Thank goodness a Real Life Friend alerted me to this since all y’all told me NOTHING. Oh well, it’s summer, it’s hot, school is out, sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of gossip.

Sonakshi Sinha, likeable for so MANY reasons. She has stuck to her distinctive look, not giving in to weight or facial reconstruction pressure. When put in the right role, she can be an extremely good and subtle and charismatic presence. And she takes a lot of risky roles, she would rather take a small film with a good fun interesting female character than a big film with a boring one. Oh, and she isn’t all “arty” either! Her take on strong female character usually involves dance numbers and fight scenes and a swoony romance.

Zaheer Iqbal, mostly likeable (to me) because I looooooooooooooooooooooooove his movie The Notebook. It’s pretty, it’s romantic, it has cute kids and good songs, and a really nice moral about love and forgiveness. He does great in it, and I love that he signed on for such a non-traditional hero kind of role.

Now, I am late to the game with the stories about their relationship. Apparently they met in 2017 at a party at Salman’s house, they are both Bombay Brats, his Dad is a wealthy business man and her Dad is, of course, Shatrughan Sinha. They kept the whole relationship tightly under wraps, because of the religion thing. Apparently their wedding photos are now getting nasty trolling comments and things, so probably a good idea.

What I love is that the wedding itself is just being JOYOUS. Now that they are legally married and cannot be torn apart, they are blasting social media with photos and videos and just waving their love in our faces and who cares what folks say.

Some clarification on what might be said: Sonakshi’s Dad is a bit of a right-winger. Not nearly as extreme as he could be, he’s made some interestingly moderate statements in the past especially as relates to the film industry, but on paper he is part of the BJP party. And he is active in the Hindu religion, it’s not a “just on paper” kind of family, they practice the rites and ceremonies and stuff. So his daughter marrying a Muslim man…that’s interesting.

Second, they got married under the Special Marriage Act. This is a legal category specifically for non-religious marriages. It also means you have to post notice of your intent to marry for 30 days in order for objections to be filed. Naturally, I know about it through Shahrukh. When he and Gauri got married, 2 not very famous people at the time, they used a friend’s address on the paperwork because it was already common for their to be insults and ugliness just because it was an interreligious marriage between ANYONE. So I’m gonna assume that Sonakshi was smart enough to want to get through that whole 30 day period in total secrecy and just let the news come out when it was all done and dusted.
