for me, which is why I haven’t moved there.

  3. I like the Yule Goat idea. It’s nicer than La Befana, the witchy old Italian lady who leaves coal in your stocking if you’re bad. And oranges if you’re good. Come on, oranges?

And hooray for Viktrina (or whatever). She’s got to be pushing 40 so it’s time if they want a kid. I sorta wanted to see her with Salman but if it was going to happen, it already would have. And he’s such a complicated man. I mean, who knows what’s going on underneath all that public bluster? On the other hand, maybe nothing is going on and it’s all about him with no room for anybody else. Still a fan, though.

  4. We usually put fancy plates on the dining table on the evening of the 5th, and Nikolaus fills them with chocolates, nuts and oranges during the night. Nowadays the kids get a small present from their grandparents, too. We acknowledge the fact that you’re supposed to clean your boots for him to fill, but we rarely manage to do so. This year, of course, the spread was a little reduced, but my Mom still managed to get everyone a chocolate Nikolaus and a “Stutenkerl”, a man made out of sweet bread dough.

    • Did Baby have any idea what was happening, or was it just random different food shoved in her face?

        • Good! Babies need food. My nephew is more of the “food interrupts playtime” kind of eater and it makes him GRUMPY.

  5. Oh, this is why I love this blog. I knew about la Befana, but Yule Goat!! Why dont we have Yule Goat? I suppose we had the Lord of Misrule, and the Hunting of the Wren should be around now, but we don’t have any St Nicholas specific customs, it was all drowned in Dickens and then increasing consumerist agg. Still, the church where I work we just had the first of many Christmas lunches – today the flower club, tomorrow the lunch club…

    • By the way, partly thanks to your comments, I have started re-watching the Vicar of Dibley. British churches! So soothing!

      • Yes, they are, though my particular one can be quite manic. A visitor in the office today said we should have our own sitcom. I was laughing too hard to even answer the phone. W e have a lot of ‘characters’ including of course the staff. Had our third Christmas lunch of the week today. Happy watching!

  6. Prince Harry was your first option?!? Why?!? Marrying him would be a nightmare…aside from the media scrutiny and the various rules/restrictions…he is not the most emotionally stable person given his complicated history…why would you wish that on any person??

I really hope Vicky-Katrina go on Koffee with Karan together or do some joint interview…so we can see their dynamic together….heck I don’t even think a photo of them together exists in the media yet….how are we supposed to make sweeping judgments of their relationship without a photo?? How are we supposed to determine if they will be happily married or not?? They really need to give us something!!

  7. Did you know that hindi remake of The Blue Lagoon exists? It’s called Teri Baahon Mein. Young Mohish Behl and Ayesha Dutt play the protagonists. I watched some parts and man, there is a scene with sexual aweking , and I have never been so embarassed while watching a movie.

  8. Vicky is perfect for Katrina! I think his career will keep going up while Ranbir’s will, at best, stagnate, and then Kat will be able to say suck it to the Kapoors like that. I also think Katrina is probably going to retire immediately and Sooryanvanshi will be her last big film, unless she’s in one after that, I don’t follow her career super closely.

One thing that I’m really curious about but you may not know is, is Katrina still dubbed in Hindi films? I’ve read some blogs that say her Hindi is much better in recent films and others that say that she has an actress who dubs for her.

No judgement either way, and I think people need to pull back on this. It is nearly impossible to lose an accent as an adult learner.

    • I am 99% sure Kat does her own talking in films now. Mostly because I’ve heard her in interviews and I’ve heard her in films and it sure sounds like the same person to me. Whereas in her very early films where she WAS dubbed for sure, it sounds totally different. Oh, and also because they always have some explanation in the script for her accent, like she spent her childhood in Canada or something. If she was dubbed, why would she be dubbed withs omeone with an accent so obvious it has to be explained.

Also, to your point that people should just get over things, Greta Garbo! Dietrich! no one gave them a hard time about their accents!

  9. I went back and re-read your summary of the Koffee with Karan episode with Vicky and Ayushmann Khurrana because I couldn’t remember Vicky’s background except that he had some industry connection. This was in 2018, the same year you named Vicky as clearly the up and coming actor of the year (seems like forever ago). Re-reading this made me suspect you’ve had it in for poor Vicky since he bored you to sleep on KwK. However! There is clear foreshadowing here. Vicky’s only burst of emotion is when Karan tells him that Katrina said they might look good together. On the Kapoor front he said he would have made a better Bhavesh Joshi than Harsh, setting up a slow simmering rivalry with the whole clan. And in his superstar ranking, he put SRK at the top (points!) And Salman at the bottom, pre-emptively signaling that he was not intimidated by Kat’s most powerful ex.

(I’m mostly kidding but it is funny that all of this was in the episode from three years ago.)

    • I remember the Vicky response to Kat! It launched loads of speculation, and I want it to be that Vicky was already secretly in love from afar, but I suspect it was that Karan knew they had just started dating and was fishing for a response.
