Monday Morning Questions: What Do You Want to Ask Me on the 4th of July?

Happy Monday! I am so glad I have the day off work. I’ve got so much to do to prepare for my back to back trips. And also, I’ll probably end up doing a little work just so I am less overwhelmed tomorrow.

Here is where you get to ask me anything you want from “are you going to see a movie while on your trip?” to “What’s a good Indian film to watch for 4th of July?” Just keep swinging back here all week as you think of new questions!

Now, question for you! I’ve been binging various Star Treks for the past few months, have any of you watched any Star Trek at some point? Should we be talking about it here? And if not, why not? Why did it not appeal to you?

  1. I did a search to see if you had discussed the Ms Marvel series on Disney. I did see the book club discussion of the comic though. How are we not taking about this? I have no interest in superhero anything and no knowledge of the Marvel universe or multiverse or whatever but there are so so so many Bollywood references just in the first 3 episodes including discussing their favorite SRK film and that there’s no bad SRK film, and the entire brother’s wedding which has all this: https://www.tunefind.com/show/ms-marvel/season-1/223494

      • I am also excited to pressure more people into reading the first 10 book collections! They are soooooooooooooo good, and easily available on the Hoopla app your library provides.

        • I would be up for it. Should I read the books before watching the show? I feel like I might be more into the books once I watch the series. This is what happened with Bridgerton. I read all the books after watching the first season of the show. I loved the books. But, now I will forever wish I had not read the books before watching Bridgerson’s second season. I could not stand the second season of Bridgerton because I loved the book so much. And I really really want to enjoy the show. I’ve read great reviews about it and I am really looking forward to it.

          • I think watch the show first? I really love the books, but the show is slightly different in a lot of good ways. Simplified some plot points for the purposes of TV, stuff like that. But the heart seems to be the same, the Jersey City setting and the warm family and the gentle growing up sort of teenage lessons. Also, the show is shorter. So you can watch it in one burst once it is finished, and then read the books.

Of course, they could still ruin everything in the next season, but I have more faith in Marvel then in Shondaland.

          • I think that’s a good idea. I will watch the show after next Wednesday’s season finale. It will peak my interest in the books and hopefully I will continue to enjoy the show’s second season.

P.S. SPOILER WARNING for those who have not seen the series yet. I have read that Fawad will finally be making his appearance on this Wednesday’s episode. You will have to let the Fawad fans know how he was. I know it’s only a small cameo but I am still super excited to see him on screen.

          • OMG OMG I forgot about the Fawad cameo!! We’re one episode behind after skipping the holiday weekend but now I am highly motivated to catch up. With the way the plot is going, I wonder if they’ll make him a villain? There are some djinn in the mix…hmmm….

Anyway, this is my vote for a discussion post. I love the family so much. Though, they did not try hard to make it look like Jersey City. My friend noticed that a view from Manhattan was from the east side rather than the west side, our latest working theory is Brooklyn for exterior locations. A bummer since JC has been trying to set itself up as a friendly local alternative to NYC for filming.

          • I woke up early so I could watch the latest Ms. Marvel episode. I have no context because I haven’t seen any of the other episodes and I won’t spoil it, but OMG!!! FAWAD!!! Fawad’s voice!!! I am smitten!!! I cannot wait to watch the series and watch this episode over and over again.

Can’t wait to discuss/gush about this episode at some point!

          • I too watched bits of the latest episode without any context just for him and wow Fawad and Mehwish Hayat make an attractive couple!

          • YESS!!! The chemistry is AMAZING! Mehwish Hayat is so beautiful. And FAWAD!!! Seriously, I cannot get over how magnetic and charming he is. Plus, the episode was such so touching.

          • I’ve never seen her before, she reminds me of Chitrangda Singh a bit. Fawad’s doing what he does best! I didn’t go beyond first few minutes because I could feel it’s going to be heavy. Will watch when all episodes are out.

          • Yes! She and Chitaranga Singh look very alike! I am going to do the same. I’ll watch it all after next Wednesday but couldn’t resist watching this episode because I’m a antsy teenage girl when it comes to Fawad!

  2. I have 0 opinion on Star Trek. I do have friends who are fans, so…watch it? I guess?

I saw this cool thing on social media, where someone says what books a Bollywood character would read. I think she did ZNMD, K3G, and YJHD. I don’t remember the others. I think Rohan from K3G had “How to Win Friends and Influence People”, since he’s bringing people together with no therapy or outside intervention. And Yash doesn’t read books, just the newspapers Nandini lays out for him lol

Can we do something like this on the blog? With maybe a suggestion for what book the character should read to get over a flaw or a sad phase?

  3. Okay regarding Star Trek, this is such a divisive topic in my household. Husband LOVES Star Trek. He watches all episodes old and new. He will literally put on either Star Trek or West Wing when I fall asleep and he is still awake (this happened just this past weekend!) He tried getting me to watch Star Trek Discovery and I tried but I just could not get into it. He also just started Star Trek: Strange New Worlds a few days ago. I have no idea why I cannot get into Star Trek. It has strong female characters, lots of diversity, great progressive messages, super hero elements, all of which I love. And yet, I cannot get into it. It’s one of those shows that I should love. I actually feel a bit sad and ashamed to admit that I just can’t get into it.

However, while watching Star Trek Discovery, my favorite character was Captain Pike from the second season. I am slightly tempted to watch the new Star Trek: Strange New Worlds since he is the lead. If I end up seeing it, I will let you know my thoughts.

    • Try Strange New Worlds! It’s super light and fun, and only a few episodes long. Second to that, try DS9. I don’t want to disagree with your husband, but in my household we consider it the Best Star Trek.

      • Husband and I are discussing this and he said if he were to introduce a new person to Star Trek, he would introduce them to the reboot movies. He thinks they are well made and a great way to introduce an average person to Star Trek and get them into it. He compared them to the early Marvel/Avenger movies.

He also said Janeway is the best ever and also he will always have a soft spot for Voyager because that’s what he grew up with.

        • This is good advice. I loved Star Trek TNG growing up but could not get my kids into it. DS9 had more hooks to it, and better suited to our less optimistic times, I might try that one again now that they’re older.
