Monday Morning Questions: What Do You Want to Ask Me on Peanut Butter Day?

Happy Monday!!! And it’s nobody’s birthday today, so far as I can tell, so to differentiate it from all the other Mondays I am celebrating “peanut butter day”.

Here is where you get to ask me anything you want from “how are you celebrating peanut butter day?” to “can you tell me the history of peanut butter day?” Just keep swinging back here all week as you think of new questions!!!

Now, question for you! Inspired by me and my father yesterday. My father, who almost never makes a mistake or does something thoughtless, left the car blinkers on the whole time they were having dinner with me yesterday. Meaning a very tense moment when we weren’t sure if the car would start or if we would have to figure out how to charge a hybrid battery. And that same day, I accidentally posted the DCIB Book Club post a week early. With that in mind, what is the dumbest thing you have done while not thinking straight because you were grieving?

I can give many examples! My sister and I ran over my grandmother’s mailbox two days after my grandfather died because we messed up backing out of her ENORMOUS driveway and somehow skidded halfway across the lawn. The day of my grandmother’s wake, I forgot I was supposed to work a shift until my boss/friend called me because I was an hour late (she didn’t make me come in, she wasn’t an ogre, but the point is I totally spaced on my work schedule and I NEVER missed shifts). And of course, you were all here when Grandpa died a month ago and my brain went out the window and isn’t fully back yet. Oh wait, two months ago! Because it’s January now. And that’s 2 months from November. Yes?

Follow up, less personal question: What Indian film Jodi is most like chocolate and peanut butter?

Shahrukh and Anushka! Because he is bitter and strong, and she is solid and filling and nutritious.

  2. I have a comment but it’s not about peanut butter or stupid things. Well yes, it is a about a stupid thing, which may not be stupid at all depending on whether you believe the media. Hungama reports the Priyanka had her baby via surragacy because she “…couldn’t take time out of her busy schedule.” Huh?

That can’t be true. Do DCIB’ers have the real scoop?

  3. The day of my father-in-law’s funeral I was trying to close the car with the key. I was trying and trying and it didn’t work. I had to ask my nephew to help me and he was like: there is no need to put the key inside, just press “lock”. So not only I didn’t know how to use the key, I totally forgot that there are buttons on it I can use. I felt so stupid.

    • That is an excellent story. The day of my great uncles funeral, when I was 5, I left my comfort stuffed toy on the pew at the church and we had to go all the way back to get it. Which was normal absent mindedness for a 5 year old, but surprising absent mindedness for my Mom who should have been watching me.

  4. I watched Atrangi Re and liked it a lot! It felt so much like the Hindi films of the past, the kind that they’ve forgotten to make now it seems. I was smiling after Tere Rang not just because it’s a great song, but also this kind of flashback song is so rare nowadays, the kind where an entire song happens while the actors just stare at each other. I was looking at reviews and saw a section of people have really taken offense at the portrayal of mental health. I was surprised because it never crossed my mind while watching the movie. Thinking about it now, it still doesn’t bother me because clearly that aspect of the movie is based in fantasy and magical realism. Did this issue bother you? I’m guessing no because I’ve read your review.

    • Nope! It’s a fantasy world of love at first sight and songs on campuses, i don’t need it to be a treatise on mental health. And the ultimate lesson is medication and love can help heal PTSD hallucinations, which I am fine with.

  5. Did you decide to buy your concert tickets?

How about Irrfan and Lara Dutta in Billu? Lara could be chocolate in a different movie but she’s solid and wholesome in Billu. Irrfan is always complex and delicious.

    • I did! Following the theory of “this is a struggling local theater/community center, I don’t mind if they keep the money and I don’t go”. I bought 3 tickets, I’ll figure out closer to the day who to take with me and/or if we are even going.

Definitely Billu! That’s an excellent chocolate-peanut butter combo. And I just thought of another one, Original Bunty Aur Babli. Rani is definitely the chocolate, dark and sweet and strong, and Abhishek is the peanut butter, solid and filling.

  6. I was reading about this:

And I wonder if it’s true. I mean it’s a lot of money so it’s strange they shelved it, especially because it’s not the first time they are not happy with the result:

How much money one can spend? And were they doing it for real? Because I’m starting to think it’s all gossip. What we know about this production?

    • I’m pretty sure I read about this series before?

If I am picking which part I think is fake, I’m gonna go with the budget part. Netflix considered doing a Bahubali series, then decided against it based on projections of cost/profit. But hasn’t actually spent money on it yet.

  7. One of my students recommended Atrangi Re to me. How do I tell her she is the best and my new favorite without making it obvious that I saw it already, weeks before her recommendation, or have any idea about Indian film in general, while also not playing obvious favorites, especially since I am not allowed to give any sort of extra credit? I feel extra bad for her because she will probably fail the quarter. But I am buying like 5 boxes of girl scout cookies from her, because that’s apparently already started????

Also, I finally figured out how to put an icon in my profile! Yay technology finally working, and also Taylor Swift!

  8. Here is my question: What TV should my family buy? We currently have no TV and have been using Chromebooks. But it is really hard for five people to gather around a Chromebook, and we want to watch the Olympics together. Also, spouse is going blind, he can see with glasses, but doesn’t like wearing them inside. The room where we want to put the TV has couches 16 feet from the wall, so we were thinking big. So do we get a 75 inch Samsung that isn’t the greatest, but is a Samsung and costs about $1000 – or do we get a lesser name TV (also 75 inch) and save $300 dollars. Is a brand name worth $300?

    • Get a lessor TV! I have a whole variety of televisions and I’ve never noticed any qualitative difference between the namebrand ones and the offbrand ones. If you were closer, I would give you the 55 inch TV I just inherited from Grandpa.

      • The killer is that Spouse has TWO giant 75 inch screens in his classroom closet. COVID $ bought him an 85 inch screen. BUT we aren’t allowed to take it home, or even pay the school for it. And I understand, the red tape is there to stop corruption, which would totally happen without it. But still, it is a bummer.

        • I don’t know if this works for where you are, but in Chicago TVs are everywhere at Goodwill stores. Because it’s the kind of thing people get rid of even if it is still functioning, and it is dirt cheap at Goodwill. Of course, that’s if you are in a place with a large population to support Goodwill donations! Don’t know if it helps you. Maybe worth driving somewhere else just to find a deal?

          • 4 hr drive each way, total 8 hrs. $150 spent on gas, and even if we save $500 We won’t know if it will work when we take it home. It would be worth it if we lived in a city, but we don’t. I found a great deal and was all set to get a TV from Best Buy last week, but then found out they no longer deliver to our area. So it is Walmart or Amazon for us. But yesterday I got to hang out and watch ice break off and move down a partially frozen mountain stream. So it’s all good.
