Salman Getting Married? I’ll Believe It When I See It

The internet is buzzing today over a blind item in the Mumbai Mirror which seemed to be referring to Salman’s potential marriage to his longtime rumored girlfriend, Romanian Iulia Vantur.  But I don’t know if I believe it.

Here is the original blind item:

“So the not-young and single superstar may well be married by the year’s end. The forever bachelor has decided that nuff’s nuff. We hear his current girlfriend, a foreigner, may soon end up being the most powerful woman in the film biz. Not an enviable spot, we assure you, for it isn’t her love that will make him pop ring. Rather it’s his ailing mum, who wants to see her baby boy well taken care of. Oh, the more things change.”

So, it’s obviously Salman.  There aren’t that many aging single superstars with sick mothers who are dating foreigners.  But does the Mumbai Mirror even know what it is talking about?

Salman’s been supposedly dating Iulia for years, but their relationship hasn’t appeared as serious as some of his others (Kat, Aish, Sangeeta).  Plus, Iulia isn’t exactly the perfect Indian wife.  She’s supposedly been married before, she’s not ethnically Indian, she’s older (like, early 30s at least), and she’s in that tricky middle-ground of “famous but not famous enough.”  So, not a pure innocent like Shahid’s Mira, but also not so incredibly famous that she transcends modesty, like Madhuri.

Or maybe all of those reasons are why she might be the perfect wife for him!  Look at Dilip and Sara, or Sanjay and Maanyata.  There was the same age gap, the same sudden decision to marry, and the same “really?  Her?” feeling in comparison with past romances, and it worked out great!  They married someone who was able to challenge them, to keep them young, and who wouldn’t be quite the worshipful never blaming support that just lead them down unhealthy roads.

One of the reports, I think Times of India, quotes an “insider” who doesn’t believe the engagement rumors, because the way they talk isn’t “Respectful”.  The use a lot of abuses and jokes on the phone together.  See, this is the kind of thing that makes me think maybe she could be the best thing in the world for him!  Someone who didn’t grow up worshipping him, someone who has been around the block a few times herself, and someone who went into the relationship with her eyes wide open, not all blinded by a sudden love affair.

  1. It’s more likely that Iulia would be making her Bollywood entry soon and Salman’s PR machinary is dropping these hints.I don’t think Salman is likely to marry any time soon-sick mother or not.Speaking of May-December marriages,I don’t think it’s healthy to marry a younger person just to hang on to your lost youth.(IIRC Dilip had set up a second wife but Saira put paid to that nonsense soon enough.)But the Nargis-Sunil Dutt marriage deserves special mention. It was made for all the right reasons.

    • I do love Nargis-Sunil Dutt. And Saira-Dilip. Although they never talk about that secret second wife! I saw a reference to her somewhere years ago, and then I’ve never heard anything about it since then, so I thought maybe I hallucinated it. Thrilled to have it confirmed by an outside source.

With Salman, I just can’t see a 50 year old woman having the energy for him, you know? Dating him must be like taking care of a 2 year old. Always trying to keep him entertained and out of trouble. Buying him ice cream and taking him to the circus when he is good, whacking him upside the head when he is had. So he would have to date younger, just to find someone who can keep him in check.

  2. As long as she won’t put up with his abuse – all good.
And the blind items and Pandits and every Tom, Dick and Harry have been predicting this wedding for years.

The media hasn’t really gone crazy stalking her though – guess Salman’s orders.

      • I’m quite surprised that media didn’t go all guns blazing on the Rani-Adi thing…I mean, that was a confirmed affair.

        • I think the smartest thing they did there was make sure there were no images. Only like two photos of Aditya Chopra ever, and no photos at all of him and Rani together. Much harder to sell a story without pictures. Not that it is less believable, just less clickbait-able if you are staring at a random photo of Rani and that boring airport shot of Adi.

          • How did they do that?
It’s definitely a ban on the media I guess? I mean, you never catch Jaya Bachchan drinking her bottles of alcohol she’s known to be drinking all night long, or all the old bwood actors’ trysts with younger girls in hotels. Old like – geriatric old and not Salman Khan old hahaha.

          • It almost feels like Adi must be able to break cameras with his mind. Or disappear at will from film. How can he be married to one of the biggest actresses of all time, and running the biggest film studio, and there are NO photos?

But I guess it is kind of circular with him. No photos means no one is really sure what he looks like which makes it that much harder to identify him and get a new photo.

Not sure why we never see photos of the known stars doing things they would rather not be seen doing! There’s got to be a sort of unspoken understanding, that you can put a blind item in the Mumbai Mirror about Salman maybe getting engaged, but if you used real names and tried to get a photo, the Khan family would cut off all contact.

  3. The blind items used to be saucier…and years before that, you had Filmfare and Stardust actually talking about affairs very openly. Nowadays, the PR companies are very powerful, as are the stars.
There’s also more blind worship of stars these days too though – if filmfare prints a damning article about SRK’s affair with PC – that would cause a riot or something. However, they got away with talking about Amitabh and Rekha’s affair back in the day etc.
