Big news! Kareena and Saif just confirmed their pregnancy! Yaaaaay! I guess? I mean, it seems like something they both want, so it is nice that it is happening. Although I will miss Kareena onscreen.
Here is Saif’s statement:
“My wife and I would like to announce that we are expecting our first child in December. We would like to thank our well wishers for their blessings and support and also the press for their discretion and patience.”
Isn’t that nice? And very well-planned, it should give Kareena just enough time to finish all her current responsibilities. Rhea and Ekta Kapoor, who are producing Kareena’s next film, already released a statement congratulating her and saying that they will start filming her bits immediately.
I don’t know why Aishwarya’s pregnancy was such a problem, everyone else seems able to adjust. When Kajol was pregnant with Yug, Shahrukh changed the schedule of Ra.One so Kareena could be available to finish We Are Family super fast so Kajol could go on break. And now the Kapoor sisters are arranging the schedule of Veere di Wedding so Kareena can finish promptly. I don’t know why the Heroine thing was such an issue, either Mahesh Bhadarkar was not willing to adjust at all, or Aishwarya put it way too long to tell him. I kind of suspect the first, since his team also seemed to be the one that was pushing the story.

(And then the movie got terrible reviews, so it was a lucky escape for Aish.)
Couple of other less exciting things. Kabir Khan is taking advantage of the big Salman focus going on this week and made a few announcements about their next movie together, Tubelight. It’s going to be a period piece set during the Sin0-Chinese war. Or, as I think of it, the war that inspired “Aye Mere Watan ke Logon”. Sohail is also supposed to be in it, presumably playing Salman’s brother. And they are supposedly looking for a heroine, who will only come up in the second half of the film and has a “small but impactful” role.

Some early buzz is also coming out about IIFA performances. The media is trying to make a story about Priyanka and Deepika performing separately, instead of together. The story making the rounds is that they pretended to be friends for the Bajirao publicity, but they actually hate each other and are rivals for Hollywood success and so on and so on. Now, see, I don’t believe the “we’re best friends!” story, but I also don’t believe they “we HATE each other!” story. Both of versions of the story are assuming that the personal has to become a factor when women work together. Can’t they just be professionals who work together when it is their job to work together, but are also ambitious for their own opportunities?
Oh, and a teaser video came out of Salman’s performance. Bollywoodhungama has it.
So, will the offspring be a prince or princess?

Yes! But I don’t know which one yet.

All royalty titles, privileges, and payments from the Indian government were abolished under Indira Gandhi’s administration, so even Said’s father was no longer a nawab. It’s only the Bollywood press that refers to Saif as a nawab. So, while the forthcoming baby may be a prince or princess in his/her parents’ eyes (as many babies are), officially s/he will be just another citizen of India.

Thanks! I always wondered about that.

Aishwarya’s pregnancy was a problem because she never informed the director or the producers — they found out through Amitabh’s tweet. They had planned several glamor type of sequences which couldn’t be done with her changing figure, and she demanded script changes to accommodate it — which might have been done if she was uo front with them, but not in a post facto situation. You think the Kapoor sisters only found out from Saif’s announcement? Similarly, Kajol also told Karan in advance, so he could plan the filming. Also the entire film of Heroine was centered on the lead character. There were no “portions” that could have been juggled.

Excellent, I always like it when I can blame Aishwarya for anything. No real reason, she just rubs me the wrong way.

I hope I didn’t come off as just wanting to blame Aishwarya due to prejudice, as that was certainly not my intention. But I do think she mishandled the sutuation, when all the mess could have been so easily avoided.

Oh, not at all! You came off as very neutral. Which was good, because I know I am not neutral when it comes to Aish, so I don’t trust my judgement at all! But I’ll trust what you say entirely. It does fit, with how everyone reacted, and why it was so much of a bigger deal than it usually is.

Hi, I just wanted to say that that was me posting as “Anonymous” in the three posts above. I was replying from my phone and didn’t think about the fact that my information wouldn’t have been saved on there, so sorry for the confusion.
