As always, best to listen to the podcast after having seen the movie, or else having read my SPOILERS review. We don’t exactly give a plot summary, and we jump around a bit. In this case, we also jump over to a lot of other Mani Ratnam films, since Dina hasn’t seen many, and I have seen slightly more, so I was giving her some general Ratnam background.
Oh, and we also take a moment to discuss how many yellow lights we hit on the way home, and the taxi cab that is trying to squeeze past us while I am parked in front of her building. And, of course, say “Hi!” to Grandpa. So you get the full experience of riding the car home with us from the movies.

I finally got the chance to listen to this. There weren’t any spoilers that I haven’t already found out already.
I was going to say that Yuva/Ayutha Ezhuthu had an abusive relationship but then you eventually mentioned it 🙂
Mouna Ragam is not Mani Ratnam’s first movie but I think it is the movie that made him really popular. Hearing you describe the premise of the movie makes it sound really similar to Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi!

It kind of is like Rab Ne! But once they establish the “younger wife, boring older husband, he loves her enough to agree to an empty marriage” premise, it goes in a different direction.
