Wednesday Watching Post: What Are You Reading and Watching and Thinking and Listening to the First Week of July?

Happy Wednesday! Sorry-not-sorry for the low number of posts, my life is rocketing forward like a race car this month (details below) and too much is too much sometimes! Also, I gave you such nice thinky posts, so you can keep chewing on those.

I’ll start!

Reading: Rilla of Ingleside! It is so so so so SO good. Like, just a legitimately good book. I am going to keep nagging EVERYONE to read it. And you don’t need to have read any of the other books in the series at all, it’s totally standalone. And totally different, the style and content and everything isn’t like anything else Montgomery wrote really.

Watching: Star Trek! So soothing. As my life continues to spin out, having all of these clean organized space ships to look at just makes me happy.

Thinking: I had one co-worker out on a semi-emergency surgery which took a week and a half to recover, and overlapping with that another co-worker got severe COVID and is still out and looks to be out indefinitely. Oh, and a third co-worker had a pet emergency in the middle of all of this and was out half a day. And two people who aren’t on my team but overlap with us were on vacation. So I have been A BIT STRESSED. Next week my Mom and I go on our Anne of Green Gables trip and I’ve barely prepared for it. And VERY EXCITING, at the end of the month I get to drive out to my sister’s to stay indefinitely and help with her new baby. The new baby hasn’t arrived yet, so the “indefinite” is that I promised to stay at least a few days past birth. Isn’t that irritating? If I knew when the birth was going to be, I could be there for a nice week and a half. But since we don’t know when the birth is going to be, I have to plan for an unknown time. Baby’s are dumb. Or, alternatively, we are dumb and they are smart because the baby knows when it is arriving and we don’t.

Listening: In honor of Vishal’s birthday yesterday, my favorite two Vishal songs (I couldn’t pick between them):

Now, two questions for you!

First, what advice do you have for me for the “helpful aunt” portion of the month? I haven’t seen my Nephew A since before the pandemic (although we do facetime quite a bit, and I think he thinks I live in the phone). And Nephew B is a total unknown. Any general tips for newborns/toddlers?

Second, what is your favorite Vishal-Shekhar song?

  1. Never apologize for number of posts! We know you’re busy and your life is No. 1 Priority.

    The only helpful Aunt advice I have is for not-babies. Treat them like normal functioning humans. Also, intro them to great media (begin the SRK initiation ASAP!).

    • Nephew A will only watch content with vehicles in it. And he didn’t like “Chaiyya Chaiyya”. What other vehicular Shahrukh Khan content is there?

      So treat Nephew A similar to my phone support clients? Listen to his long explanations and then give practical helpful feedback?

        • OMG, Tunak tunak Tun is going around NJ schools??? That was the big underground “weird” song when I was in college. This feels like bellbottoms coming back or something. Everything old is new again!

            Seriously though, it’s probably somebody’s auntie passing her college days nostalgia on to the next generation. You’ll do it too. Only sticks when it comes from the cool aunt.

          • Awwwwww, I love that idea! My co-worker who I am training/co-working with showed me a recent youtube hit, a heavy metal version of the same song. Show it to your son and tell him it came from someone cool!

  3. Ek Villain Returns first looks. I absolutely hated Ek villain, and I think Tara can ruin even the best script, so I’m not very excited for this one, but the posters are sexy and I like them. I think I will try to watch it for Arjun, but if it’s not full of hot scenes I will be disappointed.

  4. I continue to be mostly missing in action, but I have been watching Dr Terrible’s House of Horrible, and it’s hilarious. It’s great on just a base level, but if, like me, you’ve just watched literally hundreds of the films it spoofs it’s even better.

    Also reading Dear Enemy, which is great but I can already tell I won’t like the romance.

  8. Ek Villain was very dark, and it had something, I’m not even sure what, but watching it was very unpleasant. Beyond good and bad it was odd and negative. I was depressed for days after seeing it. Hope this new film will be different. I saw the trailer today and it looks very Malang. For sure there won’t be much acting but Arjun’s locks are something else 🥰
